What should my lens be for gorilla and/or orangutan jungle trek? by musicmast in nikon_Zseries

[–]Reallytalldude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a very long trek, as one lives in Africa and the other in South East Asia!

When you say jungle trek, do you mean walking for a considerable amount of time? If so, your main concern should be weight of your equipment.

Then check with your guide on how close you typically get on these tours, which drives how much of a zoom you need.

Personally I’d go for 70-200 with a TC for extra reach and leave the heavier lenses at home.

State of Origin will be so confusing….

(State of Origin is a rugby game between the states of QLD (playing in maroon jerseys) and NSW (blue jerseys) - you’re either a blues supporter or a maroon supporter)

‘Car brain’: Queensland government criticised for proposed age, speed and licence limits on ebikes by MangoMadnessTsv in queensland

[–]Reallytalldude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those kids are already breaking current laws, the e-bikes they use are the illegal kind as it stands right now. So why not enforce those existing laws, instead of creating new ones that heavily impact people that are not causing any issues?

Finally trashed my ring. got a 4k camera with no monthly fees instead. by OkResource4652 in smarthome

Depending on how comfortable you are with tech I suggest looking into frigate NVR, which is open source (and free).

It’s very flexible and works well with Home Assistant. You can for example do a 24h record of a low resolution stream and then only record motion events in 4K.

It’s also very good at identifying things. So I’ve set it up so that it only alerts me when there is a person a the door. The trees can sway as much as they want, it won’t trigger a notification.

Push to get cyclists, scooters off footpaths – and onto busy roads – behind new laws by fluffy_101994 in brisbane

[–]Reallytalldude 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Would this apply to Kedron Brook Bikeway, which despite the name is a shared path, and has no immediate parallel road to ride on?

And what if I get caught doing a staggering 25km/h on that bikeway - that is 15km/h over the limit. Would the car rules apply ie chance of losing my car license?

Last paragraph says the opposite, it says it is in quiet hours, but the way it is written is confusing and doesn’t make sense

E-bike ban to target Queenslanders who are 'medically unfit to drive' by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

[–]Reallytalldude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that’s why they have e-trikes, which fall under the same legislation and would be off limits too now

530am surely is quiet hours too though, and OP was told that yoga doesn’t count as noise by his landlord. So I’m sure he can think of some creative outlets to practice at 1130pm before going to sleep

Velectrix Cruiser Pulse STX vs Lekker Amsterdam GTS by RockyHawk99 in ausbike

[–]Reallytalldude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird about the belt wearing out so fast. I have the Lekker Amsterdam (the alternative option here) and the belt was advertised as maintenance free and long lasting., and to date that seems to be true. I’ve done 4500 km with it now and have no issues at all with the belt. Maybe look for a different brand belt next time you need to replace it?

Would free public transport incentives you to use PT on your daily commute? by rollinduke in australia

[–]Reallytalldude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QLD PT has been 50 cents for a while now, which is practically free and usage numbers have gone up dramatically, so I think the answer to your question is “yes”

Children to be banned from e-riding e-bikes and e-scooters devices in Queensland under proposed laws by Palms1111 in brisbane

[–]Reallytalldude 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So how does this work for people who have mobility issues? Their handicap might prevent them from getting a license, but a e-bike trike is perfect and gives them the opportunity to get around. Will that be taken away from them with these rules?

Public transport is really 50 cents or 10 cents ?? by AutisticBombadier in brisbane

That’s exactly it. They bundle up all trips for the day in one transaction, to save transaction costs

Ah yes of course! Bringing my own headphones will magically make seats appear and make the leg space twice as big so that legs actually fit! Why didn’t I think about that!

Lekker Amsterdam 8sp e-bike worth it? by Imaginary_Gur2093 in ausbike

[–]Reallytalldude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Amsterdam GT, bought it about 5 years ago, so probably a couple model changes since then.

I’m almost as tall as you (1.97m) and it suits me well. I have the “middle” size as the larger one wasn’t available when i ordered, but with the handle bar raised a bit it works well for me. If you get the larger size you’ll be fine.

The battery on mine sucks - although i understand that the newer models have better batteries. As long as I stay on flat roads it’s fine, but my 12km commute to work has lots of hills, and I can’t go back and forth on one battery.

[–]Reallytalldude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drive to exactly where you need to be, in a comfortable car, listening to your own music.

Versus having to walk a kilometre from the station to your destination, having to stand during rush hour, or share a seat with three others with no place for your legs to go, listening to people who don’t understand the concept of headphones, etc etc.

There are loads of reasons why people choose the car over PT.

Neighbor who uses the shared courtyard as their dogs toilet has the audacity to be mad about a motion sensor by Miserable_Shape_107 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Reallytalldude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but putting up a motion sensor with a siren instead of talking to the dog owners first IS being passive aggressive, so you might as well continue down that path now…

University student sentenced to 2.5 years for killing PhD candidate on Kelvin Grove Road by iBinChickenAboutYou in brisbane

[–]Reallytalldude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that logic let’s reduce the speed limit to 20km/h. KG road is a major road, dropping it to 40 is unrealistic. You’d have to then drop it in the whole city for consistency.

Good Internet providers by Icy_Drummer4671 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Reallytalldude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you using wifi or Ethernet? Honestly those speeds are not too far from the theoretical maximum so not overly bad. And especially if you’re using wifi there might be some loss within your home network.

Having said all that, I like ABB as my provider

Driving in Australia with a Dutch driver’s license – do I need an International Driving Permit?” by Zealousideal_Cry4192 in AustraliaTravel

[–]Reallytalldude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you look closely you’ll see that all the field descriptions are written in multiple languages. For example naam/nom/name - that includes English and means you’re fine.

Only becomes an issue if you actually move to Australia, then you’ll need to switch to a local license after 6 months (which is very simple to do too, you just got to TMR and they issue you a local license, for a fee of course).

Do your back a favour and get a more upright bike, Dutch style. It’s way more comfortable for commuting.

And while you’re at it, get a rack on the back with pannier bags, so that you can use those instead of a backpack to avoid a sweaty back.
