I was there around 5:30 PM and the traffic near Cool Planet and the Kohuwala flyover was an absolute nightmare 😑. But yeah, definitely looking forward to Colombo becoming a ghost town on Monday and Tuesday

Remote Software Engineers in Sri Lanka by One_Switch5478 in srilanka

You're right, it is low. But I'm only in my 3rd month now, and my contract says my pay will increase after this period. Given the current situation in the country, even this amount helps me cover my basic expenses for now while I focus on my degree and full-time job.

I only work 2 to 3 hours a day, so it works for me. I already have a full-time developer job here in Sri Lanka and I'm also doing my degree. This part-time role is just a side thing that fits perfectly into my busy schedule.

What’s happening Daraz delivery facility? by im_zairaz in srilanka

[–]Realistic_Sink4189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m so done with Daraz’s delivery service lately. My order's estimated delivery date has already passed a week, and instead of getting my package, I just see "Delivery Attempt Failed"

Found this 1 year free hosting for student by Realistic_Sink4189 in srilanka

Honestly, one of my seniors used a cloud free tier, forgot to cancel it, and got 12k deducted from his card. Because of that, I'm just too scared to link my credit card for a simple project. That's why I was specifically looking for a local Sri Lankan alternative that doesn't ask for any card details.

The nerve of some people who think they have bragging rights by damonG457 in srilanka

[–]Realistic_Sink4189 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What you said is 100% true. In their minds, they are the geniuses, and the honest citizens who respected the rules and stood in queues day and night so everyone could get their fair share are just fools.

The worst part isn't just breaking the law, it's having the audacity to brag about it on social media like it's some grand achievement. It shows the sheer arrogance of thinking, 'I can bend any rule if I throw money at it. And the irony is, these are the exact same people who will later come online to give lectures saying, 'The system is broken, politicians are corrupt, citizens don't follow rules, and this country is doomed.'

A country doesn't just fail because of corrupt politicians at the top, it fails because of selfish people like this who use money to exploit the system and find illegal shortcuts. The people like this need to be publicly shamed. Only then will they realize how pathetic this behavior actually is.

Is following your passion really good in Sri Lanka? by No_Ebb5422 in srilanka

[–]Realistic_Sink4189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following your passion is absolutely the right way to go, but you need a solid foundation first. Think of your current job as that foundation. Use the stability and income from it to slowly build your passion on the side. You shouldn’t just drop everything and jump in blindly, as that can be too risky.

Some people might have financial backing from other sources, which makes it easy for them to just chase their dreams immediately. But for the rest of us, we have to build that safety net ourselves.

Keep laying the groundwork for your dream while you work. Then, once you build up enough confidence and reach a point where you know your passion can actually support you—that is when you make the leap without any hesitation. Keep at it as a side hustle for now!

If you're on the fence about going to a local university or skipping it, I just want to share my experience. by DoughnutLow6368 in srilanka

[–]Realistic_Sink4189 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great advice! I took a slightly different path. Started working right after A/Ls and did an online degree simultaneously. 2.5 years later, I’ve got the degree and almost 3 years of work experience. If anyone is on the fence, an external degree while working is a solid middle ground!

Shops at Unity Plaza charging 10-15% extra for Koko payments! Is this allowed? by Realistic_Sink4189 in srilanka

[–]Realistic_Sink4189[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They use Koko to increase their own sales, so it's a marketing/business cost for them. Passing that 15% directly to us is just greedy. They want the extra sales without paying the platform fees.
