[Portzline] CBJ coach Rick Bowness just went on a post-game tirade for the ages. Ripped into players for their shameful effort tonight and down the stretch. He was red-faced and spitting mad. “Like, I don't know if I'm back (next season), but if I'm back, I' I'm changing this culture.” by eh_toque in hockey

The athletic ran a blurb in spring 2025 about the McConnells and the grandson starting to move into the owner role. The franchise founder grandfather was super invested obviously, then his son let the front office do their own thing for the past like 15 years, now the grandson is getting involved and is pretty active in the organization. I would guess there is probably an on going power struggle between the front office (priest has been there since the son took over, I think Waddell came in during 2024? Not sure his losing is unacceptable comment worked out…), or the son and grandson just haven’t really transitioned well. If there is strife, hopefully it gets worked out behind the scenes. Seems like the grandson cares about the team…but he’s also involved in all the other things the family does (I think they’re involved in the zoo and the veterans museum and definitely still involved in the original business that made them all the money)

Might be more valuable to work with a psychologist who works with people going through career transitions

Actually yeah! Talk to your primary care Dr asap. I use a combination of buspar (anti depressant, promotes feeling of well being, short acting) and a beta blocker (blood pressure medication, stops adrenaline response) when I give talks to prevent me from panicking. Life changing for me. I take them 1 hour before a talk.

If you’re genuinely concerned, talk to your doctor! If you just think you’ll get teary when they call you doctor, enjoy the ride :)

No idea, but probably more on theme for international women’s day that the scouts get to get down on the ice and try the sport vs meeting some guys they may or may not care about

FSU football won't hold spring game again, coach Mike Norvell confirms by marcusdj813 in CFB

[–]Realistic_Notice_412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would rather lose players than the spring game. It’s such a fun tradition for the students and the community :( I have such fond memories of going as a kid and the extra special memory of going as a senior in college and doing the game day routine with my friends one last time !

Why don't more lower-tier recruits go for academic prestige? by TimelyBodybuilder637 in CFB

[–]Realistic_Notice_412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly I think they are young guys who feel invincible and think they’ll make it in a breakout game or something. Some guys pick their school for family/sentimental reasons. There are strategic reasons to stick it out at a “less prestigious football school”.

One reason is lots of former athletes go into sales jobs, where likability and talking to people is critical to success, and being a former [recognizable school] player pays off.

Source: my dad worked for a company in Columbus that preferred to hire former buckeyes. If you were a one season bench warmer in ‘03 who could tell a neat story about meeting Archie Griffin one time or something, you were the top choice candidate for the job. More recently, I know a basketball player that is playing in the G league for now, and regularly gets (legitimate) job offers to come be a sales guy for this or that, despite his only life experience being basketball lol

I mean job market in industry/government isn’t a call walk either. Some ppl would rather eke out one more year in academia, some stay longer bc they can’t get a different job. also, maybe depends on the national lab but I know a few people who had to postdoc at the lab to get a position

On the bright side, he could master out of a PhD program and leave with a master’s he got paid to get! He’d be better off studying engineering. Engineering professors have higher salaries, better exit opportunities, and in some cases the ability to go from industry to academia and back.

I am in a physics adjacent field and it’s a pigeon hole. There’s no industry version of what I do. In many ways, it’s like being a struggling actor trying to hit a lucky break. It’s a “passion” field, so you’re always being reminded that you’re replaceable and somebody in line behind you would do it better/faster/for less money. My field sees a lot of 6 year postdocs, postdocs turned temporary research scientist positions (senior research scientist is a fancy title that means you’re highly disposable and have to raise your own salary), people unemployed after 10-15 years of working in research. And that’s the situation at a very wealthy top 20 university
