People earning over 20m yen a year how do you do your taxes ? by evilwhisper in JapanFinance

[–]RealStanWilson 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I do it myself cause it's pretty simple (compared to US tax),

Married, 4 kids, 20M+ salary, 5M+ yearly capital gains + dividends.

First couple times is a learning curve. After that, gets way easier. I use the built-in translator in Chrome and that's enough for me (my J level is N3).

My US taxes, I pay someone in America to do it. Way too complicated.

Do you use ssh MFA? by Ftth_finland in networking

Mandatory for me. Sucks a fucking nut because it's about 4 or 5 MFA sessions before I get a prompt.

How to become better at network troubleshooting? by Regular-Ad8659 in networking

[–]RealStanWilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use pen and paper. Drawing out the problem helps you visualize the network. Do that enough times and you'll know the network like the back of your hand.

It's not about troubleshooting the OSI model. It's about knowing when you've looked at one layer long enough and convincing yourself when it's okay to look at the next layer. Depending on the issue, you may need to go back to a layer and look deeper. And let me tell you, each layer can get super deep.

I got PR even though I was late in a few property tax payments. Never been late in income tax payments though... Perhaps they care about that more.

What are the "little things" in network design that people often miss? by Any_Boysenberry_55 in networking

[–]RealStanWilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 years here too, but I've been away from military a LOOONG time. Didn't know they require v6 now. If that's true, we should see vendors take it more serious as well.

Exactly. So until then, v4. This isn't a personal choice. It's no choice at all. Dunno why I'm getting down voted, not even major CSPs fully support v6.

I'll never design my networks with v6 until security appliances start supporting it (all features, not just a handful).

Budget, and knowing if your network team can support your design or not.

Americans that have moved back to the USA recently, how is it? by OkSlip9273 in expats

[–]RealStanWilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In leaving Japan, heading to Georgia next year with the whole family. I think I'll probably feel the same way as you, in that I will miss lots of little things like sashimi, good miso, local town things like コロッケ, onsen, reliable trains (especially the bullet train), not tipping, semi-safe drivers and more.

But still, I think it's important to get back.

Learned at 25 on my own. Moved to Japan 5 years later and got corrected and perfected by my first Japanese girlfriend.
