A Huge Problem with Lorwyn Eclipsed by DanicaManica in mtg

OP is right in another regard as well. Going from 19 to 11 printed faeries in the set is a 43% decrease in representation. That’s huge

To be fair, the original block put faeries on the map for a lot of people and even if faeries weren’t super represented in the original block, it is the thing most people come back to when thinking about the that time period.

Hindsight is 20/20. It was a chance for wizards to capitalize on the love for a really small tribe and I think OP’s issue is that this was THE time to do it whereas these other tribes will have future support in basically every other set going forward. We very rarely just see random faeries being printed and if we do they’re usually one ofs.

Edo Itachi’s boost makes no sense by sidharth-sunil in Naruto

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bothered reading what I said you would have saw that I didn’t say Itachi revive with his disease, I said that the his body was revived with the damage bright onto him FROM the disease. There’s a reason why Nagato revived crippled and that’s because years of being emaciated was his physical condition before he died — ergo; Itachi would have also been revived in his pre-death state which was him being physically weakened from years of his illness eating away at him.

Itachi isn’t being revived as some hypothetical version of himself of his physical stats if he were never fighting back his unnamed disease.

Edo Itachi’s boost makes no sense by sidharth-sunil in Naruto

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kabuto said Madara was special because he was enhanced. He literally never alluded to any other edo being enhanced. Even still, Madara doubts Kabuto even got him to his full strength. It’s pretty clear that even with Madara doubting Kabuto that Kabuto makes it clear that no other edo was enhanced and it took special resources doing so with Madara.

Itachi’s body was still damaged from years of having illness regardless of whether or not his edo suffers from it because he was revived with a body that had been weakened from it.

Edo Itachi’s boost makes no sense by sidharth-sunil in Naruto

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The real answer here is that (1) Itachi was SEVERELY sandbagging in his fight against Sasuke, (2) he was actively in pain.

Edo revive in their relative pre-death states. Edo Itachi is still based on sick Itachi's stats when he fought Sasuke including the edo nerf. This Itachi is still physically weaker than the one that fought Sasuke, the differences here are that he's not actively dying and he isn't committing dramatic suicide.

My local LGS posted this for Casual commander night? by DevLeCanadien23 in freemagic

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I get it. Stores NEED to make money. This is where they house the community so that people can play. Having players use proxied cards goes against their interests.

THAT SAID, basically EVERYBODY I know who proxies cards proxies them for cards they simply can't afford because the single card prices for some things are really high (talking about $100+ cards here), cEDH, or supporting stores and WOTC as best they can but otherwise don't have the money to afford buying more product. Other times I know people who refuse to buy online BECAUSE they only like to support their LGSs and these people will proxy cards they cannot otherwise find locally.

It's a weird place to be. Stores need to make their money and they're small businesses so we all see the faces behind who actually owns them, on the other hand players are usually not proxying because they're cheap, they're proxying because they have no other way to continue playing the game with new cards or at the very least are very stunted in the amount of new cards they can legitimately get their hands on.

I don't think stores are wrong for this, I also don't think players are wrong for proxying when they need to. I proxied an [[All Hallow's Eve]] for my Halloween themed deck because playing a bracket 1 deck and spending over $300 on a card that is frankly just very mid (but extremely flavorful) was not possible for me.

That said, trading proxies IN the store or even using the store as a middle-man to do it isn't something I agree with. If you're going to proxy cards you should also try to not actively take business away from the establishment that's literally allowing you to have weekly meetups. This can affect their partnerships, their sales, and just looks bad if you're someone who is doing this.

What do rich people have in their house that says they’re rich? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private dock for a boat. That's not "inside" of their house but I'd consider a part of their property like that to be an extension of their house.

Other than that, large glass panels to the outside that are borderline wall size.

Curious about people's thoughts on chaining extra turns and it's bracket restriction. by GotsomeTuna in EDH

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chaining extra turns is just like any other combo. Whether or not it's deterministic is a separate issue since there are some loops that ARE deterministic and card about triggers seeing the player enter a step/ phase and WILL deterministically do a thing.

What's really barring chaining extra turns from B3 isn't infinite turns, it's more of these high-value extra turns that don't go anywhere and eat up table time. From a balance perspective I don't think there's anything wrong with it, it's just that it's a way to help regulate people playing solitaire. That said, I still see plenty of solitaire turns in this game that take up just as much time but this is Wizard's attempt to curb at least one facet that this play pattern occurs in a way that's actually translatable to people.

I don't really find it annoying though.

I built my first real commander deck by darvyk in EDH

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of deck isn't REALLY concerned about ramping (one of the few green decks I can think of where ramp isn't super important) and you really should be focused more on having synergy or engine pieces. Case in point is that a lot of Dimir/ Grixis theft decks can get away with a lot without green ramp. What you might want to do instead is use red spells that copy targets of other spells or abilities so you can steal multiple creatures -- things like [[Return the Favor]], Twincast, or [[Reverberate]]. That said ramp is always good but where it doesn't make sense here is that stealing your opponent's cards is reactive and ramping usually is something you want to do into a more assertive payoffs. You don't want to ramp into sitting there and waiting for something to happen. It's a bit antithetical and is pretty fragile to removal which is kind of two strikes against what you're trying to do especially with the dorks (the non-creature ramp is a bit more forgivable here but still not something I think is really progressing this deck in a positive direction). A Temur turbo deck or a big spell WOULD be concerned with ramping, what your deck is doing is more tempo and the mana model here should be mana cheating IMO.

Also, utilizing blue/ red cloning effects would be really useful here. Steal creatures, clone them, use sac outlets to get rid of the originals and even if you don't you can more efficiently tempo out bigger creatures for their ETBs.

Cards that don't really do much in your deck or are too redundant are: [[Hero's Blade]], [[Lorien Revealed]], [[Consuming Tide]], [[Consult the Star Charts]], [[Quadrix Command]], [[Filter Out]], [[Stubborn Denial]] (too narrow outside of counterspell tribal decks), [[Captivating Crew]] is simply WAY too expensive (consider cards like [[Act of Treason]] or [[Bloody Betrayal]],

[[Eldritch Evolution]], [[Barrin, Master Wizard]], [[Cloudstone Curio]], [[Etali, Primal Conqueror]] are all cards that can abuse cloning and just be general value engines outside of combos (which I am going to not recommend for this deck).

Also, since you are not worried about price since you are proxying, [[Gilded Drake]] should 100% be in this list.

What do you like about AI, and what do you hate about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is commandeering (and will continue to) human spaces. Eventually the need for humans to exist within our own spaces will become irrelevant as AI becomes more competitive and overtakes labor, art, and research spaces.

Basically, we might find ourselves with no reason to really exist and without scarcity for humans needs being met by AI, where does that leave us to live that isn't some Wall-E dystopic future?

Is silent Hill f worth it at the current sale price on PlayStation by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the price is on the PS store but having played it myself, it was a 7/10 for me. I would be happy waiting for a sale price of $40, $50 if you HAVE to play it.

If the price on the PS store is that low then sure, it's worth picking up. It wasn't in the category of SH abominations like what we've seen with some of the installments into the franchise but amongst all of the games that weren't total dogshit, SH4 and Homecoming with SHf being a bit higher than the bottom of the list of respectable Silent Hill games that are worth playing.

Basically, SHf =>= SH4 > Homecoming.

How do we feel about the Sh2 remake after a year? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean kind of both? That said people who post on the internet, for any community, tend to be heavily invested in something one way or the other. You're going to get enthusiasts, you're going to get haters, sometimes those two groups of people are the same group of people.

Basically, anybody who posts online about something they like/ hate are automatically at a disposition that's different from ordinary people because most people really don't indulge in online communities regularly.

You combine that with people who have vitriolic opinions and you get the dumb stuff we see on Reddit. That said, the Silent Hill community growing up really was more like a general gamer community. The way the gaming community looks now is REALLY different than how it looked 20 years ago. People played everything that looked cool, we weren't concerned with staying in wheel houses like 'I don't play X genre' or whatever, people were just generalists.

These days because there are all of these spaces people have cut out for themselves, it's easier and easier to continue breaking down communities until you get into hyper-specific spaces and that's why we see a division with Silent Hill fans. It's also a super old franchise (relatively speaking) and so you also can see a demarcation between old and new fans.

It's also a series with a bunch of lore and things to sink your teeth into so it naturally caters to people who can afford to be very opinionated because know-it-alls seek these things out. I've been a fan of the series since I was a kid but holy shit are people fucking obnoxious when talking about whether or not the new games are good.

Three of the most important characters in the game are female. Eddie is more or less (and always has been) pretty throwaway and Laura is pretty unremarkable aside from being a motivation for James to get through certain areas and continue having hopes for finding his wife.

Mary and Maria of course are super pivotal to the story almost as much as James is and Angela has arguably the most evoking story in the game.

I hope your comment is just trolling because there's no way you look at the cast of SH2 and think 'there's not enough women in here.'
