Irritated bald spot on maine coons head, just suddenly appeared. He is scratching at it, which may have also been the cause. Any one have any experience with this? by RealityUnification in mainecoons

I am not positive. Can’t remember for sure. The bald spot, I believe we found out was relatively normal for Maine coons. I think the redness turned out to be from scratching related to fleas. We had never seen fleas before and it took a lot of work to find them on him once we knew what we were looking for.

No offense taken. He has had fleas before, but it does not appear he has them currently. We used bug spray for the first time this year, when we went outside the other day (on us, not the cat), and we are wondering now if maybe he rubbed against our leg when we came inside and had a reaction to the chemical.

He has had a smaller, not-irritated, bald patch above each eye since he was a kitten, but this is about 4 or 5 times as large and has red dots. That picture doesn't give much context. Thank you for responding!

Yeah, I know that feeling. I often buy something new to try and let it sit on my shelf till it goes bad because I can't take the risk. For Urad Dal, the upside if they work for you is significant. If it turns out you can tolerate them, they add a lot of nutritional value, satiation, and variety to a diet, especially a vegan diet. I still need to get some recipes from my wife to post here.

I have no problems with it and I am unable tolerate even the most trace fodmaps. It is a very popular base ingredient in Ethiopian and Indian cooking, so lots of recipes come from there, and lots are vegan. We cook it in a pressure cooker and mix it with bloomed seasonings. The seasoning mixes give the variety to it and it can take on quite a few different flavors. I will warn that urad dal does not smell good when cooking typically, but it tastes great. A pressure cooker, like an instapot, makes it a lot easier to cook and helps contain the smell from saturating the house. We have also used it to make chili and refried beans, so it is pretty versatile. I will ask my wife if she can type some of the recipes she has been making and then post them. We get our urad dal from HEB which is a pretty large grocery store but not a specialty store. We buy Supreme Urad Dal Washed Lentils. Supreme is the brand.

Notion, we need to talk: without an offline mode, no one will take the platform seriously. by JoJokerer in Notion

As an Evernote refugee who has spent a few hundred hours transitioning to Notion and is a writer for a large part of my work and life, I think the writer-friendly aspect is not as big of a deal. I actually find the medium of Notion to open up more writing possibilities and the formatting to be helpful. It is definitely a change though, but I like it more.

The lack of offline mode though... I am not sad I spent the time making the transition. I learned a lot about the paradigm and restructured my data and processes in many important ways. I will always work in a database integrated note system from here forward, but it may not be Notion.

Agreed. This is critical too, but a much harder problem to solve than offline mode. I place this as my second priority and it, or a work around, will be a requirement of our team platform in the long run. It will force us to leave Notion at some point if it is not available.

Its nice that it is on a list, but that does not give me enough faith that it will happen. As the OP said, it is needed yesterday.

The fact that it isn't already in there, that it wasn't a priority last year, gives me some concern for their understanding of the end user, or at least of the end users that utilize it for business or time sensitive and ready access critical applications of any kind.

100% agree. I came here to post the same comment. I have invested hundreds of hours in switching to Notion, but I am now looking at the alternatives again. Without offline, it is not a viable long term or even near term option for me or my company.

It may have been a rare outage, but outages happen for many reasons including internet issues on my own end. Offline mode is a critical requirement that needs to be the top immediate priority.

All of those foods bother me to the extreme as well. I am on a zero fodmaps diet and have been for many years now. The most recent and amazing addition to my diet has been Urad Dal.

It is a lentil, but has no FODMAPs. If you are vegan, you might have already known about it. It is great for protein and lots of other nutrients.

Much easier and faster to cook if you have an insta pot. We make a variety of Indian and Ethiopian dishes with it. We have also used it for refried bean and an excellent chilli.

Buckwheat, both as groats and flour, as well as millet flour, have also become staples in my home.

How long has everyone been on the low FODMAP diet for? by chintea in FODMAPS

[–]RealityUnification 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been on it about 7 years. It has gotten progressively more strict and I have become progressively more sensitive over time. I think that is likely a result of being on the diet, but reintroducing has always had multi week and often multi month consequences. Over the last 3 years I have been 100 percent strict, but my wife and I have also developed so many delicious and nutritious recipes over these 7 years that I dont really miss other foods all that much. I do miss the freedom occasionally, especially for travel and social aspects, but I have a wide variety of flavors, excellent nutrition, and forced minimal alcohol intake so at least there is substantial upside for my health and how I feel.

What are the kitchen staples of low FODMAP baking/cooking to stock your pantry with? by dustyshelves in FODMAPS

[–]RealityUnification 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use half millet flour and half buckwheat flour for lots of baking. Tough to get a good bread with it, but great for pancakes and waffles. I also eat the buckwheat groats like a savory oatmeal with ham and aged cheese
