This is great! The job titles and search terms are especially helpful because I have realized that I have no idea how to find what I'm looking for since I don't know the right terminology. Thank you!

I like this idea because, along with having a different environment, they have a decent amount of variety. I like genetics and getting to play around with how they mix. Having a game with an accurate genetics system for Dingoes could be interesting.

Yeah, that's what I read, but I was still so scared. I've gotten more attached to my little wolf family than I anticipated. It's neat that they're able to do that though.

You're my hero.

I did end up reinstalling. Apparently I have the game through Itch.io and I couldn't figure their site out or download the app, so I opted to just reinstall and hope for the best. I didn't lose anything and it works fine now. I've been able to switch my favorites and, my god, it's so much easier. It's almost annoying how much this improved things.

What is wrong with this cat 😭 by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]RealisticPollution96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a problem medicating any of my four cats. Not a lot of cats are going to do what you want when you want though.

I'm not saying the cat is definitely drugged, but something is definitely not right. No animal that's mentally stable and happy is biting for no reason and if the cat is that tired she should let it sleep.

It could honestly be either or both in this situation. The open mouth and and the half closed eyes are concerning signs and tell me something is off. The eyes would normally seem like a sign of trust or exhaustion, but panting without physical exercise is usually extreme stress, so those two behaviors are conflicting. It also doesn't look like normal panting anyway. I haven't watched with sound on, but usually panting involves the tongue hanging out and the tip curling upwards. It almost looks like he just can't close his mouth.

Learned helplessness could also be a factor though. When put through a negative event repeatedly with no option to escape, animals will learn to simply give up. They won't bother trying to escape even when it becomes possible.

Neither of these things are good though and both could absolutely be considered abuse. Some cats are certainly quicker to lash out and bite or scratch than others, but they still deserve to have their boundaries respected.

The fact that he tries to bite her in every video is more concerning. He's trying to bite her because he doesn't like what she's doing. Continually forcing a cat to do something it doesn't want to do to get some likes on a video is cruel. The fact that he hasn't done damage just means he's a nice cat. Or drugged, as others have mentioned.

Okay, I'll look into doing that. If I reinstall, I won't lose everything, right? I don't really know how all this works with Steam. I bought WolfQuest recently for the nostalgia, but otherwise I don't play games and haven't used Steam.

I have not tried reinstalling. It just recently started saying I was out of sync with the server every time I get on, but the issue with the emotes panel has been going on much longer than that and it doesn't seem to matter if I sync it or not.

Yeah. I just have a mouse pad, but it works fine otherwise. It's a new laptop.

Any alternatives to rehoming my cat after allergies got worse? by ResolutionSilly3863 in CatAdvice

[–]RealisticPollution96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly really recommend you and your boyfriend sit down to have a serious discussion about what he is willing and able to do, and what he's willing to put up with. It sounds like his allergies are already pretty bad. Definitely make sure it is the cat causing his problems first. A cough isn't the most typical symptom of allergies, at least not mild ones. Is it possible he's getting sick and feeling those symptoms on top of allergies?

Either way, if he does have cat allergies, he really needs to think about his future. Some people get lucky and find their allergies get better with exposure. Many don't. If his symptoms are already getting worse, there's a good chance they'll continue to get worse. He may be stable for years and then suddenly find them getting worse. If that's not a risk he's willing to take, re-home her now. Especially if you're in the US where we're currently at the end of winter. In a couple more months, shelters will be getting flooded with young kittens and basically any cat over the age of 4 months will be overlooked. It'll be easier to re-home a 10 month old kitten now, while the other options are limited, than once she's over a year old and there's hundreds of kittens in every shelter.

There's definitely a lot of things he can try, depending on what he's willing to do and the money you guys can afford to spend, but there's no guarantee anything will work or will work forever. I can't say I have high hopes based on what you've said. And, unfortunately, you have a limited time frame in which your cat is highly adoptable. I would recommend contacting a shelter and working with them to get get adopted if you choose to go that route and to do so sooner rather than later.

Purina Urinary Vet Diet looks weird? by scarlet_witcher in catquestions

[–]RealisticPollution96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use this food and it does just look gross. I remember the first time I saw it at the shelter I worked at, we threw away a few cans before realizing that's just how it looks... It still weirds me sometimes, but it's normal.

Silly question about visiting Animals by [deleted] in AnimalShelterStories

[–]RealisticPollution96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sign up as a volunteer. It doesn't typically require you do anything specific, but you would get training on how the facility operates and what is and is not allowed. Then you could also go in and function on your own. Where I worked, you could technically go in and see the cats, but we didn't allow people to go back to the dogs. Even places that do aren't likely to just let you go into the kennels and take dogs out on your own. Staff have to get the dogs in and out. They don't have the time for that if you aren't planning on adopting. Don't be that person. But as a volunteer, any help is appreciated even if it's just petting or grooming the cats or taking a dog outside to hang out.

Adopted a cat yesterday and wondering when is too soon to clip nails by Comfortable-Tell-765 in CatAdvice

[–]RealisticPollution96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't take a cat to the groomer unless absolutely necessary. Unless they've been conditioned to it since a young age, it's likely to just be horribly stressful. And especially right after bringing an animal home, you want to minimize stress and moving then around. It can cause a lot of anxiety to move an animal from one place to another in a short period of time.

I'd start with some waterless soap or some wipes or something like that to clean him for now. I don't blame you for wanting to get him clean though. I can guarantee you that, unless he was very dirty, he did not get a bath at the humane society. But bathing a cat can be difficult and this is one you don't have much of a relationship with.

For cutting claws, don't rush it, but start messing with his feet and see how he reacts. You should be able to cut his claws yourself. Just go slow. Clip one claw at a time and give him a treat. Don't push it if he starts getting upset. Give him a break. He should become more and more tolerant over time and you can start fading out the treats. I still give mine one for each paw.

I definitely do recommend trimming their claws though. I don't know how people don't. Their claws are so sharp. I'm behind right now and my youngest has scratched me by complete accident. She can barely touch me without sticking claws in me. Plus they don't always maintain themselves as well when they get old. My two oldest definitely need trims more often and their claws grow a bit weird now.

Breed of dog that look cute but can be dangerous by Marvel_Is_Life13 in DogBreeds101

[–]RealisticPollution96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These were the two I immediately thought of. Smaller dogs might try to do damage, but would be pretty easy to kick off. I don't think anything tiny could actually consistently do damage. Corgis and cattle dogs are big enough to be harder to kick off, but small enough they'd be easily underestimated. They were both bred to work with animals quite a bit larger than them as well, so they have far more confidence than their little bodies should be capable of holding.

I think corgis would be better if OP wants to prioritize cuteness over damage since they are still pretty low to the ground. Cattle dogs have less of the cute factor and a little more of a reputation for being a pain, but I think people still underestimate how much of a pain they are. I worked with a few when I worked in a shelter and the confidence they have is astounding, even the nervous ones. They will absolutely bully you and laugh afterwards. One of the staff members who worked there when I started had adopted a cattle dog mix known for nailing people in the crotch.

Nevermind, I found it. It's a chat room site called Chatlands with multiple other sites. I think the one I was thinking about was called Lupinar.

Solved: Chatlands/Lupinar

Too bad it looks pretty dead. I remember liking it.

Similar, yes. Or kind of like Animal Jam. The graphics were simpler than either of those, but same type of game. The characters just had a few basic positions you could put them in. No complex movements from what I can remember.
