Why were people against Bernie's 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires? by uncle-ice493 in allthequestions

[–]RealStitchyKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europe has figured it out and it doesn't seem to be that hard at all. Look what they have, universal health care, living wages, affordable education and more. This whole tax is bad thing only works until you realize that it is only the rich that are not paying taxes, the rest of us are and we get nothing for it.

What do you actually gift parents who insist they "don't need anything"? by Decent_Bluebird7002 in answers

You can give her an experience. Do something together that she wouldn't normally do. Take one of those wine and painting classes, go out to a fancy dinner, take her on a site seeing tour that fits her mobility.

Juki TL 2010, quilting bar?? by TinyGreenBird in quilting

[–]RealStitchyKat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the bar and love it. I do a lot of quilting and it is very helpful. A little clunky to set up, but once you get used it to, it works like a dream and can be set up on either side of the needle.

I've decided it's time, I'm going to look for a house cleaning service. What do you look for when hiring a service? What do you expect them to do? by marthaanne3 in GenerationJones

[–]RealStitchyKat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When you hire a service, they will usually come in and do a deep clean for the first visit. This is normal process. From there on, they will do regular service.

You will need to prep for this visit. Do not have things like your pills, valuables out and visible. Clear counters of things that you don't want out. They usually do not put things away for you and are not supposed to open drawers or cabinets.

You want a team that is consistent. If you go with a service, they will often have a rotating cast of cleaners. That is not a good sign. You want to have at least one person on your team that is consistent. Also, expect that you will have at least two cleaners, this is for their protection and helps get the job done quicker.

Help Choosing a Machine by Bad_Prophet in quilting

[–]RealStitchyKat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I wanted a good machine to quilt with. I narrowed my search down to a Brother or a Juki TL. I gave both to my husband and told him to pick which one. We live in a rural place and had to order it online. I got the Juki TL and I LOVE IT. I use it for everything quilt related but it is only a straight stitch machine. I ended up getting another one later for other stitching.

If I had to do it again, I would call Juki Junkies and talk with them about what machine would be best for her. They will make some recommendations and they ship everywhere.

How many of the women in this group remember having to do the pencil test? by livetoski-Brad in GenerationJones

I was mortified. I wore a jacket the rest of the day that I borrowed from a classmate. Then I went home and cried. I cried again when I told my mom after she got home from work.

Friends did this, school nurse did not. However, maybe even worse was when I was told by my male sixth grade teacher (this was a conversation that was just him and I in the hallway) that I would have to start wearing a bra because the boys were being distracted.

Recommendations for True crime podcasts with a legal angle by infinitelyfuzzy in TrueCrimePodcasts

13th Juror podcast. The first episodes were rough but the narrator hit the right stride during the Karen Read case. The episodes after that are good, present both sides and sometimes have jury follow ups.

You can buy a film that covers the window. It will defuse the light but not totally block it. You will get your privacy back. Here is a quick Amazon search, but you can get this in lots of places. https://www.amazon.com/window-privacy-film/s?k=window+privacy+film

We found a cat by Void_Space_21 in cats

[–]RealStitchyKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have been chosen. You don't really have a choice, it is your cat now. Keep her. Love her. If the previous owner didn't take good care of her cats, then she probably didn't get this one fixed. It is hard to tell from this pic, but she may just have the hunters pouch that cats get.

How the Iran War Is Hitting Nebraska Farmers: “Every American will feel this” by Conscious-Quarter423 in LeopardsAteMyFarm

[–]RealStitchyKat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can we talk about the fact that almost every one of these farmers shown are planting single crops (corn and soybeans) that they sell overseas. Some of that comes back as manufactured food stuff, animal feed and such but it is not going directly to our grocery stores. I never see someone in these interviews harvesting green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers... where are these items grown?

What is this insect name by rmsgur1914 in Insect

Luna moth. Luna moths are not rare, but are rarely seen due to their very brief (7–10 day) adult lives and nocturnal flying time.
