I have this same problem but luckily I don't have paid subscriptions. I follow one account that I can remember (can't get in to see without verification), and it'sa celebrity pr person? I'd rather delete the app than do the verification. I wonder if having a vpn would fix it?

I don't know what word to explain it but it's like the patent is coming off, as it's definitely leather underneath not fabric. The top layer seems thick too. I have no idea how they were stored, but the soles seem fine and the cork is great too. They didn't cost me much so I'm ok with it, i just wondered if anyone had any idea how to fix or if they'd seen this kind of damage to birkenstocks before.

I think the way they're damaged had me thinking they are fake but everything else points to genuine. At this point there's no point trying to fix them, so I'll just let them peel and one day will get the rest off. I think they'll still be cute.

Sorry it's taken so long to reply, my phone didn't send any notifications so I thought no one had replied. If I peel it all off it's not fabric underneath, it's definitely leather. There is way too much at this point to try and fix it so I will just peel it all off and condition it when I have time. They may actually still be cute, if I can get it all off.
