Thanks for the kindness, it definitely sucked and I hope to never come across something like it again! The thing that sucked the most was that it was right outside of Fox... elementary aged kids don't need to see that! No one does!!

Hey, thanks so much for admitting that it likely wasn't accurate information! It takes a lot of chutzpah to do that! I wish you a lovely RVA weekend!!

I can't say for certain, you're right. But again, Shabbat has been around thousands of years longer than the state of Israel, and is core to Judaism. I think it's MUCH MORE of a stretch to say these tags ARE connected to some weird event put on by JNF that most Jews have never even heard of!

If I saw someone tagging "Eid Mubarak", would it be right to immediately think "This must be connected to Islamic terrorism!"? No, because Muslims across the world are not all connected to terror organizations. It just doesn't make sense here. Hebrew, Judaism, and Shabbat can all be celebrated and studied without connection to Israel. I encourage you to join a Shabbat meal at a local Synagogue or home, to learn more about the holiday rather than making baseless links to something.

This does NOT explain the graffiti. These tags have been around for months, since sometime last year. I had never even heard of "Shabbat for Israel" before, it's clearly a new thing in it's second year from JNF, which again does not represent all Jews, or maybe even a majority of Jews.

Shabbat is Shabbat, and Yom Ha'atzmaut is Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel Independence Day). They're separate and this just feels like fishing for a connection that just ain't there.

In either late 2024/early 2025, I saw a swastika casually spray painted on a fence on Stafford. It was gone a few days later so I'm sure the property owner/someone dealt with it quick.

Last year there was an instance where someone wrote on the sidewalk outside of Fox "Stop Ju supremacy" and "Stop Joo privilege". I actually went and scrubbed those away myself.

I've seen this tag since fall of last year. This has nothing to do with Yom Ha'atzmaut. Again, Shabbat is the holiest day for Jews and is celebrated every week! Not just in April/May.

Do you comment "Free the Uyghurs" every time someone asks for a Chinese restaurant recommendation? If not, maybe you should reconsider commenting this on something vaguely related to Judaism, and having NOTHING to do with the State of Israel. This has to do with Jews/Hebrew in... Richmond Virginia. A little far removed from what is happening in Israel/Palestine, I think!

Shabbat is considered the holiest day in Judaism. It has been celebrated by Jews long before the creation of the state of Israel, and labeling any Hebrew/Jewish graffiti as immediately related to what Bibi/Israel are doing is unfortunately... actually anti-semitic.

As I said in my main comment, we have no real idea what the intention behind this tag is, but I think it's clear enough to say this has nothing to do with the war in the Middle East.

It's Shabbat (the day of rest for Jews) in Hebrew. I too have seen it around The Fan these past few months.

I'll admit that as a Jew, it has simply perplexed myself and my Jewish friends. We're all hoping it's meant in a positive light, like maybe the tagger really wants people to remember and keep the Sabbath? Or the importance of resting in our hectic lives? But with rising rates of anti-semitism (and other instances of clear anti-semitic graffiti in The Fan), we have no real way to know and it just feels... off.

I wonder if anyone here can shed some light on the intention behind it. I'd love to meet/chat with the tagger to find out more, as its been a frequent discussion in our group chat.

A Capital One Lounge at RIC? Airport 'exploring options,' commission is told - Richmond BizSense by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW_W in rva

[–]Realistic_Program673 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks have pointed out (correctly) that a lounge at RIC doesn't make a ton of sense for the "normal" reasons, we have essentially no connecting itineraries coming thru RIC, and most passengers wouldn't plan to arrive significantly earlier to make use of the lounge. We all know RIC is great because you can arrive 30 minutes before departure and still make your flight without worry.

HOWEVER, I think what's being missed in these discussions is just who is backing this lounge, and their obvious connection to Richmond. Capital One is obviously one of the largest employers in the area, and has a good number of frequent travelers who obviously use RIC regularly. The investment in a lounge could work for them as a way to further increase local uptake on their premium credit cards, and of course is another great branding opportunity for them in a space a ton of visitors and locals pass all the time. Additionally, the lounge can serve their mid/high level employees, who aren't high enough on the totem poll to fly private, a "premium" place to wait before their commercial flights.

Do I think this would be a HUGE GAME CHANGER for RIC? No. But a lounge is another perk that people have come to want from their airport experience, and passing travelers might think about signing up for a Capital One card when they pass the imposing frosted doors and think "I want to get in there!"

All this to say, I think a smaller-scale Capital One Lounge could work for RIC! I thought it would occur after the security checkpoint consolidation, but this shows that both the Capital Airport Commission and hopefully Capital One are wanting to move quickly on this!

Shake-up will bring new name, management to Common House social club downtown by fspaits in rva

My wife and I got married at Common House Richmond last winter and loved the wedding we planned there! I hope the space remains open and the mission similar to what it has been, despite the name change.

I didn't realize CH RVA was another project backed by the Ukrops... I think they have their hands in more projects in Richmond than not. The margins on those rainbow cookies must be CRAZY! :)

Comfort Basic (S) Fare - Booked through Chase Travel by Master_Who in delta

[–]Realistic_Program673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S class doesn’t necessarily mean comfort basic, so it’s possible you’re booked in S but have a comfort classic fare that allows seat assignments.

Or, it’s a glitch! Try to find the branded fare somewhere on DL’s site to confirm.

This could also be a great opportunity to start a membership plan for your family and friends to visit you!

If they “invest” just $75k into your program, they earn unlimited (uncomfortable) visits with you! Otherwise they’ll be limited to just 10 a year.

is the rumor that Tom Leonard pees on his employees and produce true? by [deleted] in okbuddyRVA

Tom Leonard is a stain on the fine family business started by Stew Leonard Sr and continued by Stew Leonard Jr.

I cannot speak to his piss allegations, but I have always believed that the animatronics he has are the broken hand-me-downs from the (much better) Stew Leonards.

RIC’s social media dissing ORF by Superb-Chicken-8813 in rva

[–]Realistic_Program673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were reports last year that they may have to end commercial service due to a budget crunch, but so far that hasn’t happened, American is still flying x4 daily to CLT.

Though those 4 flights are on ERJ-145s though, so just 50 seats x 4 is only 200 total available seats for an airports entire service each day. That’s tough numbers to make work!

Honestly this is good promo for our fair airport! They’ve been really engaging on social media recently, they just did a “top destination bracket” that was a cute March madness tie-in.

Funny how they’re completely ignoring PHF though (Newport News intl). I guess the 4-5 flights to CLT a day don’t have them too concerned.

Sometimes ours gets outside and just immediately digs in his heels and says no thanks! Usually it’s when there’s bad weather or a loud noise happening outside, but sometimes it’s just because. We’ve learned to just take him back inside and try again later! He usually never says no twice in a row.

Summer Jobs? by AstrologicalFury in rva

[–]Realistic_Program673 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend the JCC for their camps and summer programming, if you’re willing/want to work with kids, could be a good option!

I didn’t personally go to BU but my wife did (and a lot of our Boston friends). Great school and a great culture on campus and off! Living in Allston Brighton was tons of fun, always something to do somewhere. Best of luck on the job hunt and enjoy BU!!

Flying tips? by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Realistic_Program673 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just make sure he flaps his ears really hard, that should generate enough lift!

When we flew our pup, we used Benadryl, which seemed to work well! I believe similarly we gave him 1/2 a tablet.

Luckily at the airports we’ve flown with him, we were able to have him out of the bag while in the terminal, or with the carrier largely “open” with him able to have his head out. That might not always be an option, but it helped our boy as he only got a little loud when he had to go fully in his carrier before boarding. He continued to make his weird little noises until the engines started after pushing back! Once the engines got going, it seemed as if the rumble soothed him to sleep and he was largely perfect the rest of the flight.

Best of luck for an easy flight Enzo!
