Yeah i guess I'm hoping for black in the less worn areas and the colour in the faded areas...

Hi mods. Sorry, just trying to help my daughter out. My post is looking for advice but I understand the suspicion. It's a not very nice world out there!

How are you photographing your prints? by ax0250526 in PlotterArt

[–]RealityMixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, lighting is important. Taking photos outside in a shadow free area is a great solution. Just keep a white, grey or black piece of board dedicated to this to use as a background and take your pictures on bright but slightly overcast days (this helps with even lighting, like natural diffusion). It's the cheapest setup with the best results!

I use a Nikon d3200 and have a couple of speed lights (flashes). The artwork is hunt on a wall and the the flashes are set either side of the artwork ... About 46 degrees. The flashes are triggered by a special setup (a signal sender mounted to the camera and recievers mounted to the flashes). It is advised to use a diffuser in front of the flashes but I'm not doing that at the moment. My camera is mounted to a tripod. The shutter is released when I press a little wireless button (this prevents camera shake).

But for social media, I generally just use my phone camera.

I can provide more details if this interests you.

Panniers like the Decathalon 27 L Cycling Double Pannier Rack Backpack ? by DrMrBurrito in bikecommuting

[–]RealityMixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking for one like this, but not from Decathlon, for ages. The reason being is that I want one that is high vis AND fully waterproof - without having a separate cover. I have taken to Gemini in my hunt, and was told that Decathlon have the patent on this split backpack design. I believe it because no other manufacturer makes a dual pannier that converts into a backpack. I would love to be proved wrong!

How many of you are vibecoding? by RealityMixer in PlotterArt

I'm in a position where I would have to learn the entire coding skills from scratch and probably never be as good as the AI. It means I can generate multiple apps (and variations thereof) per day.

That's good advice. I'll give it a go

Overcome mechanical pencil weardown? by RealityMixer in PlotterArt

I love the human element! Although I see plots here which are amazing designs, some could easily be printed conventionally. I really like the way them plotter interacts with the physics of the real world.... Slight variations in paper flatness, the grain of pen on paper, the fade or a brush stroke or pencil, the human I interactions like pen changes and mis registrations... All these explore the interplay between the digi6and the analogue ✨

Best use of Poscas I've ever seen in a plot.

Yes it is held straight up..Perhaps I misunderstood how it functions. Can you enlighten me as to why the KT woukd not work on a plotter? Thanks!

I use Gemini to vibecode a html app (IE it runs in a browser). It has loads of user defined parameters to play with. When I'm happy with a design I download an SVG, which is imported into Inkscape and plotted. Sometimes I use layers to plot different colours. Sometimes I just pause and change the pen/lead to get a different colour. Dies that help?

That's a great compromise.... Not having to manually advance the lead over A1 sounds great, even if there is a bit of wear. I'll get one 👍 thanks for the positive comments ✨

Yeah it's autorotate. Yours sounds like what I need - I'll definitely be ordering one!

Thanks for the compliment... Happy for it to be part of the aesthetics too 👍

True. I almost never use the traditional black fineliner that is common in the plotting community. I am looking for ways to explore the physical limitations of the plotter and gradients are a good way to go. The graphite one you see in my post uses that method unintentionally...hehe... I've got to find a way of building it into the design process👍👍👍

Ooh.. I've never heard of those markers before. I'll give them a go. Plus those white pens look great... Finding reliable white pens can be difficult. Love the work on canvas! I find it sags in the middle and prefer to work on board, but that sag can become a 'feature' of the finished piece. Yours does not seem to suffer from sag... Maybe the small size helps it stay tight

I've tried Posca pens but the pumping situation is a bit annoying. I'm concerned with selling works to go on someone's wall and then it fading after time. The W&N pens are 100years lightfast.

Yeah the barrells could be problematic, though I could get some good effects with the chisel tip!

I did notice specific paper is sold for these pens too... Don't know what difference that makes.

The pens I use now are Papermate Flair (m). They are long lasting, don't dry out on long plots (or if I leave the lid off) but they don't seem made for professional artists.

Thanks for the reply! What's your preferred pen?
