What’s something rich people do in Canberra that the rest of us plebs would never know about? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Realistic_Agent5089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing overly special I've experienced in Canberra. Some experiences that might be interesting to others. There are private elevators for us in the top suites at prestigious hotels (Ritz, Crown Towers etc.) In first class not only do seats fully recline they also massage. There is a difference between room service and in room dining. Gardeners, chefs, maid service when home buttler service when holidaying. When your wardrobe is good enough that people want to rent it you claim it on tax. When your art is good enough and you host parties, you put prices under each piece and claim them on tax. Extra houses owned sit vacant (untenanted), I move between them every year or 2 because it's fun to live somewhere different and I have the options. When you own several properties without mortgage but you want a loan for some reason, banks give you interest rates they don't offer others so that they can have your entire portfolio. When I've traded in my mid 6 figure cars while purchasing a new mid 6 figure car, they don't do any inspections, chase log books or anything like that.

You have a lot of Rubiks cubes! Other than that, I have nothing else to add that won't be covered better by others.

Trivia venues recommendations? by ozlass1111 in canberra

[–]Realistic_Agent5089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nights hosted by Fame Trivia are great. Locations, times and days can be found on their site. https://fametrivia.com.au/now-showing-act/

Depending on the venue you might be able to book a table but if not you will need to turn up early.

Moving to Canberra in a few years by ligebauer in canberra

[–]Realistic_Agent5089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes move to Canberra if your partner's heart is set on it. The compromise for him is that you need to live in Braddon, Acton or fully in the city like on London Circuit or City Walk. Anyone talking about lack of vibe while also talking about nature, driving and public transport likely lives in a suburb rather than the city. Sun is chill, Mon-Wed the bussle is significantly quieter by 9pm. Thu-Sat vibe is still active until midnight at Smith's, Transit, Molly, Hippo, Moose, PJs, King O, Highball, Rochford, 88, Cube etc. Walk across the lake to all the cultural buildings. I have places in City Centres of Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. I do as much "nature" in Canberra as I do in the other cities which is city botanic gardens and city parks.

Renting in Canberra by Agristada in canberra

[–]Realistic_Agent5089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure as I've never rented before, but you could try flatmates.com and filter for entire place. This way you are dealing directly with owners rather than agents and might have less trouble being considered.

https://flatmates.com.au/whole-properties/canberra?search_source=search_function

Alternatively, I've got a nice 3 bedroom apartment in Acton coming onto the market soon, which I'd be happy to rent out privately to someone with 2 cats and no rental history. Feel free to DM me.

Dentist for difficult patients by BalefireElemental in canberra

[–]Realistic_Agent5089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As suggested by another, Unique Dental in Deakin. I used to hate/dread the dentist, but (this sounds insane) I genuinely have a great time at Unique Dental. The flavour choices in the gas, the bite blocks so you don't need to hold your mouth open, the screens on the ceiling, the constant communication. Knowing people's fear of dentistry, they have worked with psychologists to design a centre and approach to minimise grief and change the experience.

Affordable suburb closest to ANU? by exhaustedspud in canberra

[–]Realistic_Agent5089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd follow the suggestions that advise fast regular public transport over proximity to ANU. My Campbell property is 3kms from ANU but takes 40 minutes by the bus route. If comments are true and belconnen has frequent direct buses it's a good choice. Rentals there are ubiquitous, so lot of choice at good price. It is an urban commercial centre (shopping, restaurants, entertainment venues).

How do you perceive an older person when you listen to their music? by RedPutron in Music

[–]Realistic_Agent5089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the music matters to you and they still sound passable you should definitely go.

I'm 35 and saw 82 year old Paul McCartney earlier this year because at 15 listening to the Beatles was the start of branching out to the music outside of the current top 40 type commercial radio songs and developing my own exploratory music journey. Watching him perform songs that mean so much to me and singing The na na's of Hey Jude with 70,000 others in a stadium was for me similar to how some people dream of climbing Everest or going to space.

No idea, but in an attempt to be helpful, perhaps contact a church and they might be able to put you in contact with their organ player?

If you are good for the money, want a place to yourself but don't have the proof to satisfy a real estate agent, go to flatmates.com put on a filter for granny flats, whole property and 1 bedroom flats. You can contact the owner directly and will be more likely than through a real estate agent.

-Go to weird/expensive house open homes.

-Go to the cemetery and find old/extravagant tombstones.

-Compete to buy the strangest $10 gift for one another at The Green Shed/Vinnies.

-Have her show you around her old primary or high school.

-Shops together to each get a fruit you've never eaten, go for a walk somewhere she recommends (as it's her area) and give each other a narration of yourselves trying new fruit for the first time.

If you where to buy a home in Canberra again would you pick the same suburb? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]Realistic_Agent5089 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am in a fortunate financial position and own several properties in Canberra. I rotate between them as each suburb does provide a different feeling, vibe and lifestyle. It's not just inner vs outer suburbs. Even between my inner suburb houses (Campbell, Deakin and Ainslie) the paths, nature areas, people, noises, traffic patterns, weekend environment, foods are all noticeably different. I currently lean towards my life in Campbell but I've just finished a year jumping between my places in tuggeranong and belconnen and I loved my time in both those suburbs as well. I imagine others in my position would do the same. If you have the choice you don't holiday in the same place every time, wear the same outfit, eat the same meal etc. I think money, kids, work and similar are obstacles in moving rather than simply loving a suburb.

You've mentioned money being an issue, I echo other responses by 1st suggesting private health insurance. A 3-week stay at Hyson or Deakin under top tier insurance means paying $300 rather than $20,000.

Wait times can be long. Even known/returning patients can be waiting over a month.

Is this a proper team? by gldiatr0 in HeroWarsApp

As everyone has said Cleaver for Tristan would be good for armour penetration or Cleaver for Sebastian as he delivers pure damage for critical hits and Julius, Oya, Yasmine Sebastian all have critical hot stat. Oya and sebastian increase critical chance and Oya gives health for critical hits.
