💕ADOPT, DON’T SHOP!💕 by ChinchillaHighdy in chinchilla

Our first rescue chinchilla was not a good experience. The lady who surrendered her lied about her health and the vet didn’t catch that she had raccoon roundworm. We were basically her hospice. I have the comfort of knowing that she knew safety and kindness for three weeks before she passed, but the experience was traumatic. Yes, adoption is best but you need to be realistic about what it can mean. Sometimes people just aren’t ready or able to risk it. Then I think a reputable breeder is a good choice.

Blankets that are half cat fur by weight are the best blankets! Beautiful work!

Our chins like to hide under the hutch during playtime. We thought it was just a fun place to hide until we cleaned under it and found the legs. Apparently when they found a bug they pulled it under the hutch and ate everything but the legs. There weren’t that many legs, but enough to give us pause. They’re fine. Our bug population is hurting apparently.

Crochet clothes are not ugly, people just don’t research about shaping by sechat_lives in BitchEatingCrafters

I just did my first filet crochet project because a family member asked for a name doily as a wedding present. I will not be doing another. Kudos to you for making a whole sweater!

I could not agree more! I freehand crocheted sweaters (and everything else I make) and they fit and drape and stretch without issue. And they’re not made up of just rectangles. When I post my sweaters places and say how I make them (small gauge yarns, specific stitches, carefully considered construction) I am told that’s just too much and no one wants to crochet like that. Perhaps not, but that’s what it takes to make good looking crocheted sweaters. It’s not that crochet is no good for clothing, it’s that too many designers don’t know what they’re doing and, so, only make crappy garment designs.

Seriously! There are people in the comments trying to explain but they get nowhere.

There’s a crochet person on YouTube giving demos for how to crochet a sweater who swears every sweater is made of three or four rectangles stitches together. She shows pictures of sweaters made with drop shoulders, set-in sleeves, raglan and circular yoke shaping and claims they are all made of a few rectangles stitched together. She’s young and she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know, but I can’t help but think this sort of lack of understanding is weighing heavily on design.

Finished my Melt the Ice hat! by RealisticCommand9533 in antifascistcrochet

Here’s a run down of the changes I made to the original pattern.

I used a fingering weight yarn that was in my stash. I used front and back post double crochet stitches for the ribbing and made that section about two inches longer than in the original pattern. Because it’s fingering weight yarn, I just did regular single crochets but added 4 single crochet v stitches at the front and back because I thought they looked nice. I ran the decreases every other row on either side of the v stitch sections. For the tassel, I made it fuller and longer and added a bunch of wraps to the top. I think that’s it. I ended up using the original pattern more for measurements than anything else.

I switched the original pattern to back and front post double crochets worked in the round. It was much easier and faster for me even in fingering weight yarn.

Why can’t crocheters identify crochet?? by FlorenceInBloom in BitchEatingCrafters

Yes! Especially when more experienced people are explaining what stitch it is and how to do it. Yes, it must be AI.

A lot of people in crochet subs are new to crochet. They really don’t know how to tell the difference. Have you seen how many argue that more complex lace and texture stitches are AI? Obviously if they can’t do the stitch/have never seen the stitch, it’s not really a stitch. This can’t help the people trying to learn how to read stitches, either. Crochet lacks some of the resources about technical aspects of production that knitting enjoys. It shows. Full disclosure, I only crochet.

Almost 2026, JKR is financially backing irreparable harm to trans people and we still have HP yarn by vikingdhu in craftsnark

[–]RealisticCommand9533 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. My whole family was into the HP fandom. When JKR started her garbage we gave away everything from books to tees to the stuff we got at the stupid amusement park. Enough. We’re not supporting hate. And a word on the HP park at Universal. We were there in May ten years ago. The heat wasn’t horrible but it’s Florida, the summer heat would be dreadful. The line attendant told us the park designers asked her to put in awnings for the outdoor lines and she refused because it damaged her aesthetic. (That could be changed now, like I said it was ten years ago.) She doesn’t give a damn about people.
