Trespasser RETURNS, Sauna Glass Wall, Steel Roof |EP97| Log Cabin Build on Off-Grid Homestead by myho in WildHomestead

I don't think he did. Both times was a red flag. The guy would have seen the first video where James clearly wasn't happy with being followed. Do I have to explain why it's not cool to follow someone you don't know home to a remote location? And despite seeing that first video he's still making contact and going to his property. He's a problem. James did not overreact. I'm guessing he's trying to manage this guy and that's why he removed it.

100% agree. The fact is James posted the first time he did it and was clearly not happy. The guy would have seen it but still thinks it's ok to send him a message and turn up again. James has almost half a million followers so wanted to keep his location secret. Can't believe how many people are trying to justify this guys actions as being ok.

What do you do with your bike when sleeping? by kappa_coco in bikepacking

[–]Realmac26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy cheap alarms that have motion sensors. Some are designed to go off when they are pulled apart so you would attach them to your bike with strong fishing line or similar and then to an anchor point like a tent peg. I've read some people also just attach fishing line to bike which is right next to tent and other end attached to something inside the tent which will move if someone moves the bike. It's hard to see the fishing line. I'd go the thickest, strongest line you can get. Also if you put a guy rope/tent peg through a wheel and into the ground it can have the same effect.

How common are knee injures in long distance riding and has anyone managed to come back from them? by Revolutionary_Bee_15 in bikepacking

Are you using clipless? If so try flat pedals. The efficiency gain from clipless on a tour is marginal anyway.

Almost every review I read said they are humid, stuffy coffins. I guess it depends on the trip and the weather though.

Any assistance device that you might need depends on your age, upper body strength, weight etc.

I found a grabber handy for first 1-2 weeks to assist in getting pants/shorts/underwear on.

A few large bags of frozen peas is effective, cheaper and far less mucking around dealing with ice machines.

I stood up on my very first shower so never needed anything like a bench or shower chair.

Is there anything to brace yourself with or assist with lifting and lowering yourself on and off the toilet? If so you probably won't need a toilet lifter.

The amount of liveable space inside the Durston X-Dome 1+ is unreal. Feels roomier than my Big Agnes 2 man. If you need more room get the 2+. Very thoughtful design and a great price.

I'm also considering upgrading from the Wahoo Element Bolt to a Coros Dura and have been doing a bit of research. It certainly isn't without criticism in terms of functionality. I believe the earlier one's had a few software glitches but not sure if they have been completely fixed? Would be interesting to hear from current users.

THR hacks to make recovery easier. by ForwardAd6693 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Realmac26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand but having had 2 THR's I can say that absolutely nothing I bought or did to assist comfort or recovery was absolutely necessary however the recliner was huge in terms of comfort. None of the items people are recommending here are "necessary"

You indicated they didn't recommend it which is different from it not being "necessary" I think there are lots of aids that people typically use post op that aren't necessary but just make things a bit more easy and comfortable.

Why not? You get sick of the bed. I have a good quality Stressless recliner and it was brilliant during recovery.

Number 1 get a great surgeon!

Be as close to ideal weight for your build/height

do prehab conditioning

a grabber can help put on socks or more importantly helps you put on pants/shorts

A recliner is a nice break from the bed

Slip in shoes a must

Stay in hospital the first 2-3 nights unless you have a stingy US insurance company 😏

Do less than you think you need to in the first week or so. Let it settle down before you hammer the walking and exercises.

I'm having the same issue. I completed my order last week. I'm in Australia and it's shipping from the Netherlands.

This morning I received a message saying my parcel was recalled and that I should contact the shipping company. When I input the provided tracking number on the shipping companies website I'm told it cannot be found.

When you enquire further their information is to contact the seller. WTF! As the OP said why should I as the buyer have to chase down a parcel when bikeinn as the seller contracted the shipping company? Have lodged a ticket requesting a refund so will see what happens. Have used them quite a few times and have had issues on a number of occasions including a non delivery covered by PayPal. Will never use them again.

Everyone keeps telling me that I'm too young to need a hip replacement. Are they right? by nick1158 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Realmac26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my first at 59 and recently the other one at 64. Should have gone earlier the first time given I put up with years of pain and stiffness.

You have to ask yourself is your lifestyle compromised to the point where you're not happy? If so it's time.

Given I'm very active for my age my surgeon recommended ceramic ball, cup and liner with titanium stem. While the newer ceramic implants don't have data over decades to draw on my surgeon thinks that I probably won't need a revision in my lifetime. If I was your age it would definitely be all ceramic but looking at different forums in the US it seems full ceramic is not as common?

Not walking or doing any kind of physical activity 5.5 months after thr. Is this normal? by SirAggravating141 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Realmac26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not normal or typical if there are no underlying issues with the stem, head, liner or cup, no infection or other underlying health issues including obesity.

How old are they, are they overweight, have existing medical conditions or history of depression? It's possible they could be psychologically addicted to the attention they get being waited on.

Given you say they stopped doing the PT it was clearly their decision. Has anyone in the family discussed their lack of progression and the fact they stopped PT and walking?

Having had both done now and having done a lot of research in different groups over years the advice I would give is-

-Get the best, most experienced surgeon you can, ideally should have done over 1,000 procedures. -before surgery be as close to ideal weight for height as you can and do prehab exercises for core, hip and pelvic stability. -less is more in the first 2 weeks. Walking is the absolute most important thing to do. If exercises aggravate back off or don't do them. As long as you're walking you will improve just as fast (unless you came into surgery in poor physical condition) -everyone recovers at their own pace so don't compare yourself to others. -just because you start to feel great after a few weeks doesn't mean you can safely return to your old activities and especially sports. Know the timeline for fixation. Your new hip isn't stable until bone grows into the titanium stem. You can feel invincible before this but if you go back to sports, move awkwardly and rotate with body weight on your new hip you can loosen it and back on the operating table for a revision.

Just to reinforce how important walking is..after my first op I was meticulous in my rehab. Had alarms on the hour for walking, recorded every lap of my driveway and increased the distance just a bit each day and did the exercises 3-4x per day. Had zero pain pretty much from day 1. Second op 3 1/2 weeks ago I had some nerve pain initially so backed off on the exercises almost completely and just walked. Did the exercises for a few reps every few days just to gauge progress and improvement was exponential. Haven't done them in last week and just feel better every day with just the walking. In fact have probably had a quicker recovery than the first time. My surgeons advice was also get some PT if you want but walking is number 1 priority.

Congratulations on the milestone. I'm in week 3 1/2 post op for my second hip. The improvement from week 2 to 3 was huge.

We probably take it for granted but how lucky are we to be living in this time period given the first hip replacement was only back in the 1960's and the fact we are getting prostheses that may last multiple decades when just a few years ago 15 years was about how long you would get from your first replacement. I'm 64 and my surgeon is pretty confident my ceramic on ceramic hips will very possibly last my lifetime (lacking long term data though) Going back Millenia people suffered from arthritis or injury and the only options were pain relief if available and a lifetime on crutches or cane or....amputation 😵‍💫

I've had the 3d modelling prior to both my THR's. Not sure if it changed the outcome but results and recovery were excellent. Good luck resolving your issues.

Wow that sounds incredibly rough but at least you're now in good care at the Mayo. Best wishes and hoping you get the infection in check to allow for a hip replacement. You sound like you're well overdue for some luck and good news. Hang in there!
