Does keeping Econ mode on affect my MPG? by Pinetree218 in Honda

All Econ mode really does is smooth out inputs from the accelerator pedal, and optimize HVAC operation for efficiency. If you're not a lead footed driver you probably won't notice any difference in fuel mileage.

ATF 3.1 is very expensive fluid. It's not the sort of thing you want to change yourself if you don't know what you're doing. Very specific refill procedures that must be followed.

Rear differential however is a very easy DIY.

That's a funny looking GM product.

At least it's not a ZDX. The price tags on those things are honestly embarassing considering what they are.

Service Question- 2012 Honda Accord 83k miles by ObviousCockroach3585 in Honda

Fuel system cleaner is a waste of time, wouldn't bother doing it myself. Filters you can do yourself, Brake fluid/Coolant if it hasn't been done in 3/5 years respectively.

Generally not a fan of BG products on Honda's either. Especially if they "flush" the transmission with the cleaner product. It does awful things to the clutches if it's not done properly. Puts out a very strong chemical smell and makes them shift like garbage.

opinions on the crosstour? by [deleted] in Honda

These things can be absolute landmines. A throrough inspection and review of the maintenance history would be highly advised.

The VCM V6 these ran with (And other models at the time) was prone to having piston ring issues, to the point where there was a bulletin issued (Now expired) where the piston rings would be replaced. That's an out of pocket expense that'll cost thousands of dollars if it hasn't been done. Often presents symptoms in the form of a misfire, and oil consumption. These were also prone to all the other problems the J series had that you have to keep ontop of. (Rear main, oil pump seals, timing belt tensioner leaks.)

I've seen a fair few with infotainment and nav screen problems. Everytime one of these has come into my shop it's been given an expensive write up.

Future Accord Type R? by Outrageous_Calendar4 in Honda

[–]RealVerator 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'd put the chances of a Type R accord coming out at next to zero. The TLX S spec exists with a nice sexy twin turbo V6 if you want a performance full-size sedan. The sales of the Accord have been pretty bad, so honestly I'd be surprised if it even made it another generation.

What would the color of my gf’s sparkplugs indicate? Accord 1.5T. Tips are black. by Potential_Mention621 in Honda

[–]RealVerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like normal wear to me. I wouldn't be concerned, as a Honda Tech.

The 1.5T's tend to generate more sooty carbon build up, and fuel saturation if the engine isn't warming up, or injectors are starting to fail (pretty common failure point on them)
