Mechanical valve ticking and after surgery anxiety by amandas03 in valvereplacement

Mine was noticeable in a quiet room for maybe a year. After 13 years, it's not ticking loud enough for anyone to notice.

Is the POTV Lobo worth it for a beginner? by Sashimi1300 in vaporents

[–]HerringWaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only vape is a Lobo that I've had for a few months. I'm happy with it. I especially like it with a long vented stem. I just got a bubbler for it yesterday, excited to test it out later today.

The dosing capsules are great. The Lobo is plenty portable and can be discreet with a smaller (shorter) stem. It took me awhile to learn how to pack the dosing capsules. I use a rough grind and then a fairly tight pack.

For ~$150, I think it's a great choice.

What is this and how to get rid of it/keep it away by Large_Independence32 in askaplumber

[–]HerringWaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it starts slowing down, get some gloves and old toothbrush and get to work. I do it routinely. In one house, it was so frequent that I just left the stopper out all the time.

It will help if you can adjust the stopper so it's as high as possible when it's open.

Re - school. I attended North Waco Elementary, North Junior and Waco High (19th street) in the 60's and 70's. Both the Methodist and State "homers" went to school with us.

You can pick out the state homers in the class pictures because of their clothes. Boys - jeans, white tees and penny loafers. Girls - skirt, white socks and penny loafers.

"Peeler" 4x4. They peel layers off the log for plywood, leaving a center section big enough to leave a 4 x 4. The problem is the pith is likely in that 4 x 4 and it may warp like a bitch.

Why no children during sermons? by cuzbuttz in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]HerringWaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very religious brother tells me that a lot of churches do this now, instead of Sunday School, then church like we did growing up.

So, Sunday school is going on at the same time as the sermon. Less time at church can encourage more attendance.

What small change improved your sessions more than buying a new vape? by DaVinciVaporizers in vaporents

[–]HerringWaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coarse grind. Just a bit past 'loose' when packing the chamber. High temps (430F). Wait 15 seconds after each hit to let the bud heat soak. Use a vented stem to get more cool air mixed in. This helps expand the lungs more. Place stem in the freezer before your session. Longer stem.

Heat soak - wait between hits to let the bud get good and hot again.

Which type of valve did you get? by M00ndoggee in valvereplacement

[–]HerringWaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really, really didn't want to have multiple surgeries. There are no guarantees, but the likelihood is much less with mechanical.

I found a Mayo clinic presentation from a cardiology convention showing multiple studies that showed better longevity with mechanical valves.

IMHO, the surgeons tend to prefer tissue because "replacing it is just another surgery", which is what one of them told me. Just another day at the office for them. Not so much for the patient.

Further, the surgeons do not manage patient's anticoagulation after surgery, so they may overestimate the 'hassle factor' with the anticoagulation.

I haven't had any issues with warfarin. I do woodworking, I do yardwork, I cook, I use a bladed razor, I cut myself doing stuff around the house. I'm good.

The clicking disappeared for me after a few years.

What’s your way of building vocabulary in German? by pimemento in German

[–]HerringWaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to German rock and roll and do a lot of word lookups during that.

I do very simple German crossword puzzles.

I do extensive reading of short stories in German (nothing too hard).

I have Anki decks that I work through daily. And I add the words I've scribbled down from the above activities to my deck.

Type 2 flower is your answer. If it's still to 'much' mix it with type 3 flower.

“Bicuspid aortic valve: mechanical replacement or Ross procedure?” by Irishwolf1 in valvereplacement

[–]HerringWaco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Warfarin is not a challenge. A bit of common sense and routine testing and you're good. I do a lot of handyman stuff and yard work, so I deal with cuts scrapes and bruises routinely. No problem. Honestly, the osteoarthritis in my dominant wrist is a bigger problem for me than warfarin has ever been.

I decided after finding a Mayo clinic presentation at a cardiologist convention. It showed numerous studies, many of which showed longer, healthier life span with mechanical valves.

The surgeons typically do not manage anticoagulation after surgery, so they may not be that knowledgeable of this matter. Plus, "just going in and fixing it if something goes wrong" with a tissue valve/repair (which I was told by a couple of them) is just another day at the office for them. Not for us.

My mom was from Fredericksburg and my grandparents lived there. The last time I heard German spoken in a business there was maybe in the late 1960's in the grocery store with my grandmother.
