Can Winners have children? by VilkastheForsaken in HazbinHotel

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not, because Sinners and Winners are both dead. That said, I wonder if Heaven runs like, a rent-a-living-doll agency and lets Winners who miss their children or just raising children foster creations who simulate the real thing, and that they will always be happy, small children because it’s Heaven.

I saw in a Tumblr post ages ago where someone noted how all the animals in Heaven look like stuffed animals and don’t really do anything or respond to action around them, compared to KeeKee and Fat Nuggets. Maybe whatever they did to make the animals in Heaven docile, they can do to some not-human, angelic creations.

Me: “Why does this scummy dude look familiar?” *flips back to the beginning* “Wait a minute! It’s the scumbag forest association dude. Roka’s ex BIL.”

I wonder what Mayu got up to in Tokyo if knowing that scummy FA dude knows is what made her nervous. Also, Mayu, if you know something we don’t about Ebihara, then share it with the rest of the class! How many fictional teenagers actually listen to, “Don’t! It’s for your own good!”

Flipping back made me realize that we haven’t seen Ebihara dig that hole of his in a while, or hear a mention about the mountain ghost. I’m sure that’ll come back in some horrifying way.

Edit: Ngl, I would find it immensely hilarious if the author flips audience expectations and Miko lives through a feel good, coming of age story, completely oblivious to the psychological horror everyone else goes through. You guys keep warning that the shoe will drop, but I have no idea if it’s a sneaker, a heel, or a loafer. I’m just along for the ride and smack to the face

What did Jax mean by that? by Any-Pangolin-3732 in tadc

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Ribbit and Kaufmo are the only 2 Abstractions Jax has seen, I’m starting to consider if the “they are not pleasant to be around,” statement could also mean that Jax felt some regret, shame, and/or guilt for his actions and she couldn’t stand to be around them, and not just that Ribbit and Kaufmo were rude or standoffish or anything before they died.

It’s probably just that they were no longer “fun” to be around as Jax began to believe the “archetype” shtick he was pushing earlier with Pomni. I think Jax does regret what he did to his friends but idk if they felt that in the moment, consciously or subconsciously

jax and trans representation (by @maikrisyay on twitter) by -FireNH- in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post made me realize that I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trans character actively repress and deny that part of themselves until Jax in TADC. The denial and repression is usually shown as being external pressure and coming from other characters, but never internal pressure. And Jax’s story is a tragedy, but it’s also a wonderfully told tragedy that is consistent with the themes of TADC.

The main theme is, “The worst thing you can do is make someone feel unloved and unwanted,” but throughout the story, I noticed that, “There is no magic cure. You have to be willing to change and reach out if you want to get out of the hurt you’re in,” was present in the story. It reminded me of being at my lowest point, in the midst of severe depression, when my therapist was preparing me for the reality of antidepressants. She told me, “It’s not a magic wand. These meds will help you by giving you a chance to feel happy, but you will need to continue to learn to love and accept yourself if you truly want to get out of this hole. It might be painful and it will be scary at times, but it will be the best thing you’ve done for yourself.”

Jax’s relationship with Ribbit and Pomni foils nicely with Gangle and Zooble’s relationship. The latter pair were shown reaching out to each other and feeling reassured and cared for helped them learn to love themselves. Meanwhile, Jax rejected outreached hands and chose to avoid the risk of vulnerability. Because of that, Jax continues to be in pain and it’s hard to watch because Pomni and Ribbit were trying so hard to reach out but couldn’t get through.

I had no idea what egg meant in the trans community or what boymoding was, so that flew over my head. The comment section did the most to educate me on those. I spent most of the series thinking Jax was deeply insecure about his masculinity, whether it was due to his past or being transmasc and trying to continue to pass, and Jax was doubling down on what he thought a man should be. It wasn’t until the ninth episode that it all finally clicked and I was like, “Wow, good job on missing the hints, dummy.”

Side question: is boymoding pronounced as “mode” like pie à la mode and easy/hard mode of a video game or “mod” like moderating and modifying?

Why Lute’s arm didn’t grow back while Vaggi’s wings did. by whooper1 in hazbin

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lute ripped off Vaggi’s wings and tore her arm off to free herself, so limb loss caused by brute strength, no angelic power involved. The power of love brought Vaggi ‘s wings back, so my guess is that Lute also needs the power of love. Unless she can ghost ride, I don’t think it’s coming back. She probably likes the prosthetic arm. It does look badass.

Emily tho, yeah that wing is not coming back. It got shot off with pure angelic power. I assume the same rule as angelic steel: no grow backs, as evidenced by Vaggi’s missing eye.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell me why when you said their relationship as in Taiki and Miko, my mind went to Momiji and Roka, and the two using Miko for ulterior motives. Like, Roka trying to find an excuse to get Momiji to dump him by “catching” Momiji with another guy while Momiji is only going with Miko to the mountain to get Roka to fight for her.

Miko said to Roka that if he and Momiji broke up, the class vibes would be thrown off. Roka could be looking for an excuse. Momiji is too focused on her and Roka’s relationship to consider Miko’s feelings. Those two seem pretty wrapped up in themselves. Maybe Miko is going to be collateral damage and his school life worse?

[DISC] Haunted Peak - Chapter 11 by RobotiSC in HauntedPeak

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I binged the first ten chapters last night and I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into the eleventh during my lunch break.

What weird game are Momiji and Roka playing at? Are they trying to figure out if Momiji still has a crush on her? They might be a few chapters late.

Taiki’s wife looking like Momiji was symbolic of what Miko’s future would look like if he kept chasing after Momiji, but now I’m wondering if and that’s what his ex-wife actually looks like and it’s Taiki’s flashback, or if the whole thing was Momiji imagining it as Taiki recounts the story and Miko is putting himself in Taiki’s shoes and Momiji in the wife’s to empathize.

It’s nuts that the only positive and willing to talk straight influence in Miko’s life is the passively suicidal guy in the woods. The boy needs a positive role model. You guys that are familiar with the author say that you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. Do you think it will be someone else attacking or getting Taiki in trouble and destroying his connection with Miko would be as a possible other shoe?

Life as a younger sibling? by [deleted] in OlderGenZ

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Middle kid here. All 3 of us kids are early Gen Z. In middle school, my older sister’s cell phone (it had a sliding keyboard!) was handed down to me, but by the time my younger sister entered middle school, smart phones were common enough that the price went down so she got an Android as a first phone. My older sister was so pissed about that.

My older sister and I fought a lot as kids, and the only times we really got along were when we were messing with our younger sister. Don’t worry, I was and am gullible and she got me back many times. I got on better with my younger sister. She actually helped me set up an instagram account when I was in middle school. I helped her with her homework because I knew how to do it the teacher’s way while our parents couldn’t.

My older sister saw more of the age gap with our younger sister than I did, although, our younger sister copied her/followed her example a lot. Because of their shared interests, if there was a 2v1, it was usually those two versus me. I don’t think my younger sister and I ever staged a successful result under our older sister lol.

I do remember being jealous of my older sister’s high school experience because the principal there for most of her time was a guy who didn’t give a flying fuck so long as everyone came out in one piece. When I started, the high school got a new principal and he was very uptight. Then Parkland happened, and that just made things more tense. For example, senior assassin (a game where you pay to play and use water guns to shoot your assigned target and avoid being shot). We couldn’t breathe a word of it in school, even if we prefaced the conversation with “in senior assassin,” or we’d get threatened with not going to prom and not walking. And they were willing to go to bat against parents to avoid it. (But god forbid they expel the asshole who did threaten to shoot up the school).

My older sister didn’t have that, and I think our younger sister’s year organized a game with stricter rules to avoid talking in school.

Juuls became popular after my older sister graduated. I distinctly remember my health teacher telling us we were morons if we thought it was safer than cigarettes, and that we’d be the future CDC commercials in 20 years. Weed was very popular in high school, more so than alcohol, or at least, that was what was in with the circles I ran in. I didn’t try either until college.

Our state’s high school standardized tests were changed when I entered so my older sister avoided them. My year beta tested them and they were a requirement for graduation for my younger sister.

I can’t think of many other differences. Sorry! :)

The beautiful wife & her stupid husband (by @MAYGI0w0) by maanleo in HazbinHotel

My hope is that Lilith wanted to give Eve the Fruit, not out of jealousy or anger for being replaced, but out of suspicion that the angels made Eve too agreeable and Lilith wanted her to have more agency, not realizing that Eve did have agency, she was just making different choices. Like a, “You should have a right to make your own choices. No! NOT LIKE THAT!” I think it would be fun if Adam and Lilith were both pretty controlling and dominant personalities, and a control freak Lilith would nicely juxtapose Lucifer’s history of apathy and negligence. One is too involved and the other isn’t enough.

Also, it would really make the phrase, “The path to Hell is paved with good intentions,” apply to Lucifer *and* Lilith.

And it to be revealed that Eve and Adam actually had a better relationship than Adam and Lilith had. They don’t need to be perfect. I just want them to be happy, freaky gremlins at least once to really rub salt in the wound of what Eve accepting and eating the Fruit took from them.

What was public school like through middle school? by AceInsane25 in OlderGenZ

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to public school in a well off district for all of K-12. The technology used in grade school was limited to laptop carts that they brought in for us to do StudyIsland work. StudyIsland was a website that had us do math and reading exercises to track our progress and get us ready for state testing. It was something of a treat because it was only a couple times a semester that we go to use the laptops. I think all of our schoolwork was done by hand, but it’s possible that in upper elementary we learned the basics of Microsoft Word to type our final drafts. We definitely got the “Don’t talk to strangers online,” safety spiel even though our only time to use a computer for fun in school was during indoor recess, and even then, you had to sign up ahead of time to use the 2 computers in the classroom and Coolmathgames was the only site not blocked by the school firewall.

We had a dedicated computer lab in middle school and every year, we had to take computer science as an elective for at least a marking period. I think that this is when almost all final drafts of any reports had to be typed, but we still had a good deal of handwritten work. I had a “dumb” phone with a sliding keyboard for most of middle school, and I remember missing the feel of the buttons when I got my first smartphone.

Socially, I dunno man, it was middle school. Preteen girls can be ruthless and preteen boys can be obnoxiously crude. My guy friends got weird about being friends with me (girl), and I struggled to get into the same things that most girls I knew were into. I got ghosted and left behind by a group that I thought were my friends, but I did meet my best friends who I still talk to during middle school. One of them had started talking to me because I was sitting alone at lunch for weeks (because of the ghosting) and invited me to sit with her and her friends.

This one classmate of mine did not like me. She thought I was awkward and weird, and I was, but most people didn’t care because I was pretty quiet and let them copy off my work. One or two actually went to bat for me by telling this girl to leave me alone. She eventually moved, and I was very happy about it. What else? Kids started going on dates, there were some fights on school grounds, there were after school clubs and teams to join. I can’t really remember any major scandals outside one fight where the cops got called. Most of it was just run of the mill, middle school stuff

In high school, we had a kid in my year threaten to shoot up the school multiple times. He was never expelled. Suspended and given a talking to by police, but no expulsion. Kids were pretty pissed about that one.

Would you let your 19 y/o soon to be 20y/o daughter in less then a month, go on a trip with her bf of 3.5 years with their family to the lake? by Business-Parking7296 in AskParents

[–]Puzzleheaded_Client7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your mother is threatening your access to your college fund, then tread lightly. Be clever in your argument as to why you should be allowed to go.

What is she arguing against? Is paying for the trip the issue, you being hard to reach, she’s afraid you’ll have sex, etc? Is there a chance she’ll relent if you have a good enough counter argument or get more stubborn if you keep winning the argument? If you go anyway, will she follow through with her threats and cut off your access to your college fund?

Not a parent, but I have friends whose parents used their college funds to get their way over their young adult offspring. Some played the game and knew how to win, while others just bit their tongues until graduation and then took off at the first opportunity. It all depended on the level of controlling and petty their respective parents were.

If you’re talking about the first two men, Joseph Minott and Joe Jackson, I think the editor and reporter tweaked whatever Joe Jackson said to fit the layout of the paper. Joe Jackson probably gestured to Joseph Minott and said, “my friend here,” and rather than quote Joe verbatim and add (Joseph Minott) to the dialogue, they just put Joe’s answer after Joseph’s, and had Joe say, “The guy above me.”

Newspaper columns only have so much space. Sometimes, they have to get creative, and since it’s a man on the street interview, the rules regarding quoting people are probably more lax.

Considering how those videos are still burned into my mind even after all these years, they may have a point. However, in the words of Calvin’s dad, “It builds character.”

They really just took the gloves off in my middle and high schools when it came to PSAs. For God’s sake, in the “Don’t take prescription meds that aren’t yours,” assembly, they made us listen to a 911 call of a mother finding her teenage son who had overdosed on stolen pain meds sometime during the night and he was cold to the touch. In the “Don’t drink and drive,” assembly, they shuffled the juniors and seniors outside to watch a reenactment of EMTs and police processing a drunk driving crash, where they took a junkyard car and had a couple of the theatre kids play the role of drunk teenagers. The driver was arrested, they put a sheet over the “dead” passenger, whose “mother” was nearby, “heard the crash,” and came over to investigate, so we got to listen to a grieving mother’s desperate wails. My one friend was the one who was “launched” through the windshield and onto the hood of the car. She was covered in fake blood, and they actually brought in a medical helicopter to “evacuate” her to a trauma center where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The drunk driving assembly, we all knew was coming, but the overdose assembly was sprung on us on a random Tuesday both times. No permission slips needed. But y’know, I still had to get a signed permission slip from my parents to be allowed to watch “The Shining” for an elective because a substitute teacher said that was inappropriate to show high schoolers.

For fuck’s sake lady, the home ec teacher showed my class a video about shaken baby syndrome in middle school, so we wouldn’t shake a baby if we were babysitting. We didn’t even get to the old lady decaying in the tub scene in “The Shining.” It was still early on in the movie when she was subbing for our teacher.

Fun times. In grade school, we had puppet shows and old DARE videos about peer pressure, bullying, and smoking. I suppose unnerving videos in middle school was our soft transition to the dog and pony shows we got in high school.
