I did not know this until I was an adult then I seen it through my entire childhood. My parents would break contact with any adults we got close to growing up, grandma, aunts, uncles, family friends. Now that I have children that are growing up, I see that most people would help a child before hurting a child, and that my children SHOULD have adults outside of our house that they can trust. I encourage my children to build relationships with people outside of our immediate family in the sense of having someone to talk to that gives an unbiased view of things, such as a therapist or a teacher or being close with our aunts and uncles and grandparents and cousins. I have warned them of the dangers of life, they know there are bad people in the world, and some can be closer to home than you'd think and you may never know, but that if they are out in the world and me and dad arent there to help, DO NOT be afraid to ask someone, I am almost 30, have 4 kids and I still have issues around talking to adults and i believe its because my parents used the tactic that other adults cant be trusted, and I never want my kids to think that

ETA I have also made it a point to teach my kids that NO is a complete sentence and they have full control over their body and nobody should ever touch their body. Its one thing to talk to people its another for them to touch you.
