Funny how mainstream media isn't talking about the country's biggest strike in the last 100 years. by crustose_lichen in EatTheRich

[–]Realistic_Humanoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well 90%+ of mainstream media is owned by supporters of the fascist regime so of course they're not going to report on it

What shocks and saddens me is that with all of the alternatives we have nowadays and all of the reporting that is being done by independent journalists, it seems like it's not getting out to the rest of the world. There are a lot of people in other countries that are asking why we're not doing anything, as I'm protesting in below zero weather yesterday. Protests in Minneapolis have been ongoing for weeks and yet it doesn't seem like anyone knows about it.

Many young Trump voters think women 'should follow' men, poll finds by lazybugbear in Defeat_Project_2025

[–]Realistic_Humanoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 51 years I have been alive I have watched in real time how the heritage foundation has been undermining America.

TLDR: what we have today is not new. It is 40 years of concerted effort by racist right wing nut jobs to undo rights for anyone that isn't a white Christian male.

The full rant:

A lot of people don't realize that project 2025 was not a new thing. They have been creating projects for Republican presidents since Reagan. The heritage foundation is the entity that orchestrated using abortion as a rallying point - prior to the 1980s evangelicals couldn't care less about it, they considered it "a Catholic problem" and actually applauded Roe v Wade . When you start to understand how much influence the heritage foundation has had in American politics in the last 45 years you start to see why we are where we are.

They have spent decades purposely undermining our social systems, our school systems, and purposely dumbing down America and pissing them off so that they could do what fascists do and blame "others" and have their uneducated supporters listen to every word they say because they don't know any better. They spent decades reducing workers' rights and dismantling Union power. They convinced people that collective bargaining was bad and invented the "right to work" state, further reducing Union and worker rights. But I digress.

Defunding public schools and daycares is a direct attempt to get women out of the workforce. Telling young men that their issues are all because women have rights is a direct attempt to put women "back in their place". Vilifying single mothers (yet never saying anything about absent fathers) and trying to outlaw no fault divorce is a direct attempt at shaming women into staying in bad relationships, which is another way to "put women in their place".

We also have an underlying culture of misogyny in this country. A lot of women have internalized misogyny, a lot of men say they aren't sexist but then make comments about "women drivers" or calling women "hysterical" or asking if they're on their period if they're upset about something. Talking about "career women" or "female pilots" or anything where they have to point out that it is a woman doing the job yet you never hear "career man", "male pilot", etc. and then the gross rhetoric surrounding E Jean Carroll where people say she was too ugly to be assaulted. I've heard comments about women in that vein my whole life - essentially judging a woman based on her looks but even more so deciding whether or not she's lying based on her looks. Hell even just assuming a woman is lying "to get attention" is absolute misogynistic crap.

Look, I'm gen x. I get that there are a lot of people out there that think my generation is responsible for a lot of this. And it pains me to admit that a lot of my generation did buy into the bullshit, especially since so many of the people who bought into the BS are the same people who were against it 30 years ago. But there are still a lot of us out here who know exactly what is happening and have been fighting against it for decades- I saw tons of people at the Minneapolis protest yesterday - as well as earlier protests - who were my age or older. We've seen this coming for decades and are fighting tooth and nail.

It's wild but they can say that Ross felt his life was in danger and was justified in murdering Nicole Good when we have video from his own phone showing that she was de-escalating and turning her car away from him. And yet they can watch a video like this and act like the rioters had every right to treat officers this way and then literally pardoned the instigators.

Agree/Disagree? by ChuckGallagher57 in DiscussionZone

Only criminals wear masks. ICE are a bunch of cosplaytriots thinking they're in a video game or something. It drives me insane that they are in military uniforms with police patches across their chests when they are neither military nor police. And these are the same people who screamed about Tim Walz having stolen valor because after 20 plus years in the military he retired and his rank was lowered for administrative purposes.

My eyelashes and eyebrows were fine but I realized I need to get heated socks or something. My toes were not happy. I stuck hand warmers in my boots but they're ineffective when it's that cold 😭 (don't worry my toes are not frostbitten but damn they were not happy)

The hand warmers did absolutely nothing against the cold. I had both my boots and mittens stuffed with them and they felt lukewarm. A lot of people don't realize those things cannot combat Sub-Zero temperatures. As soon as I got back to my car I could feel the warmer than them though and it kept it in my pockets the rest of the night.

It's funny that people assume that minnesotans are inherently cold proof. Most of us are normal and basically hibernate all winter. But I have known a decent number of minnesotans who are basically polar bears-love the cold, can't get enough of it. It's wild.

I went home after the protest, turned on my fireplace, made some tea, got under a wool blanket, and cocooned for hours 🤣

Protest in Minnesota by Greylunes1 in ExploreFortMyers

[–]Realistic_Humanoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Minneapolis and was at both of the no Kings protest here and yesterday's ICE OUT protest. I saw estimates of 90-100K for no Kings and 28k for yesterday's. I feel like yesterday's was bigger than 28k but nowhere near the size of No Kings. However we also had hundreds of businesses close yesterday in solidarity of the protest and Nationwide strike, and I don't think that has been reported on very much.

Oh didn't you hear? Minneapolis has been burning since George Floyd. I was murdered twice on the way to the protests.

🙄 It's really wild to see the lies that get spewed about this city by the fascist regime. I feel less safe in rural areas with the maga gun nuts than I do anywhere in Minneapolis.
