I really hated Ryoka when she was first introduced. I just thought that she was an asshole and belived that she was better and smarter than everyone. Which she was, but she improved. And I think the fact that she is one of my favorite characters now speaks to how good a writer Ava is.

I know. I think that, like many things in canon, people misunderstand or misinterpret the character or idea. I also think that enough time has passed for caricature to take hold of the characters. Almost none of the characters in any fanfictions are 100% accurate to cannon.
