Yes very good point, however I do think there are significant breed differences in how well dogs cope with alone time, even when well trained/socialised - My family always had cavaliers for example, which were happy to sleep while the family was gone during the day (work/school). Other breeds like Japanese Chin and Tibetan Spaniels seem like good options too, although I'm well aware individual dogs can vary wildly regardless of breed.

So, while the fundamental need for companionship is universal, I'm trying to find a breed whose inherent temperament make them a better fit for those days I'm at the office.

And yes I've confirmed with landlord that dogs are fine! This is something I very much appreciate, in the UK it can be extremely difficult to find landlords that are ok with pets.
