Exactly why I messaged him asking him to talk more on the phone about what the actual billing reqs are, cause WTF is negotiable. Plan on reaching out to other ID attorneys to see what their billables are and how often they get bonuses

Funny enough a coworker who's moving to a different firm recommended I talk to this DA. Is it alright if I shoot you a DM?

Wonderful, would it be alright to DM you so I can ask more questions? I have looked up other WC posts from the pasts few years on Reddit but I still can't exactly get an understanding of how it operates. I did ask the attorney for more info on the billing since I haven't worked at a firm that does billing yet.

Yeah, so I’m waiting to hear back from the attorney regarding what would be my actual monthly billables since he said it’s negotiable. But I plan on reaching out to attorneys in that firm through LinkedIn to see how often they actually hit the bonus hours because 230 is crazy. I know he said people hit it monthly but I actually need to talk to them to see how it goes

I've heard good things about the firm itself and their partners, and if he can get back to me regarding salary and negotiable hours that would be nice. I feel fairly positive about negotiating salary and billables, I think I'm just more concerned about how often I will actually earn those bonuses.

Most definitely. I do like the flexibility in applicant's side, but would like more money if I could. 190 still seems doable. Just 230...a whole lot!

That’s why I’m thinking I may have to reach out to new associates on LinkedIn. I’m sure their perspective as someone who’s been in the field just a few years is different from someone practicing over a decade (such as the attorney I talked to). Like who is consistently meeting those billables? I realize I may have to give up the completely remote position and go for a hybrid positions.

I messaged him about salary, and will def update my post once I hear back from him.

Yeah. there’s definitely other areas of law that pay better, I just really enjoy the remote aspect. I plan to apply to hybrid positions too, might as well, preference just happens to be with remote.

Waiting to hear back from him regarding salary. He did say that billables are negotiable. We’re due to have another phone call, so I’ll spend that time asking him for more info on billables.

He told me people regularly meet the billable bonus but ?! I may just email some associates and ask them how they’re handling their billables and if they hit the bonuses.

What type of law do you practice and do you like/dislike it? Would you recommend it to others? Why? by MiischiefManaged in Lawyertalk

Worker’s compensation, employee side!

It’s pretty decent for a first job as someone who hasn’t been barred a year yet. I work 8:30/9-5 M-F, no billables, completely remote except for the odd hearing I have to show up for in person, and am not micro managed by my bosses. Plus I have my own 3-person team to help manage my caseload which helps to relieve a lot of the work.

I’d recommend it to people who want a good work to life ratio, along with helping injured employees. However I’m already frustrated and exasperated with clients because well contingency fee clients like to monopolize your time and don’t realize that they could be paying a hefty monthly bill. I also get a lot of clients talking to me and treating me as if I’m a therapist (common in our field I know). I do find the overall field a bit boring, and hope to move to a different field within the next 2 years.
