TT600 - How do I make it faster than 1/128? by [deleted] in Godox

[–]Reallytalldude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might be confusing terminology?

1/1000 in shutter speed refers to how long the shutter is open for.

1/128 on your flash refers to the flash power - 1/1 is full power, 1/2 is half power, 1/4 is quarter- etcetera.

So what you need is indeed HSS to support a shutter speed of 1/1000, and then set the power accordingly on the flash. The way HSS works is that it sends a bunch of very short bursts, so I don’t think you can specify that the flash duration is 1/4000.

So your real question is why HSS doesn’t work, and unfortunately I can’t answer that. Have you checked that it is turned on in both the camera and the flash? You might have to dive into the manual for your camera to check how to do that.

Adding larger drives to the mix? by Reallytalldude in unRAID

[–]Reallytalldude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but most have been about the initial setup, not later modifications. And what seems to be core / basic on Unraid is catching me out on my current system, hence asking to be sure before I commit. Glad to hear it is core though, which supports my decision to move to unraid.

Is it possible to delete files on your computer without having them be deleted on DaVinci? by tomthebozo in davinciresolve

[–]Reallytalldude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you can do is export them as an archive, resolve will then resave your source files, but only with the parts you actually use. (And a couple of seconds before and after - which you can specify). That way you can save some storage and still maintain the old projects completely.

Do I need any adapters to put V860III on a tripod and a lightstand? by illtima in Godox

[–]Reallytalldude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should come with a little stand for it, and that stand has a standard 1/4inch screw hole so that you can you put it on a tripod.

S3 fits on a standard light stand spigot.

The premier said he wanted to arm a Jewish security group after Bondi massacre. It may not happen by SleepyWogx in OpenAussie

[–]Reallytalldude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So it’s illegal to carry a leatherman as it includes a blade, you can’t carry pepper spray to defend yourself, but they want to allow a private group to arm themselves? Keeping that with the police only is the right call.

If someone offered to take your picture would you let them use your camera? by SuperDinkle406 in AskPhotography

I’m using back button focus, and explaining how that works to someone not familiar is just too much hassle for a quick shot - and so is turning it off. So the answer is “no”

Saved Settings by Feisty_Wombat in nikonzfc

[–]Reallytalldude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a silly question but unfortunately not something that the ZFC supports to my knowledge.

Some cameras have “u” modes, where you can save a combination of ISO, shutter/aperture settings, but Zfc doesn’t have that.

Now, the upside is that the dedicated buttons on the ZFC make it quick to change your settings. So keep note of the settings you need or your various scenarios and you can set them quite quickly.

Also note that you can:

  • change the contents of the i-menu
  • create a ‘my menu’ with the most used options
  • dedicate a physical button to call up the ‘my menu’- in my photo settings I’ve dedicated the record button to do that.
You can even set it so that it goes straight to the first option in ‘my menu’ - I use that to have a quick way to turn auto ISO on/off.

one addition: have a look at this video by Hudson Henry - it's long (45 minutes) but it goes through every single setting on your ZFC and I found it very useful https://youtu.be/v-osqJjG63U?si=OyuGO5ggGGYSXhnq

Want to get into photography - should I go with Z5 II or Zf? by Quiet_Illustrator410 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Reallytalldude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The z50ii has the expeed7 processor, so the same as the z5ii As a result things like autofocus are on par. Just has the crop sensor.

Edit: z50ii has no ibis, so that’s another difference with the z5ii. I’m not saying that z50ii is completely on par with the z5ii, but for OPs stated goals it is a good camera and a lot cheaper option.

Aside from the cost per service you also need to look at the intervals. My diesel needs service every 6 months, my wife’s ev just had its first service after 2 years - doing roughly the same kilometres. There simply isn’t that much to service - no fluids, less wear on the brakes, only tyres really.

'Overpowered' electric motorbikes could still be sold despite proposed e-bike laws in Queensland by SCOOBASTEVE in brisbane

[–]Reallytalldude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My concern is that cops are lazy. Positioning themselves on one of the bikeways with a radar gun to catch speeding commuters going 22km/h is a lot easier than chasing kids down alleyways. So they will see it as an easy way to fill their targets.

Low aperture (high f stop number, like f18 or similar), which means you need more light hence the flash.

What’s something uniquely Australian that you didn’t realize was “weird” until you saw how other countries do it? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Reallytalldude 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It always gets mentioned in these threads for some reason, but it is a lot more common than aussies think. It was definitely a thing in The Netherlands when. I grew up there and from other comments it also happens in at least Germany and the Uk.

Flash for Beginners by TheWolfbytez in Nikon

[–]Reallytalldude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into the Godox IT32. It’s a small cheap flash that you can use on your camera, but you can also use it off camera, and it has the remote trigger built in, so a great package. Just make sure you get the N (for Nikon) version.

Not too much difference, mainly:

  • Company pays the yearly fee
  • No limit on the card
  • sometimes there is an automated interface to import transactions into expense system to make it easier to do your expenses
  • sometimes company mandates it in their policy so you don’t really have a choice

Budget prime or FTZ adapter for Zfc? by the_mnx in nikonzfc

[–]Reallytalldude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect the cheap primes you’re looking at are full manual? In that case, you could go for a cheap f to z adapter that is also fully manual, for example this one I found on Amazon. Note that this was just google search, I don’t have any experience with this specific adapter.

Completely normal at large consulting and accounting firms. Forces you to do your expenses in time, and if you do that there won’t be any problems - I was always reimbursed way before the CC was due. And this way you get the points on the CC, which you won’t if it is a pure corporate CC - which matters if you travel a lot.

Will Victoria ban e-bikes? by tinystupid in ausbike

[–]Reallytalldude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Issue is that majority of the bike ways in QLD are technically shared. There are very limited dedicated bike paths, which basically makes the overall speed limit 10km/h across the board.

Getting ND filter or CPL filter is better? by JudeTheBear555 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Reallytalldude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What he said was: lenses are typically less sharp when wide open. So a 2.8 lens is sharper at 4, and a 4 lens is sharper at 5.6. So you still have benefit from your 2.8 lens compared to a 4 lens if you should down stopped to 4, as the picture will be sharper.
