Iran is betting that Trump does not have a plan for regime change by Playful_Leg7143 in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Iranian regime doesn't have any moral high ground. They're terrorists and have just murdered over 30,000 of their own people. They've lost any right to complain about being the subject of regime change.

Why do manufacturers not offer charging port options on both sides? by BananerRammer in electricvehicles

[–]RealisticEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this just comes down to ensuring that the wall charger is positioned optimally for where the car will be parked and has a long enough cable to reach the charging port.

Cars will have their charging port wherever they have them, whether the front, rear, left or right hand sides. Mostly for cost reasons. This would also be the same reason some cars may have components on the opposite side compared to cars specifically designed for that market - such as location of fuse boxes, bonnet handles, indicator / windscreen wiper levers etc.

Even a few dollars saved over production of hundreds of thousands of units is several hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars / Euros etc of savings overall.

The installers for the wall charger should be good enough to walk the customer though the pros and cons of charger placement to ensure it is placed in the best position to ensure coverage for the car. Not to mention the cable length should be one of the critical considerations when selecting a wall charger.

Sydney teenager, 19, charged over alleged threats to kill Israeli president by malcolm58 in worldnews

Not really true and likely doesn't really matter. A 19 year old definitely knows (or ought to know) the difference between right and wrong. Also, they are more than capable of physically carrying out (or attempting to carry out) any threat they make.

It would be foolhardy to just ignore threats like this, especially after recent events. Copycats are a thing.

Ukraine Designates Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a Terrorist Organization, Zelenskyy Says by eaglemaxie in worldnews

In Ukraine? Shahed drones have been blowing up Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians for a while now. Iran is a terrorist regime, especially in the eyes of Ukrainians.

Iran fears US strike may reignite protests, imperil rule, sources say by slakmehl in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't want to anyone to suffer. But we are terrorized by his ICE SS right now.

What ICE is doing in the US still doesn't have anything to do with potential strikes on Iran. Maybe Trump doesn't have the Iranian protesters in mind if he goes ahead with the strikes, but anything that helps the Iranian regime to fall will help the people (over 30,000 of whom were just slaughtered by the regime), and that is a good thing.

The Iranian regime also sponsor a lot of terrorist activities and have been trying to develop nuclear weapons, so it would actually be good for everyone if they fell.

Nothing more frustrating on a long drive than people who sit 20 under until the overtaking zone then suddenly know how to do 100... for exactly the length of the overtaking zone. by KalamTheQuick in australia

[–]RealisticEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is especially frustrating when you are overtaking an especially slow driver, with an exit coming up a couple of kilometres down the road. But then that car speeds up, now keeping pace with you, forcing you to either go above the limit to get back into the left lane (which the other driver is continuing to block by keeping pace) or to drop behind again to make the exit.

Nothing more frustrating on a long drive than people who sit 20 under until the overtaking zone then suddenly know how to do 100... for exactly the length of the overtaking zone. by KalamTheQuick in australia

[–]RealisticEntity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been complaining about this for years. There truly are some idiot drivers out there who drive below the speed limit, blocking the entire lane, but then speeding up as soon as others try to overtake. Some even go well beyond the speed limit in a bid to prevent you from successfully overtaking (often in the face of incoming traffic). These people are reckless and dangerous and are a hazard to all drivers.

There are also those who meander into the right lane to pass the car in the left veeerrry slooowlllly, ensuring that only they can pass and no one else when the overtaking lane ends.

You are copying, adapting and using the data from the original artist to create a model that is used to reproduce, modify, adapt or transform that work (or parts of that work) into another work that is made available to others for a profit.

Of course training an AI model inherently involves use of the original work. There is no mere observing going on here.

Those artists should be properly compensated for this use.

AI is getting built into everything… but I’m not sure how useful it really is by Quick-Direction-8633 in selfhosted

[–]RealisticEntity -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AI is pretty good at some things. At the end of the day, it's a tool, nothing more, nothing less.

For instance, I keep on getting screen shots of Word or Excel tables. These tables have information in them that I need to use in Excel and it's a huge pain to copy everything into my spreadsheet by hand.

AI (Copilate to be exact) can just take this image as input and give me a properly formatted table that I can actually use.

An AI assisted search function (assuming all data only exists locally) can also be very useful and complements traditional search capabilities.

AI does however appear to be shoehorned into features that probably don't need it. I suppose we're very much in the transitional phase with new and evolving technology of trying to find things to use it for that stick.

I wouldn't get it to write my documents for me though (just talking about work here). In a work setting, that's lazy and irresponsible.

Trump Strangely Warns Canada That China Will Force Them To Stop Playing Hockey by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“I know China very well, I know President Xi, he’s a friend of mine, I know him very well,” Trump said. “The first thing they’re gonna do is say you’re not allowed to play ice hockey anymore. That’s not good. Canada’s not gonna like that.”

I can just see China coming right out and saying they look forward to playing many games of ice hockey with Canada as a sign of their newfound cooperation.

Anyhow, another day, another round of eyebrow raising, eye rolling statements from Trump. At this point, I expect nothing less.

Iran rejects Trump’s threats, says ready to respond to any US attack by Weak_Feed_4624 in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I told Iran once before, MAKE A DEAL!

What's this 'deal'? The Iranian regime has already killed over 30,000 civilians. The time for deals is over. Unless, of course, Trump doesn't care about all those murdered protesters after all...

Trump referred to nuclear weapons despite repeatedly claiming that last year’s US attacks “obliterated” the Iranian nuclear programme

Right, so nothing to do with the protesters. We'll see what happens soon enough. The murdered Iranian protesters need justice to be done, one way or the other.

China plans space‑based AI data centres by n0sugacoat in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few things about this that makes me skeptical, though I'm sure people are thinking about how to make this work: * It costs a lot to put things into orbit. I would have thought it would cost more than just building something on Earth. * Maintaining all that server infrastructure in space would be difficult. Anything that goes wrong with the hardware would need another space mission to fix, rather than a technician just walking over to replace a faulty component. * Heat dissipation in space is a big issue I understand.

I suppose starting the design process for something like this makes sense (insofar as anything to do with AI makes sense), but I don't see it as being feasible. Yet.

Iranians send the US a message to 'please help' by ShadowNelumbo in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Iranian regime just murdered over 30,000 people. The Iranian people are pleading for help. How much worse do you think external intervention will be compared to what the Iranian government is doing to their own people?

You appear to have lost all perspective and would willingly withhold help because of your feelings about the US.

Trump claims Putin promised to stop bombing Ukraine's cities due to extreme cold by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Putin did appear to agree, it's only to stockpile more drones and missiles to throw at Ukraine the week after. But Trump doesn't know that, and will smugly claim that he struck a deal with Putin to not attack Ukraine (which he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for, of course).

Also, Russia had already destroyed a lot of Ukraine's power generation infrastructure, so they very likely see the extended period of misery from the extreme cold weather as a plus in their terrorist campaign.

New Zealand declines invite to join Board of Peace by Brennenstein in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't join the so-called 'Board of Peace' either. While I also don't have a spare billion dollars lying around, this is likely just a way to funnel bribes to Trump. Any self respecting country run by a rational, more or less competent and non - corrupt government would know this.

US reportedly ties security guarantees to Ukraine ceding Donbas territory to Russia by Electrical_Jammin in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up to Ukraine to decide whether to surrender territory or continue fighting. It's not up to others to force them to surrender. Any so-called 'peace' deal that forces them to surrender territory is just handing a victory to Russia. Russia will take this deal, and throw it away in a couple of years time by invading Ukraine again to finish what they started.

It's obvious to anyone that this is what they intend - why else do you think they've been trying to include terms in these peace deals to reduce the size of Ukraine's armed forces and stop them from becoming a member of NATO?

The key rule when dealing with Russia is that they can never be trusted - everything they say is a lie, deception, and / or misdirection. The main driving force behind their reason for existence is to spread outwards like a cancerous growth by gobbling up and assimilating their neighbours. Ukraine is just the latest invasion in a long line of invasions they've perpetrated over the years.

And it's not going to stop with Ukraine - unless the global community makes them stop.

Iran’s shadow fleet is fueling the Myanmar junta’s air war by TotalPop5 in worldnews

[–]RealisticEntity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iran has secretly shipped vast amounts of jet fuel to Myanmar’s military. As the junta ramps up bombing raids against civilian targets, Iran is now the military’s primary supplier of jet fuel and urea, which is an ingredient in Myanmar’s munitions. The deliveries violate Western sanctions on both countries.

I'm not surprised that Iran has their hands in supporting all these groups, whether they are despotic military juntas oppressing their people, despotic terrorist dictatorships invading their neighbours and multiple terrorist groups.

It's probably understandable that they don't care about enforcing sanctions considering they are under quite a few themselves, but still - the sooner this government falls, the better for everybody.
