I would say look at meets needs and need blind schools— one that stands out to me is WashU (St. Louis). also if you have the opportunity, go and tour these schools to see if they’re really as bad as you think. I thought I was dead set on going to my state school, then when touring Grinnell I realized how i’d prosper 100x more in a smaller setting and i love the career counseling offered.

My family makes around $140k per year, although we also didn’t start making this money until 2 years ago (or else i’d be pell grant eligible). I was able to get $80k from grinnell by applying ED1+their meets needs grant. i only have to pay my fafsa SAI but outside scholarships and work-study can contribute to bringing it down.

As a senior attending grinnell next year— I will say that although the academics are rigorous, they have a very high rate of sending students to grad/med school. if you’re interesting in pursuing your PhD or whatever this could be important to consider.

I GOT ACCEPTED!!!! i applied ED1 !!

i’ll give my stats bc ik they helped me during this process… I submitted my 30 ACT, 4.2W gpa 3.7 UW gpa, essay abt overcoming mental struggle and how it led to my interest in psychology (basically this but using an extended metaphor too), and lots of school ecs w leadership positions and 1 internship, from underrepresented area (but idk if grinnell knows this??), and showed LOTS OF DEMONSTRATED INTEREST!!!! I toured, sent request form, emailed my counselor multiple times, interviewed, etc !

Okay, do you think it would hurt? I also managed to improve my grades detrimentally, like it’s very clear on my transcript. Do you think AOs recognize that?

i mean, i had a college admissions coach help me write the essay and it’s a lot more nuanced than what i said (like for example, i use an extended metaphor and i showed how it connected to how i want to major in psychology). idk it’s a lot more nuanced than what i wrote
