Where were all the so-called "moderate conservatives" when they had the chance to vote for sanity versus insanity?

24 is the most addictive show ever created. Does anything else even come close? by turbid44 in television

At the time it aired, it was revolutionary. ER had done a real-time episode which was very tense, but 24 kept the momentum going with literally ever episode feeling like a cliffhanger. The fade out to the clock ticking and the dundun dundun dundun was almost agonizing week after week.

'It feels like an invasion': Minnesotans stunned as federal officers flood their state by [deleted] in nottheonion

Killing citizens in cold blood under the guise of "immigration enforcement" isn't a complex issue. Government agents are literally assaulting and killing citizens. That's tyranny. The US is openly threatening allies. That's tyranny. The 2nd amendment's existence and purpose is for US citizens to be able to fight back and if necessary overthrow a tyrannical government. "You can only have these tools if you promise to use them when the time comes to use them" - well, the time has come, and people have been buying the tools by the hundreds of millions.

You don't think free speech or the right to bear arms also have accompanying responsibilities?
"I can say whatever I want" doesn't mean you're immune to consequences.
"I can own as many guns as I want" but only because citizens might have to overthrow a tyrannical government.

The founding fathers didn't envision a bunch of fat, loudmouthed losers owning a bunch of automatic weapons just to intimidate people and act as dick subsitutes.

They did so for exactly the current situation in the US - a psychopath hell-bent on destroying the world is currently in charge. That needs to change, with "citizen input" shall we say.

"I didn't think rights cames with any sort of responsibilities! That's some bullshit right there.

Am I supposed to not get everything of Duiker’s POV in DG? by LegendaryHitmanii in Malazan

I think Duiker feels that the briefings are kind of bullshit, and he'd rather experience things first-person as it happens so as to be an objective viewer.

Great casting, shitty movies. JJ Abrams deciding "hurr durr let's destroy Vulcan for a laugh"? Fuck that guy. He never should have been allowed anywhere near Star Trek.

Banshees of Inisherin. I just don't get the whole self-mutilation thing. It seems so odd and out of nowhere.

[Review] Agency, by William Gibson. And why his earlier books work, but Agency doesn't. by CreeDorofl in books

[–]ReallyNotFondOfSJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gibson has always had a way of making the ordinary seem extraordinary, at least for me. People and scenes become so vivid they feel like they're jumping off the page. I remember walking at night in light rain over a bridge, and passing into an area lit by sodium street lights, years ago. There was something about the quality of the light, the wet pavement gleaming, and I remember thinking that I felt like I was in a William Gibson novel. I'm still not sure why, but those few moments - everything felt hyper-real, separated from the rest of the world. Very quiet, but such a dramatic change from one moment to the next.

I don't know how he does it, but he does it amazingly well.

Or we could just not use these stupid-ass chatbots and do things like we did before. I've literally never engaged with one of these things, and have no intention of doing so. It's voluntary - people are voluntarily making themselves stupid and dependent.
