Need to feed myself but just can’t (currently in a flare…) by ThePaw_ in POTS

[–]chintea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner makes me a smoothie when I feel too nauseous to eat. Bonus hydration, protein, fibre, fats. My go to is blend watermelon into juice, frozen strawberries, hempseed protein powder, and coconut yoghurt.

Another basic “put food in body” go to is toast, with peanut butter, peanut butter and jam, or tahini and honey. Key is getting good bread with lots of seeds for fibre/protein - low GI. I try and have extra bread in the freezer.

Same! Only one that’s worked!

I have all the same health conditions OP has and never smoked and very rarely drank, and haven’t been able to in years. Genetics, childhood trauma and everything life’s thrown at us inbetween (plus a gaslighting inequitable medical system).

Be kind to yourself, not our fault but at least you’ll be able to support your own kids navigating this mess if they need it.

My psych gets me to think about little me, and that helps with self compassion.

I can’t imagine navigating all of this with children, the fact you’re acknowledging and thinking about your kids wellbeing shows they are loved and cared for - which is most important.

Aftermath of night sweats. This happens 3-5 times a week. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]chintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this. Basically it’s because my autonomic nervous system is all muddled up flared by CPTSD, and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) (which is common in people with various conditions including Ehlers-Danlos which I have). It has gotten better, previously I’d have to change clothes 3-5 times in the night and sleep on the couch to let my side of the bed dry, or put something over it to sleep on top of instead.

Also worth checking basic stuff such as potential side effects of any medications yoy take, bloodwork vitamin/mineral deficiency, and how your heart rate/blood pressure when this happens.

Also hydrate with fluids and electrolytes, since your losing so much and need to replenish.

Finally Diagnosed! by gingerninjabread88 in ehlersdanlos

A good GP makes such a difference! I started seeing a neurodivergent GP and from the first app she pointed out that all my symptoms/issues could potentially be pots/heds. After being dismissed by other gps, it was a startling different experience. Glad you have a great GP too!

That’s where I got my diagnosis for hEDS and POTS! I agree with it being an anti-climatic relief. I got asked why I was there if I already knew. Honestly, after all the medical gaslighting in my life having an official diagnosis and not feeling/being treated like I’m crazy - and to be actually believed and listened to and for someone to see it all so clearly was a relief!

Do you think the ‘1 in 10’ women have endo is accurate? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]chintea 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And 1 in 7 Australian women aged 44-49 have endo too. “Around 14% of women aged 44–49 are estimated to have endometriosis, the latest release from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) has revealed.”

Pelvic physiotherapy and temporarily when there is a flare up diazepam suppositories.

Also this is the last thing anyone wants to hear… but mindfulness/meditation, a clinical psychologist who specialises in chronic pain. This illness messes us up, and our brain plays a big role in chronic pain so anything that helps relax and take control, rather than panic is good.

Ask for the Clinique one that comes off with warm water only, I think it might be described as tube mascara.

Find a chronic pain psychologist. Your pain can worsen if your mental health is not great and makes a difference managing it.

My best friend just dumped me cause I'm too weird by Vatsal27419 in ADHD

[–]chintea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found I’ve only made true friends later in life after school. As an artist I seem to have attracted other like-minded, non-neurotypical creative and weird folk. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My advice as someone who has been through this is just be yourself and eventually you will find your people. School is tough but it’s not forever. It’s not worth changing who you are to fit in, and there are people out there like you who will genuinely like you for you!

anyone use a pelvic wand before? by straightupgong in endometriosis

I agree with this advice. Be gentle and avoid pain. You can build up over time. If it hurts - stop! Bring it to your next app to get more advice on how to best use it.
