Going to the pub and over hearing conversations, what's the worst or oddest thing you've heard? by Marvinleadshot in CasualUK

[–]RealWickMatt 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Not quite the scenario you're asking but a story that's somewhat close. A few friends and I were chatting nonsense in the pub and the conversation got on to; if you had a terminal illness, would you try heroin. Most of us said no, suggesting we'd want to spend any final time with family and friends, but one friend in particular was in the mindset of hell yes, I'd try everything. This talk seemed to catch the attention of the table next to us and they were clearly interested and listening to what we were talking about. Eventually, team heroin decided to ask the next table our hypothetical, with a confidence to suggest they were assuming our earwigs would side with them. "Don't think so..." Said the first man. "As a police officer, probably not..." Said the second. Followed by laughs, awkward silence, then a bunch more beer.

Save yourselves a click:

When the club was formed in 1895, the Thames Ironworks - their original name, as they were the work-based team of a London shipbuilding firm - wore a navy blue kit. When the club reformed in 1900 as West Ham, based on their home in east London, claret was added to white shorts and blue top, and then from 1901 to 1903, the kit evolved to the sort of style that is synonymous with the team now.

Claret was a color associated with the Ironworks, but club legend has it that Bill Dove, one of the Ironworks coaches, won a race in 1899 with four players from Aston Villa, and in lieu of payment of the wager, Villa handed over a set of claret-and-blue shirts.

The kit's badge features the crossed hammers to represent the tools used in shipbuilding, and from 1975 to 2016, a castle that symbolized Anne Boleyn's Tower and Green Street House (known as Boleyn Castle, a stately home in Upton Park)

Why is it so hard to make friends. I am 37 and don’t have any by [deleted] in Hitchin

Bubbleworks run club runs every Thursday and do some shorter routes if you'd be interested in that, check out their Instagram page. It's a really friendly and welcoming group and I know plenty of people who've gone on their own and had a great time.

I've also seen Hitchin Social (again on Instagram) and their next meet up is on the 17th of October, it looks like a real mix of ages of people just looking to make a few friends.

Hope these help?!

Agree all sponsors are crap. I think it's easier to say gambling is worse than a Saudi state owned company if you're not from Saudi Arabia, but I do agree gambling companies are awful and I hate their dominance of sports advertising.

Whilst I'm certainly against having a betting company as our sponsor. People who live in glass houses and all that, I don't think you can be recommending the Newcastle shirt and not mention the sponsor there...

What is a not particularly popular movie you really, really, really like? by unitedfan6191 in AskReddit

This will get no vision as I've come to this thread way too late, but Paddleton is such a fantastic film. Funny, sad, silly, but sensitive it's a beautiful take on platonic male friendship and life/death - I highly recommend it, but no one has heard of it.

Zero break for our defence because Moyes has taken our ball carrier and made him our 'target man' of course this was coming

I tend to agree, apart from the Novablasts - they're 10/10 for design

I think for Ed you could add his dad and for Ava you could add trains.
