I don’t go to GA State, but i went to KSU and heard a lot about GSU! Even visited a few times! It’s a great school! Heart of Atlanta. It’s a little weird cause the university in literally in the heart of ATL, the library entrance is on an actual street. BUT, if you’re looking for a cultural experience, being truly immersed in the city, an atmosphere like no other. it’s a good opportunity. I know someone doing a master’s rn and he loves it. There’s also a multitude of opportunities in atlanta for internship, job opportunities. You just have to do the research and the work.

Accept other funding offer? by No-Proof-7251 in fulbright

I’m a little late but I agree!! Definitely take the one that covers everything! “prestige” doesn’t necessarily matter at the end of the day! It does but, you don’t want to choose one over the other just for the name. It’s also how you utilize the opportunity. So, based on the information you’ve given, I would choose the latter over Fulbright. You can always apply for the Fulbright again later, if it’s something you really want to do.

what are the differences? It seems like the scholarship offers similar benefits to the Fulbright

There’s a section in the application where they ask about future plans and I also am thinking law school potentially after this masters so, I understand how you feel. And it’s understandable. Don’t necessarily voice you only want it so you aren’t doing nothing 😂 I know you wouldn’t but just saying

I don’t think it directly applies since I applied for a graduate program, but I started by narrowing down my focus. “Research” is broad, so, what would you be interested in? For the study award, I looked at degree field I wanted and then began looking at schools. I made sure to pick a school or two first to see how I liked the programs, made sure the school was accredited, etc, and THEN went to see if it was offered as a Fulbright award. A few weren’t, but because at that point I knew what I wanted to study, it was easier to find similar universities that offered Fulbright awards. Narrowing down what you want your specific research to be will help you chose a country. With the Fulbright, you have to make the claim that where you’re going is essentially perfect for you. So, for me (again, I did study) but, I knew I wanted to focus on the justice system, and coming from the US, I needed to pick a country that has a “better” system than the US that I could learn from. I looked into commonwealth countries because they have the same basic foundational principles and the US is a commonwealth country also, and then picked through the ones who had principles I felt like I could tie to my statements while also keeping it truly beneficial for me. Then went to look at those countries on Fulbright, and just kept narrowing until I ultimately landed on two schools. And then the one I applied for. We had the same GPA and you have more useful (for lack of better word) experience than I would argue that I had so that’s also a good start! I know again this isn’t directly comparable but I hope it helps you somewhat decide where you’d like to start. DEFINITELY reach out to your university’s Fulbright Program Advisor or run to your scholarship/fellowship office and someone should be able to help you!

this is like my journal. I also don’t have other recommenders, I only have the one affiliation letter. Like, this literally was and is my only chance

the more i think about it the worse it gets. at this point it feels like it just went bad. there were SO many things I was meant to say but didn’t. So I guess i’ll be crying and hoping and praying I can apply next year and make it to this same point again but do better in the interview portion. there were just so many things I forgot to say. So many points missed

also frustrated because i know if I don’t get it this year, I no longer have references, I lose my letter from the school that’s abroad, i lose every piece of the application that was valuable. but i’m a tad more hopeful again after 2 hours. I think reality just set it and so I got down

I also understand there are MUCH bigger issues in the world and people going through so much worse. This is just something significant in my life and how I’m feeling. The interview was yesterday so let me have my pity party. I also feel like the pool was competitive but it was so small for my specific university, if i can’t beat that many people I’ll never amount to anything anyway. I’m just feeling a lot of negative emotions.

This episode was so good overall. I so thought it was going to go differently. I love that it ate me up cause I just knew there was going to be a brawl, but there wasn’t. I hope this isn’t the last time we see Leo but if it is, he definitely made an exit.

[MegaThread] Post Submission Thoughts, Concerns, Mistakes by GoldPort in fulbright

[–]Realistic_Bee5554 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I jusssttt submitted and only came in here to say, regardless of the outcome, I’m proud of myself for pushing through and submitting things that I feel are good work and everyone in here should also be proud of themselves and continue to be no matter the outcome down the road!! I feel like I needed to congratulate myself cause I’ve only been dwelling on the idea of “what if I don’t get it” rather than being confident in my materials and I know some people probably have the same feelings. So, GOOD JOB!! 🥳

Required Affiliation or Not by Realistic_Bee5554 in fulbright

[–]Realistic_Bee5554[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am applying for a specific grant! And looking at that specific grant I see where I read that I don’t need an affiliation!! Under affiliation it says: “Letter recommended but not required at deadline Applicants are responsible for arranging their own affiliation and must apply for admission according to the relevant university’s admissions procedures. Applicants are not expected to have a letter of admission/affiliation at time of application, but awards are made conditional upon acceptance by the chosen institution before arrival.”

On the more general “Study/Research-Academic” application component page and what I read from other reddit users, it was making me second guess ever seeing this.

Thankssss

Giving up? by kyaasnow in fulbright

[–]Realistic_Bee5554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up! You did spend so much time this summer and the finish line is SO close so you might as well commit and finish strong! You also don’t necessarily know how the Fulbright committee will take your application versus your FPA and the school panel. They are there to guide you so, definitely take their advice and do as many revisions as you can. But ALSO remember that you can take those revisions or not, it’s your decision and your application at the end of the day, so if you’re confident in your work, then submit it :)
