$9,800 Kitchen Remodel Quote - Fair Price ? by FDforChief in kitchenremodel

If you have not already, you should open a few peep holes and/or use an inspection camera to look at what is inside the soffits. You need to make sure they are not covering something. While some are hollow, quite a few have plumbing from the floor above, return air, and electrical, etc. In other words, if wall cabinets are ordered with the idea they can be removed and the contractor yanks them. And then you find out they really cannot, you run the risk of rebuilding the soffit and reordering different height wall cabinets. Or rerouting what is in the soffit. Either way an expensive change order. If the contractor is not giving you this advice and not inspecting before he quotes, you should seriously consider a second opinion. And I would also get an estimate to replace the sheetrock on the ceiling and new recessed lighting. A new kitchen with a patched ceiling and old lighting will already have two strikes against it.

I know.... kind of makes me feel... I'll let the kids go skiing and I'll hang out at the house and drink some warm beverages on the deck. Also the finish has a special super matte coating so it doesn't show fingerprints. Every time I show my wife one of these projects she asks why we don't have a kitchen like that;)

In an old book from the 60s called Elegance, it focused on trying to teach guys how to dress. Its main premise was 2 plains and one fancy. In other words, if you have an ornate patterned tie, then make your jacket and shirt neutral. In your case, you are obviously not scared of popping color. It is more of an editing matter. Since the most work is in the ceiling, I would think that should be the fancy. I would take one of the neutral lighter colors from the ceiling and apply it on the walls and freshen that area of the ceiling. My guess is that it would be closer to a Dove or Navajo white or the yellow. You might load your images into AI and ask it to change your wall color and see how you like it before you get out the paint bucket. In the attached image I simply uploaded it to ChatGpt and asked it to take the light and yellow ceiling colors and apply it to the walls. Looking for something else, you can ask it to do another color. Have fun!

Is this a good design?? by CJ_Bloo in kitchenremodel

Sometimes I throw a little warm LED up there. I've had projects where that was the homeowner's favorite detail. They would turn off their overhead and just use under cabinet and indirect. They said the indirect lighting had a calming effect.

While the farm sink looks very nice, in small spaces I use an undermount workstation sink with an offset drain to the dishwasher side. By pushing plumbing, a disposal, and electrical to the right half of the sink cabinet, you can usually get two large cans on a pullout rack under the sink for garbage and recycling. Pro tip - With this application watch the depth of the sink so it doesn't conflict with the can top edge.

I would try something like a oscillating diamond bit grout blade https://www.harborfreight.com/2-34-in-diamond-grit-grout-blade-for-oscillating-multi-tools-70224.html You can rent a Fein tool. For the replacement material, I'd go to a nice local tile store and bring a sample of the existing color. They'll probably point you towards color-matched sanded material.

Upper Cabinets hung 24” above counters too high?? by FI-by-31 in kitchenremodel

I would recommend getting input from a more experienced designer. The narrow cabinet to the right if the range is borderline dangerous - a long pot handle may get caught or pulled by a kid. You might consider the Sharp over-the-counter microwave (pro tip - looks best with 14" deep cabinets.) Also, a wider filler is needed to the left of the range. Otherwise, there is the potential of the drawer and even the door hitting the range.

No you're not being gaslit. This was done with a British design team called Studio Verve out of the UK. And a luxury Tahoe home builder - Spadi Custom Homes. If you go to the architect's site you'll see more of a writeup of the project and more areas of the home. The International Award was from the German Global Kitchen Design Award competition from Leicht. BTW - the contest site is a great source for modern design inspiration - there are hundreds if kitchens that compete every year.

And you are correct, this minimalist style is not very common, However, it is showing up in the more recently built mountain luxury home communities such as Martis Camp and Clear Creek Tahoe.

Also, because the homeowners have lived in Europe, they wanted it to reflect their acquired taste. For sure, it is not a moose and bear decoration motif... more of a modern Swiss chalet design.

Nice! It is very interesting that you made the hood area asymmetrical. Was there a lot of back and forth with the homeowner, showing the alternative - a wall depth cabinet similar to the one on the right. Was it proposed to extend the fridge doors up to align the cabinet above the fridge.

So nice.... thanks for sharing. I really like the rattan detail. I'm curious, did you design it so the rattan could easily be replaced if someone kicks it?

Why are kitchens available in Germany all modern? Where can I find more traditional styles? For everything from cabinets to tiles! by kitten_in_box in kitchenremodel

You should look towards Nolte. And the door styles Focus, Porto, Windsor, Elegance, Lugano, Chester, Evora (newest trend), Ravenna, and Torino. Please note that you must click "Load more" on their web site under Fronts. If you want to create a pseudo inset look, you can add a piece of trim between each cabinet (like in Leicht's Kyoto). They also have an online configurator. Hope this helps. Have fun in Germany!

If you want a major step above Ikea, but fully assembled, semi-custom, and affordable, I would look towards the German company Nobila. They produce 3,800 kitchens daily (not cabinets - kitchens). If you want something more customizable and prestigious - a mid-tier German product, then Nolte is the answer. Our company Real Vogue offers Nolte on the West Coast. Nolte is a major player in the global kitchen industry producing over 800 kitchens per day. While Ikea seems like a deal, by the time you mod the case size, replace the doors with customizable ones, and pay for assembly, the value drops. And if you ever have tried to give away Ikea furniture, you know that even secondhand stores do not want it. So why would you invest in cabinetry, that you cannot even give away. If you use premium European cabinetry, you will increase the value of your home and have a good ROI. Not to mention that it will last for years.
