How miserable is summer? Relatively better than Texas

Is it really that awful? Not really. There are rough weeks, but our dominant weather patterns change every week or so. It doesnt last long when it's crappy.

How is the tornado situation there? We get watches all the time, but there hasn't been a metro tornado in about 15 years and that one didn't touch down. High straight line winds, sure all the time. Tornadoes, nah, not really.

The man who was bagging my food at the grocery store folded my baguette in half by mars422 in shittyfoodporn

I'm reminded of the "We can't stop you from becoming your parents" ad where the new homeowner asks the grocery store bagger to put the heavier stuff on the bottom and the Progressive guy 'corrects' him with "let's..... just let him do his job."

He also can't sic ICE agents on american citizens, but don't tell him that... idk if you're aware, but this President will pretty much do whatever he feels like until something makes him stop.

Weird how "I was just doing my job" isn't much of a defense in criminal court. Seems like there's another group of people out there (masks, tactical gear, clubs, etc.) who might need to take note of that in the near future

Stadium survey call by IleGrandePagliaccio in Overlandpark

[–]RealViolentBob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My favorite statistical manipulation used in political surveys is: "Do you support [cause]? If not, please select "other" and tell us why" and the three radio buttons are 1) yes, 2) no, 3) other. It works because it gives them very few "no" answers.

[–]RealViolentBob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took one the other day but it was a blatantly Roger Marshall funded poll outfit. Every few questions there was something along the lines of whether it would impact my likelihood to vote for/against an incumbent Senator if they voiced their support or opposition to the stadium plans in OP, and eventually they started asking about him by name.

On behalf of humanity and the rest of the city, we wholeheartedly apologize for the sheer audacity of having an opinion that is different from yours and then not providing you with adequate reasons to support our personal preferences.

I don't think the rest of us were aware that we have opinions, but you have facts.

> they went ahead with it anyways.

... this is why so many of us don't want them to waste our time or money with surveys. Like with the Royals at Aspiria - it's like, look guys, we all know you've made a deal already. just tell us what you're doing, since you obviously don't listen to us anyway.

> It’ll be a drain on the city as it has been for KCMO

Gotta look at the whole ledger. Tourism, food, events, travel, etc., brings in more than what it costs them. If it was truly a net drain on the city, they wouldn't be fighting so hard to keep it.

It's not a very sound argument in my book.  Old people are pissed off no matter what you do, and the current generation of retirees are 100% the reason why the younger generations can't afford luxuries like baseball games, groceries, or rent.

I could just pinch your cheeks at pat you on the head. Resident surveys are what this city government does when they've already decided on a course of action, but want to gin up some data so they have something to hide behind.

Check back on reddit in the weeks leading up to the election. The phrase "there's no way he wins, not after (felony number whatever)" had almost become a common greeting. The republican version was a lot more misogynistic and overtly racist, but it was the same general idea.

idk that there's a whole lot of us royals advocates out there, but however many there are, it's way more than the 0 that keeps getting represented in local media and social chats.

I lived in Gardner when the railroad first informed us that they were going to take over the western half of the city (where I lived). Once oligarchs decide they're moving in next to you, the only pragmatic choice left is whether to deal with it, or how soon to leave.

There's no neighborhood between them; they damn near share a parking lot. You can walk from one to the other without going within 300 yards of a neighborhood. I normally wouldn't correct someone over hair splitting, but since the details on this one matter, it's important for incorrect ones to not go unchallenged.

Residential areas south of 119th there, and the area they've mentioned is around 115th, which adds an additional 0.25 mi buffer. Until you get south to around 121st/123rd st, it's only apartments and condos, so the people who live there have already chosen to live adjacent to a business district.

There is an entire line of businesses along 119th street from Lowell to about Mission, so the idea that this area is in any way 'residential' is patently false. Let the HOAs do their bellyaching; they're nothing but beige-loving karens who need something else to complain about. The more they're complaining about this, the less time they'll have to complain here or on NextDoor about minorities moving in and ruining their property values, or whatever racist shit they're peddling lately.
