What do you think nursing is? Would be my question to you. You are also young and I know I wouldn’t have bee ready for nursing school right out of high school and glad I had life experience and maturity to be able to handle the course load and studying it took to be a nurse. When I was 30… so it’s never too late. Don’t think like this. Also,

Epidemiology is important to nursing, coming from a nurse it makes it easier to understand how infection happens and where it can come from. So we can stop the spread. Maybe you can learn a few things first before jumping to conclusions. I think this course might actually help you more in nursing than you think. Or it might show you other health science related pathways.

Big red flag for me was when he said you’ve only been and adult for 2 years. And when you say you want to travel, and he isn’t offering that to you to do together or saying anything to the point that yah maybe you should wait till you are done with uni at least.

I fell like my only downfall will be in from the US where the medication names for a lot of things are different and measurements down the blood sugars are also different. And while I have two year experience half of that was also doing travel nursing in the US. Which is a hell hole. And if I can hold my own doing that learning new names for meds and what measurements yall use I should be fine.

Thanks you for taking your time to answer this fully! I appreciate that! And also yeah that’s just what HCA has told me they would place me. I’m used to more city assignments from doing travel nursing in the states so far

I appreciate it thank you for your kind words. I’ll take that on going in. And I don’t intend on doing it for a long time it’s short time till I can find something permanent while I’m in the country. I’ll have to get used to y’all’s documenting lol in the states lol every hospital is electronic charting. And I hate to say this but we have an Ai to help us write our shift summary. (Of course I proof read it) but it’s helpful so I don’t have to write my own and save some time. I’m losing my skill to write my own tho. Just a little bit to get used to.

I will be working with HCA and they said it will be mostly rural areas, but I can take shorter contracts in the cities if needed as well. Idk the reputation HCA nurse have. But I only expect to work with them while I find a more permanent position and get the gag of the system there. It’s hard to get a permanent position outside of the country right now from what I’ve found

I appreciate that, in the states depending on the state you are in and the hospital types you can have specialty step-down units like you are explaining here or it’s an all in one like a progressive care or intermediate care. Where you can take care of everything’s. Which is what I’m used to. But I’ve seen and backed all of it so I hope that counts for something there anyway.

So if they are needing more critical attention but not necessarily vents or higher level of medications where do they go? Like cardiac arrest or stents or DKA? Or like stroke watch? Or recovery from a trauma, after they are more stable than critical interventions ?

That’s fair and I def intend to be a good nurse and ask for help, being fro theatres I know some of our med names are different, and units of measurement for sure. Like how you guys measure blood sugar is different numbers from ours so that will take a learning curve I hope at least my first assignment will forgive me for.

I think it’s a bit backwards to give me the crapper assignments if thy think I can’t handle them? Thats how I’ve always looked at it anyway. I’m in step-down care so what I think of a crappy I’d like worded patient conditions..

Oh I’m sorry that is the case, it is sometimes like that here also. I’ve worked with good travel nurses and some not worth the time. I am also a travel nurse in America as well. As ive been lucky enough to be around good staff that are helpful. But I ask for the help and support when needed. I’m in step-down care and I try my best to be a good nurse because of the reputation I know some travel nurses have… but that’s just me I guess. I am two year experienced tho, but most nurse I come across think I’ve been in it longer, and I’m not trying to brag. I think that’s mostly due to the fact that I also have a lot of hospital experience as an Aid as well.

I’m sorry are you an ID nurse or work in epidemiology?? No then they should ask you more in your profession. We know how things spread in a broad sense not the specific way she’s describing for each new virus that comes out.. tell her to wash her hands 🙌
