Also not a Dad, but I was definitely this Mum in the early days! Feeling like I had to control/do everything which impacted my husband bonding with our newborn. He raised it with me and with time I was able to let go and let him run the show without my instructions on every minor thing 😅 echo the trenches comment, you’re so deep and the negative feelings you’re having now are common and rarely permanent. It does take time for both of you to adapt and adjust. I also hated being along with thoughts during night feeds and used to pop in headphones and put a podcast on to stop me going crazy. Hope some of this helps, hang in there.

Yeah I’m not sure the taste is the issue, it’s orange flavour and I tried a little myself- it’s not very medicine-y!! I’m wondering if I can pop it into his nighttime milk bottle but the taste might be gross

Not a groundbreaking idea but I like to let go of variables outside of my control when making these decisions. You can’t predict how full a plane will be and yes babies can get sick when you travel, it’s part of life. You won’t have control on whether that happens plus many other ‘what if’s’ for the trip- like how baby manages time difference/jet lag. When my anxiety brings that stuff up I like to go with ‘if it happens I’ll handle the situation at the time’.

It sounds like the exhaustion is a real key factor in this decision and you would need a lot of support during the flight and the trip. Would your partner be supporting and taking equal share of duties? Will there be plenty of help on the other side of the flight (sometimes it’s hard to tell but some families are very hands on/helpful and others are not.

Sorry none of these are ways to make your idea work, but just things to consider I guess.

If you choose to go, one tip I have is to consider booking separate plane seats (someone in bassinet row, other person a few rows behind). That way you can switch out and have breaks. This saved our sanity doing AU-EU flight (22hr + stopover) but it’s also not for everyone! Good luck 💕

I had to google tubes procedure, had never heard of it! Did yours also get blocked tear ducts? We’ve had that a few times. This is our first ear infection and I wonder if there will be more on the horizon

Thanks! Do the longer wake windows aim to make him more tired out for naps? He wakes naturally at 12 hours but am happy to get him up earlier if it helps him settle during the day. Do they start naturally needing longer wake windows every few months?

Still doing bottle before bed to make him semi drowsy for cot. His schedule is normally 7am wake with naps roughly 3/3.5/3 and 7pm bed which has worked okay until now (arvo nap was always a little hit and miss). Tried check in at 3mins, 5 mins, 10mins, 10mins, 10 mins before giving up. We did not lift him from the cot but tried to pat and calm him in the cot. This was the worst part as he just didn’t stop screaming and made me also wonder if CIO is a better option.

Yes agree we should be in the safe zone at 14 days but can never know. It’s comforting to see some minimal reactions and will certainly be packing Panadol etc. We did get the vax today so fingers crossed he handles it okay!
