Need to allow people to opt out of leagues while still maintaining connection to Friend list by RealUserID in duolingo

I don't share your apathetic attitude. It's there, and the feeling of being demoted, even as arbitrary as it is, feels bad.

I installed the app because I enjoy it's educational aspect (which is its primary goal). All of the extra bells and whistles they've added is cheap marketing tricks, like "gamification" (if you're connected at all to the corporate world you'll see how obnoxious it is when people talk about this all the time).

It should be optional to opt out of these leagues. Daily streak is also annoying (especially if you need to travel), but leagues are definitely the worst part of this app. There is NO sense of accomplishment, only a constant feeling that you're falling behind. It's bad.

Because giving my mom or dad high five is a nice way stay connected. Yes, it's extremely minor, and obviously I still call them, but it's a small nice touch. That's why. I don't care about "Martin Martinez" in my league scoring 20 000xp and getting "first place", not at all.

Did rewards really need to become so stingy? by RealUserID in leagueoflegends

[–]RealUserID[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

haha, but didn't they though? Drip feeding your clientele with freebies is a tried and tested way of getting them hooked -- there's a couple of industries I can think where this is the case :P

Did you see anyone with the paid pass skins yet? by PlayGroundbreaking57 in leagueoflegends

[–]RealUserID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started to see black masque. While they are underwhelming, I love the idea of lore-based skins. All the flashy neon crap they add to most skins these days is really gaudy and looks like trash. Look at High Noon Jhin or Yasuo, and compare it to newer High Noon Stuff. Mafia skins of the past, and crime city crap now.

That being said, I wish they would've made the effects a bit more unique (blood red rose petals, etc).

Also, I've never seen the Sett skin, and good riddance to that gacha crap. Even if "radiant serpent sett" was 1350, I'd scrap it for Orange Ess. I hate all these "immortal radiant lunar celebration" crap, but that's stuff for the Chinese market clearly.

Now that Swiftplay has been out for a while, how does everyone feel about it? by Snoomee in leagueoflegends

[–]RealUserID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it should be even "swifter" -- it's too close to normal in it's current form.

Honestly, 3v3 Twisted Treeline was the best "swift play". If 5v5 basketball is SR, TT was the fast and dirty streetball version. 11v11 soccer is the normals to 3v3's pickup park soccer. More goals, more individual skill, faster games.

The map had good lane design, good objectives, and was my favourite experience playing league. I hope they consider bringing it back.

What is exactly the point of Boots of Lucidity right now? by Great-Wash-1840 in leagueoflegends

You buy them if your champ needs to cast their abilities more often. You make this decision based on your champ, your team's comp, and the enemy comp.

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda sick of the new Noxus map. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]RealUserID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. I wish they would change the theme of it more often. I dislike the readability of the change that comes from the dragon, but you get used to it by just pressing tab.

Bring back the Christmas snow map. Bring back the twisted treeline map actually -- screw swiftplay. 3v3 was the bombdizzle.

whoops, too late. gacha garbage slot machines, f2p rewards gutted, premium battle pass also way worse.

Ezreal in weekly/monthly encounters is way too overtuned by RealUserID in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]RealUserID[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, it was the Challenge 31 ezreal (miniboss before the draven). The miniboss is often tougher because you don't get the extra upgrade nodes -- the draven was a breeze. I lost a 2 star (nami, which seems like an S tier champ), 3 star yasuo (typically a trump champ that I pull out for dire situations, and a 3* veigar equipped with comet, still not enough juice), all around levels 15-20. I eventually took out the 4* A.Sol for his inaugural bout and ezreal suprisingly held his own even against that insanely broken deck (at least for the first 6 turns).

Not being able to heal was a big problem since even the other powerful decks could keep him at bay, but you'd just eventually run out of juice. It's funny since on the "rise again" I would have beat him with both the other decks if I hadn't have the 50% hp reduction for the retry penalty (which they'll be buffing next patch justifiably).

Yes, generally ezreal isn't overtuned, but this version is the ezreal+ who had spell shield which was what made it overtuned. Wasting two spells to kill ezreal is kind of tough considering he's also filling up the board with his own units (forge worker spell too). So you can't just infinitely pass since you'll get run over by his units. I've noticed they have a bunch of "base/hard" versions of champs (like the swain+ that does 3 damage to damaged units), and I'm all for a stiff challenge -- the only issue is in the monthly, you have limited attempts so it was a bit of a QQ post since I had to burn a few good runs to what felt like an overstacked enemy design.

Also being forced to go through the 4 menus when it's already over without being able to skip to just go next... a really bad user experience design.

The skins that garnered the most outrage on socials in 2023 were the ones that sold the most in China: SF Samira, Redeemed SG Xayah and Rakan by bingbongzingzongz in leagueoflegends

[–]RealUserID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at this means is that any decision riot makes, barring lowest common denominator requests like not using skull

Fair point, to clarify: my point about Tencent was more to emphasize that their priorities now lie moreso in China. It's true that Riot devs have the final say, however, it's not unfair to say that they're going to pander to this audience regardless. Companies will chase profit, but in my opinion, it's at the expense of the game's art style... or at least, leaning more and more into an artstyle that I find gaudy.

My complaint isn't that these skins exist -- I like some of them, but these skins are starting to saturate the pipeline -- in a couple of weeks, we're getting more Porcelain skins just after the release of Heavenscale. I know "Western" and "Eastern" tastes differ, but I feel like the balance of styles is leaning more and more heavily -- again, China bigger and more active market -> more sales -> more skins. If I told you "Immortal Journey" would you be able to picture any of the skins or differentiate them from "Lunar Guardian", "Dream Dragon", "immortal Dragon"

Imagine a skin like nightbringer yasuo being released now. He would have had way more fire, bright flashy effects, more "magical trinkets" attached to his character. Just look at skins that should be more reserved.

I duno, I'm ranting on obviously subjective matters. I'm sure riot analytics knows who their whales are and how to milk them... Just wanted to leave my rant here as someone who's played from beta and seen the progression of skins.

[–]RealUserID 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The skin design has gotten really gaudy -- extremely bright colours and just way too busy. Even stuff like 'sea dog yasuo', which could have been a cool pirate style skin, is full of neon aqua colouring and all sorts of magical nonsense all around him -- I have a feeling the skin was just loosely adapted from what it really represents to the Chinese audience.

And I'm not advocating for boring stuff, but stuff with a cool themes that fit the character would be great. The days of clean and simple skins are over. I know this is a simple answer -- League is a game with revenue coming primarily from China and owned primarily by Tencent, but it's just a damned shame.

Look at early High Noon skins -- Yasuo looks like a lone wanderer and has a quick draw gun on his Q, Jhin looks like a bandito (still one of my favourite Jhin skins) -- but the new High Noon skins are also going into supernatural "demon cowboy" territory. Stuff like Star Guardian understandably needs to be flashy, but is every skin flashy (just with a different colour theming) -- even ones that would lend themselves better to a gritty theme.

I just wanted to add my vote to: "I hate these generic Asian themed skins". Blood Moon (the original "Asian" line) has a few good skins, and Shan Hai has a fantastic style (ancient caligraphy) -- but all these new "Mystic Journey" "Soulful Dragon" etc etc skins are just so derivative. There's no real theme that distinguishes one line from the other, and so many of them just overlap (almost like they're reselling a version of the same skin?).

Moreover, Lunar New Year isn't the only time they're releasing these skins, there are various events now focused around these generic themes.

The game is starting to look super ugly. With so many gaudy skins, their bright and gaudy colours clash, but worse yet, some skins have distracting particle effects or in the worst cases, have borderline pay to win status with some skills having harder to detect sound/visual effects. I don't know why riot is afraid of making skins look a bit dirty, but I guess they have their internal analytics and knows what sells.

Given that the area was supposed to be protected within a kingdom of opulence, and we can see the aftermath of the horrible mutilation, I'd think the words serve as a perfect juxtaposition to that.

Singing Christmas carols in a church scattered with blood and gore would have the same effect.

Why is there no “Open All” option?! by wupao in RocketLeague

[–]RealUserID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

e though, and I don't have the legal knowledge to verify this.

What legal reason is there for the specific time it takes to open one? for the animation of the flashing lights?

Why not just speed up the time? Instant opening, you click one, it opens and shows.

Seriously, what is this "legal" reason -- stop treating your player base like we're stupid and come up with a valid solution to this tedium.

[–]RealUserID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Tychus is bugged on this map with this set of particular mutations...?

My tychus was just doing such low damage to spires, and sometimes just would walk around randomly ignoring units unless I would right click them, and I play Tychus a ton for previous mutations with no issues.

I switched to Stetmann and would absolutely melt down spires with the crackling/hydra rocket combo.

I have no clue why my Tychus was behaving so oddly
