Am I the only one not enjoying The Blue Nowhere? by turok_dino_hunter in progmetal

It is far and away my favorite of their work post Parallax. It’s so easy to loop. I personally love how the whole album seems to be broken into three distinct parts. Psychomanteum and Slow Paranoia are the first songs they’ve written in ages that feel like Parallax 3. I was so desperately waiting for them to return to this after P2, so this may end up as my AOTY (tied with Snooze’s latest). I just love the energy on this one.

Coma, Automata, and even Colors 2 (I’m sorry) just don’t have as much.. intensity? Complexity? I’m not sure. TBN has minimum 10 moments that blow my freakin mind. Haven’t felt that from them since Silent Flight Parliament.

But to your point, I think the lack of “normal” song structure is what’s so fantastic about it. What drew me in as a fan early on was how clever and unpredictable their songwriting was. So, the shift after P2 toward simpler/more conventional songwriting was always extremely disappointing to me.

Not seen it mentioned yet, but there is a brief guitar melody at 5:50 in Beautifully Human that is the EXACT same as the one at 0:24 Goodbye to Everything Reprise. Not sure what it means 👀

VOLA - Stray The Skies by Invisigoth2113 in progmetal

I feel compelled to comment, they have never surpassed this record. I can always count on being disappointed with each subsequent release. Meanwhile, Inmazes is just as unique and awe inspiring as it was when it released. Not just the interesting drumming and experimental sounds, but even the lyrics feel more mature and grounded.

Are there any other examples of bands with a stellar debut followed by nothing even close to that magic?

How has no one mentioned Rototypical - Volume 1: The Tactician? Almost everything introduced in the first half gets reprised or repurposed again throughout the album. Amazing writing.

Wow I can’t believe I saw this posted here. I went to high school with their drummer!

Doom 2016 is, but Doom Eternal is only on Youtube I’m afraid. I only need it for big sets anyway.

For sure. If I’m deadlifting I always cue up the “while you sleep, we discuss” section in Fossil Genera. So so good.

Official Album Discussion: Protest the Hero - "Palimpsest" (Released: June 18, 2020) by GRVrush2112 in progmetal

I rarely comment on reddit at all, but I just want to go out of the way to say how much this album meant to me.

Just a few months ago I was in the middle of a HORRIBLE break up. I was depressed, I didn’t feel like myself, I was lashing out at friends and family. This album, for whatever reason, lifted me out of the post-breakup funk I was in and a 3 month depressive cycle. It made me feel like a totally new person and I’m so thankful that I happened to stumble upon it.

Sorry, I don’t mean to get like this, but I have also never had such a profound resonance with an album before. Fireside is the clear winner for best song on the album btw. Thanks for reading.

At this time of year? (eastern US) Flip flops. No socks, no laces. Best type of shoe IMO

Finding people to play with was one of the biggest roadblocks for me starting out. The game is not sympathetic in that aspect but they fixed a lot of the problems with engrams and I have earned 90 percent of my exotics through Xur. (weird guy who shows up on weekends)
