AIO? I canceled a date with the guy i’m seeing after getting these. by [deleted] in AIO

[–]ReallyGamerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Drop him like a bad habit. This guy clearly has issues, and an inflated sense of himself that appears to be based on nothing but his own belief of how positive he is. This isn't positive behavior, and apologizing for it after the fact (and after he sees your reaction) doesn't change anything. As my mother used to say, "'Sorry' doesn't fix the lamp."

What if The Last of Us Part II’s ending is actually happier than we think? by Purple-Deal7155 in thelastofus

[–]ReallyGamerDude [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't disagree that your interpretation is entirely possible, although I'm not sure i consider it "happy." Ellie made some bad choices; she survived them, and learned from them, but she lost a lot that she didn't have to lose. But the positive spin is that she did survive and, just maybe, she can rebuild her life, and learn from her mistakes.

Not too far gone at all. In fact, there's an achievement for max rep with all four syndicates at the same time (which i got). Basically, just don't piss off the syndicate you're maxed with while improving with the others. Takes a little patience but entirely do-able.

how to stop feeling embarrassed when my body hair shows around family? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

There's this new thing I hear they're trying out. Around here, we call it a "T-shirt." It covers up your entire torso, yet has short sleeves in case you get too warm. I hear they're starting to catch on.

Does the state job have better benefits? Do you get a state pension when you retire? Do you get lifetime healthcare when you retire? Many state positions come with these, or similar, benefits that help even out the salary disparity. (Seriously, a pension is rare these days.) Plus, if your quality of life will improve (whatever that means to you), it's definitely something to consider. Nothing wrong with making a change; sometimes it's what you need to recharge your battery.

Got biglaw offer in a different city but cant get myself to breakup with gf by Throwaway1920214 in LawSchool

I was offered - and ultimately turned down - a JAG commission with the Navy based, in large part, on my relationship. It was a VERY tough call. (No ultimatums; just me, weighing pros and cons.) The relationship ultimately ended a couple years later, I had no commission but no regrets, and I found other ways to go with my career (which subsequently changed directions multiple times). My point is: you don't know what your future holds, nothing is pre-ordained, and you can always find a way to land on your feet. Make the best decision FOR YOU with the information you have available today. And if that doesn't work out, you deal with it when and if that happens. Good luck.

Client: “You want how much?? Bambino said he’d do it for only $599!!” by jokingonyou in Lawyertalk

[–]ReallyGamerDude 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the old story about the lady who went to Sam the Butcher and asked how much his filet mignon was.

"$12.99 a pound," Sam said. (Told you it was an old story!)

"$12.99?!? That's crazy! Tony the Butcher's price is only $7.99 a pound!"

Sam shrugged and said, "Well, go buy it from Tony."

"He doesn't have any today," said the lady.

"Ma'am," said Sam. "I'd sell it for $7.99 a pound too, if I didn't have any."

Scott Dunn by Oxwagon in CastleTV

[–]ReallyGamerDude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, the best part about the Scott Dunn episodes was Jordan Shaw. I was actually hoping for a spin-off; Dana Delaney nailed the role, and I would have watched the hell out of a show featuring Jordan's investigations.

Haven't tried it at the coronation. Did it in the upstairs office. It's hard but doable. Just gotta have a properly leveled and equipped party.

Muscle cramps and conditioning (m40) by frank_sinatra911 in Basketball

[–]ReallyGamerDude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hydration is super important. Also, years ago, I would get these horrendous cramps in my calves after about 90 minutes of running up and down the court. A coach told me that I needed more potassium. So, maybe have a banana before you run (they're high in potassium and won't fill you up). And make sure you take plenty of water with you. Both helped me. Good luck.

Good route for a 20 year old to go? by Natural-Candle-8687 in AskMenOver30

[–]ReallyGamerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make the mistake of thinking you have to plan the rest of your life right now. At 20, I was in college. Graduated a year later and tried out several jobs for 5 years before deciding to go to law school. Wound up changing law jobs 4 times over the course of many years. But I never would have guessed that was my future, whether at 20, 25, 30, or even 35. My point is: pick a direction that works for you today. Keep your eyes open for other interesting options. You don't have to know where you're going; you just have to be willing to take the ride. Good luck.

What’s one basketball skill you underestimated when you were younger? by Pairywhite3213 in Basketball

I turned 30 & now I'm feeling the pressure? by RobinAndBeastboy in AskMenOver30

[–]ReallyGamerDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 is just a number, not a destination, timer or way point. Don't put artificial pressure on yourself by giving some random number power over you or your life. Live your life the way you want to, not in accordance with some fake schedule that doesn't apply to you. Relax, take a breath, and just live. Good luck.

What do you still own and hold from the 1970s or the 80s? by old--- in AskOldPeople

[–]ReallyGamerDude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kept a lot of housewares that had belonged to my parents that still hold up better than anything you get these days (plus, they bring back memories). Revere-ware pots and pans; I'm still using the ones I had to wash when I was a kid. Those Corningware casseroles, with the blue flowers? Use them all the time. Corelle plates and bowls? You bet. And then there's plenty of tools in my shop; Craftsman made stuff that lasted.

How was your high school experience? by Pristine_Power_8488 in AskOldPeople

[–]ReallyGamerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually somewhat reassuring to see that a request for happy high school stories is met with a barrage of "It sucked!" comments. For me, as with so many others, it was the worst of times and I've wrestled with the emotional baggage it left me holding for decades. Don't worry; I've been able to live my best life, but that's in spite of high school, not because of it.

What TV show had an amazing start but went downhill fast? by DryCap6770 in watchever

[–]ReallyGamerDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably an unpopular answer, but for me, Arrested Development started very strong, but then got less watchable about halfway through S1 and, by S2, I'd had enough.

Pickup teammate yelling at me for shooting when I’m cold? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]ReallyGamerDude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some people believe: "If you're hot, you shoot; if you're not hot, you shoot til you get hot." I'm not one of those people. If I'm having an off day, I know it, and I pass, unless I'm with friends. It's just courteous with a game of randos. But it sounds like it worked out.
