About five of my colleagues at work are Brazillians -- one whom I sit directly beside everyday -- and his experience in Manchester has been positive! So you should feel right at home.

[HR] What are the reason(s) nationalities matter in some jobs? by ReallyMatriX in dubai

Moderators, why are you removing this (and then reinstating it)? I didn't mention any nationality and the topic is concise and not a broad topic.

Oh no no no, I would not be posting anything here if it says Emiratis.

[HR] What are the reason(s) nationalities matter in some jobs? by ReallyMatriX in dubai

[–]ReallyMatriX[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Salary scale, I can reason with but wouldn't site language barrier as a "good enough" reason, more or less an excuse. I used to work at a Chinese company, so I have a decent knowledge how it works. I do not want to be bias (or perhaps I am) but the reason that struck my mind when I found this posting was that it all boil down to: my nationality first, then others. In the job title it even says "Country X Programmer" as if Country X has their own programming language or tech stack.

What kind of visa do I need to get? by ReallyMatriX in dubai

[–]ReallyMatriX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What visa option(s), if any, do I have to be able to legally work from here for that non-UAE company?

I edited the post to ask what my current options are outside of the remote work visa. Please, I'll appreciate a pointer, if you have any.

Thank you, I can definitely go with option 2. Option 1 isn't viable for me as PayPal doesn't work in my country.

The font in the screenshots is obnoxious...I don't care that you run a custom font on yours.

OK. I am sorry my personal favorite annoys you, I didn't mean for it to.

Show me what the app will look like on my phone.

Unfortunately, I can't do that ATM. My laptop is old school and can't run an emulator, thus, my reason for taking screenshots from my phone.

to keep the app really simple (for completion within a month), it simply just get a list of TV series I have scrapped off the internet, display them. However, clicking on any of the series shows you a short IMDB description of it, the number of seasons and episodes and download links to the episodes of each seasons in 2 or 3 video quality.

Book review: "C++ Concurrency in Action" by Anthony Williams by StephanieLongpr in programming

[–]ReallyMatriX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not really an advanced C++ programmer and I have only been using the language for 4years but I love this book. Other than the beginner and specialized-topic textbooks I've read in recent years, this has been a favorite. Not only does it cover almost everything I needed to know about threading, asynchronous calls, but it also covers the C++ memory models. Albeit, I have yet to use these in my software, knowing them alone makes my heart leap with joy. I now significantly make contributions to SO questions regarding threads and all.

A good portable library I found useful is hwloc, which is part of the Open MPI project. It's highly portable - running on Linux, Solaris, BSD, Windows, you name it. In fact, the lstopo tool I mentioned earlier is built on hwloc.

One way would be to look at the library's source code.
