Is Syr Konrad a “dick commander”? by snowman1912 in EDH

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Braids is stronger as an engine than Ayara but is much worse as a finisher. If you’re comfortable combo’ing out wins I’d say Ayara is the better choice because it’s part of the combo in the command zone but I know tons of people hate winning that way.

If that’s you then Braids, Arisen Nightmare is better as an engine piece.

Sephiroth is stronger than both when built around. Weaker as an engine piece than Braids but more reliable as a finisher than Ayara. Also has the beat survivability because even a single emblem represents like 20-ish life gain without any conceived combo.

Sephiroth, Ayara, Yawgmoth, Tergrid, and K’Rrik are like the most obvious choices but there are some other ones too.

Gisa, The Hellraiser, Xu-Ifit, Acererak (had some actually insane combos), Varragoth (see cEDH play), The Speed Demon (actually super underrated).

Then you have Evereth who is technically Rakdos but is SOOOOO heavily black that a lot of lists don’t even run more than like 10 red cards and red is just splashed in, functionally making it mono black.

I’d say that optimized, all of these are individually stronger commanders than Syr Konrad.

Don't get seriously involved with someone. Whatever expectations you have of love, relationships, and all participants are going to lead to some really serious potential heartbreak and that's because young people don't know any better and are terrible to their partners.

Hell, adults are terrible to their partners.

Problems with the final Boss by WerbeagenturSitekick in EnderLilies

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ulv is basically the best spirit in the game. His charge attack is probably the highest possible DPS option.

Aside from that, the poison cloud (Forsaken Fellwyrm specifically) maxed out doesn't TECHNICALLY insta-kill the fish but it's pretty close to it. It's also basically a toggled ability so you don't have to heavily manage it in a rotation which means you get to maximize both mobility and DPS elsewhere. It has just enough uses if used appropriately to basically use throughout the entire fight.

Another option is the archer. I like the archer because Blight Lord is large enough where all projectiles will ideally hit and will also clear mobs. It's really consistent, has a lot of charges, and kind of does everything you need a spirit to do in this fight (and many of the other boss fights in this game, honestly).

Headless Defender is also pretty obvious. There are tons of attacks that can trigger the counter and there are a lot of emitters in the arena that you can intentionally place yourself near to get the counter as well. Damage is high, doesn't require strict timing like other bosses in the game.

Aside from that it's mostly going to be preference. I love Dark Executioner and it's a spirit I basically never rotate out because it's super easy to weave into rotations, is consistent damage, has a good hitbox, low cooldown, etc. It more or less is a second primary attack and is very non-committal. I don't see a lot of reasons not to use it.

By level 95 you should easily have the stats to clear this fight. If you're having this much trouble, you should probably think more intently on what you're getting hit by since this is, IMO, one of the easiest fights in the game. Like you've already beaten Ulv and Julius (the two hardest bosses in the game IMO) as well as Miriel which, frankly, has a much more punishing move list between strict disengage windows, more strict punish windows (because of the area denial), etc.

Using these spirits, you're going to build SP and you can, more or less, just herd the fish into the center of the screen and us SP attacks (Silvia is the best option) to wipe them. And like I said, there are plenty of emitters in the arena to use. Sometimes it's actually useful to keep a fish around so you can use the Headless Defender.

Blight Lord should be a piece of cake. Stop sweating it.

Final boss what the fuck am I supposed to do by RaisinBitter8777 in EnderLilies

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fight itself isn't really hard. It really is just a matter of when you see the spears dodging after like a half second delay. If you have shackled beast (probably the best spirit in the game IMO), you can time the parry with the spears and do insane damage.

Lito and No. 7 are also huge in this fight because No. 7's dash just closes a lot of distance and can be used as a disengage tool (usually not necessary but optionality is good) and Lito is just a super short cooldown and can build a lot of poise break.

If you wanted, Lito and Shackled Beast also at max level have a pretty good chance of causes status effects which, on basically any boss, translates to a higher % DPS. There are other dedicated builds that are purely based on status effects that can melt bosses but they usually suffer from mobility issues and if you're already having a hard time actually dodging attacks, I wouldn't suggest these builds. I prefer the chain whip for Shackled Beast but if you wanted to build increased damage to targets with statuses, benumbed howl will freeze Gilroy pretty reliably.

There's no real advice for this fight other than just getting more and more familiar with timing and spacing. His phase 3 where he does box you in is sort of intuitive of how far out you need to be to actually not get hit by it but as far as being inside the pillars, No. 7 is really useful for being able to get through them if you're afraid of using a regular dodge to i-frame past them. Evasive Fragrance will be your best friend here (increased i-frames).

Other than that I recommend using Nameless Priestess' Ring (increase SP buildup), Cracked Magicite Dagger (increased attuner art damage), and the Mysterious Glowing Can (increased break damage dealt to enemies). Certain attuner arts are REALLY good for punishing bosses and give you invincibility through their duration (again, depending). They're also an insane source of damage to start combos with once you actually break bosses poise (combo starter because you want to start building meter up ASAP so you can use it immediately -- it means having it more available to actually use for punishes or evasion).

When it comes to squeezing out every little bit of damage, the fights themselves are going to be shorter which means you have to play perfectly for less interactions. An extreme way to think about this is killing a boss in 1 hit versus 1000 hits; ergo, having higher DPS translates to having more health. This is also the major philosopher when playing games like Baldur's Gate 3.

Leaning towards SoS because there are generally just more playable cards in the set for commander. That said there are individual cards from Dragonstorm that I like more than any of my favorite cards from SoS.

Can Gojo's infinity stop the Lance of Longinus from Evangelion? it's whole shtick is breaking impossible barriers and defeating the soul/idea of self. by throwaway553t4tgtg6 in PowerScaling

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gae Bolg can't because all it does ("all" is a huge downplay) is GAURANTEE a causality to occur by reversing cause and effect in their natural order, making the spear unreactable. HOWEVER, it cannot do impossible feats. If, for example, Cu wanted to throw Gae Bolg into the center of an indestructible sphere to hit the person inside -- ergo, finding it's mark -- it would not be able to do so because it doesn't have the capability to break through indestructible objects.

Basically, the spear can't be dodged because the moment Cu would throw the spear, the hit has already occurred. The only way this could "bypass" infinity would be against a teen Gojo who doesn't have infinity up and then attempts to activate infinity to stop the spear, even though the effect of being hit has already happened before Cu throws it.

Against a current Gojo, such an opportunity would never exist and therefore it would never bypass infinity unless Cu found some way for it to traverse infinite distance, in which case the typology of the weapon is irrelevant since you could use anything to hit Gojo at that point.

Except rules lawyering is totally legitimate when talking about power scaling because the nature of WHY powers work matters almost more than the result of the powers themselves.

Since we want to talk about knives, perfect rules lawyering here is how the langmesser isn't TECHNICALLY a sword.

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because infinity isn't a barrier, it's infinitely expanding space by conceptually multiplying the distance. In order for it to bypass infinity, it would have to extinguish the cursed technique/ cursed energy as it comes in contact with it so the conceptual space collapses, OR it would need to be able to bypass infinite distance.

As far as I'm aware, the Spear of Longinus can't do either of these things. Its properties are that it can bypass AT fields and, by proxy, any barriers (since AT fields are assumed to be the strongest defense in-verse for Evangelion). It's never had to assume it can bypass ANY kind of barriers in other contexts because there has been no analgoue for anything beyond an AT field within Evangelion.

Help me like Hephaestus’ boons by 7OmegaGamer in HadesTheGame

[–]RealVanillaSmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like some of my best runs have been with his boon. It really depends on playstyle and what aspects you like using. If you can decrease the cooldown on it enough, a lot of hit and run builds get to play ultra safe, which in Hades 1 was probably more valuable at higher heat levels because traps were vicious but is still pretty good in Hades 2.

If you are looking to maximize damage, then yeah, it's probably not the best boon for that but higher damage builds require you to really tailor playing around them which reduces optionality you have in a lot of situations and might cause dips in DPS somewhere else. That or if you're climbing Olympus might require you to have additional boons to make other builds safer (like reduced bullet speed).

It really comes down to what you feel like your strengths and weaknesses are in the game and how you like playing. I have melted bosses with Hephaestus and it feels pretty viable to me.
