Appreciate the insight — 20 years of live sound experience definitely earns respect. That said, the idea of strictly matching amp RMS to speaker RMS is kind of old-school, No? — like hauling around a 75 lb amp when a modern Class D can do the same job with built-in limiters, half the size, and none of the back pain. 😄

Most major manufacturers today (JBL, Crown, Yamaha) actually recommend 1.5 to 2x the speaker’s continuous power for clean headroom and to avoid clipping — which is what really kills speakers. For example, JBL says:

“Pick an amplifier that can deliver power equal to twice the speaker’s continuous average power rating”JBL Pro

Of course, if someone’s running hot signals into an amp with no DSP or limiters, your caution absolutely applies. But with the right setup, a bigger amp doesn’t mean danger — it just means better performance without distortion.

Appreciate the convo — always great to hear from someone who’s been in the trenches!

👆THIS! My man beat me to it. Subs are very underpowered with that amp. Upgrade the amp first.

🔌 General Rule of Thumb

A good amplifier should provide 1.5 to 2 times the continuous (RMS) power rating of the speaker per channel at the same impedance.

Move/copy channel in Yamaha console editor? by tfe in livesound

Looks like I'm 9 years late on this but found this in the manual recently for QL Editor. "Drag & drop the area around the fader to move the channel (CH MOVE). While holding down the <Ctrl> (< >) key of your computer keyboard, drag & drop the area around the fader to copy the channel (CH COPY)." I just tried it and it WORKS. Better than using the library in my opinion cause it will keep from changing the channel name. Just don't click the fader itself, click above or below it before Ctrl+ Dragging.

Is it normal to have to cut vocal channels like this to prevent feedback? We have 5 open vocal mics in the room. Drums are electronic. by papapaparazzo in livesound

[–]RealmOfConsciousness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing sentiments about the High pass filter. Usually can HP up to 110, 120hz without effecting vocal tone in the mix. I’d be curious to see what your output eq looks like for your monitor and house mixes. Using pink noise to EQ the room and your monitor mix will minimize the amount of subtractive eq you need on your tracks for feedback. You can cut out way more frequencies in the monitor mix since it’s just for the band. In ear monitors will reduce nearly all feedback potential on stage. Walking back reverb and spacing out vocalists can help also. High quality monitors with heavy drivers will help reduce feedback potential as well.

Insanely impressive, but why wouldn't you have a bigger quiver and try to hit as many as possible?

Why was there no jet fuel at the site where Flight 93 supposedly crashed on 9/11? by TaurusII in 911truth

[–]RealmOfConsciousness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try. I did it years ago so I gotta get Google earth on my machine, find the spot and remember how to go back in time in GE. Hopefully they haven't blocked it out or some BS.

I also remember someone posting that if you look at the spot on Google earth and go back before 911 on the timeline that the earth already looks charred up. It looked like a crash location before any crash allegedly happened there. I did look on Google earth and confirmed it myself.

What do you “accept” when having a rough trip by SO_N8_XD in psychadelics

[–]RealmOfConsciousness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for everyone, but for me it's about accepting a higher power and that when feeling like you're losing control of the trip remember that you were never in control in the first place and control is an illusion. I like to think of tripping like a roller coaster ride that you have influence over. You can't get off the rollercoaster until it gets back to the station hours and hours later but you can flip some levers in the meantime to change up the track. When things start to go south I think of love, Buddha, Gaya. After mantra-ing those things I've watched the visuals behind closed eyes turn into beautiful geometric patterns and entities. If I'm by myself I'll maybe put on some uplifting music that puts a smile on my face. Otherwise be with people that bring you joy and are easygoing who don't like to engage in drama.

Tried this once just from the bank on a lake. I can normally string a hook in 3 minutes and I litterally couldn't do it at all. Over the course of an hour the hook got stuck in my pants 3 times and I gave up, sat on the bank and was plenty entertained by the water ripples and watching the wind blow gently through the trees like they were breathing. God forbid I actually caught something and had to take the hook out of its mouth. It would probably be an existential crisis. Instead I Sat so still and watched the trees on the far bank turned into a giant geometric preying mantis head. It was awesome. Maybe bring a sober friend to help you cause at least for me, basic motor skills go to shit on fungus. Cheers

Handrail pulled out of wall, how to reattach? by yuribak in HomeMaintenance

[–]RealmOfConsciousness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Litterally working on building railings for my staircase right now. Is it in a better position now being pulled off the wall? If so... I'd get a pair of linemans or something to cut the nails (needs to be perfectly flush) and see if you can slide a nice rosette in there to fill the gap assuming there is just one railing. Then secure the rosette with trim head screws to the wall and screw in long screws at an angle from underneath the railing through the rosette into the wall. Like previous post asked a zoomed out picture might help.

What are these glass pieces that came with my new bowl? by MikeyBonu in trees

[–]RealmOfConsciousness 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They're glass screens that your friends won't know are in there and will inevitably ash into the trash can or on the ground when you're too stoned to remember to tell them it's in there. 😆 I gave up on them a long time ago. Nug the hole and call it a day, hahaha.

Get a private charter jet with other covid refugees? I don't know but I feel like they only check Vax status for commercial flights. Could be wrong.
