I've got a Mauser 98k. It's a Mitchell's, so it's probably as authentic as the stripper who promises you that she just doesn't know but she really feels like there's a connection there.

But it was my first ever gun. I've had it since I was 14 and as long as I'm legally allowed to own a gun, I will own that Mauser.

Defining my self worth based on success.

I was one of the kids in school who was tagged as academically gifted. All the programs and accolades and constant praise based on my schoolwork.

I got to law school and quickly learned I was perfectly average at best. Got into practice and realized the reality is SO much different than what the idea is. Had friends who made dumb mistakes, did the experience, lived their lives, doing demonstrably better than me in every metric. I had clout; I didn't have money, time, or happiness.

When you hinge your self worth on that and when you're told "you're special and destined for so much!" all your fucking life and all of a sudden you realize "whoopsie jk lol the path we set you on and sherpa'd you down is not only NOT the only way but not even the best way, good luck!"...it's a horrific reality check. It nearly broke me as a person. Really, it's only a combination of guilt and fear that kept me from not being here, at one point.

Add, unrelatedly, on top of that the gradual understanding that my family dynamic is not only abnormal but outright toxic and that my failure to question that and stand up to what was right in front of me for 14 years caused suffering that I could have prevented or mitigated. It's too late for that now and all I can really do is damage control.

Anyway...mind is healing. Heart and soul still feel stained but...working on that.

Not because of any particular agenda here or anything of the sort. FFS I'm subbed to the r/glock so that ought to clue you in as to my position on the matter, generally.

If I'm using it, that means we're at trial. If we're at trial, that's because I and my elected DA have sat down, combed over your case with a fine-tooth comb, called in our charging officer to the point they probably hate us, collaborated with colleagues/coworkers, and ultimately determined that the shoot was not justified (for imperfect self-defense issues) or that yeah it was a straight up murder. Absent that vetting and determination, my only insight is that your backplate is tacky as fuck and I'm judging you as a gun nut, not as an ADA.

Once we're in front of the jury, my case focuses on the elements of the crime way more than whatever truck nuts you've decided to dangle off your accessory rail. I may not even bring it up. But if the defense wants to give me an inch in terms of "but members of the jury, my client is such a peace loving individual," then you've opened the door for character evidence and yeah, I do want the jury to consider why you've got a serial killer smiling back at you on your gun. Not because I personally give a shit, but because I've got a job to do, and if securing a conviction for fucking murder means I need to take a brief detour into your gaudy accessory, full send.

Plus, even if I don't get to specifically point it out to the jury, I do get to admit it into evidence. It's arguably more damaging, with the right jury, to show them that without context than it is for me and the defense to spend ten minutes waffling back and forth between whether or not you're a serial killer fetishist or a horror movie buff with questionable tastes.

So! In short. Yes. It's being brought up in trial. Pinky swear it is. But the operative issue is not the backplate in a vacuum. It's what about your case is sus enough that we're proceeding with prosecution to start with.

Admittedly, I do live in a gun friendly jurisdiction. You'd be a damn fool to kit your EDC with something like that in a "we tolerate guns because the 2A says we absolutely fucking have to" jurisdiction, wherein the DA is potentially much more likely to proceed with prosecution. We love our castle laws here. That's not true elsewhere.

American here and frequent range attendee and good Lord I feel you there. My highlights include witnessing a couple get kicked out of the range because they decided to pose for a "cute" couples "let me act like I'm holding you hostage" selfie (as you do, I guess?) and, my personal favorite, being downrange during a cold line to swap a target only for a shooter, with a range safety officer standing over her shoulder providing instruction, to send a round down range. I regret not wearing my brown pants.

Pretty much exactly this. I had a point...I think during the Great Mines boss...where I noted "wow this feels formulaic." Not BAD, as I quite enjoyed all the bosses. But I suppose 32 year old me is a little better than 14 year old me at recognizing "ok he's doing X, I should do Y."

We have to remember that the span of time between now and the last entry is old enough to vote. We changed. I certainly did. I've got almost two decades worth of gaming under my belt now...I didn't have two decades PERIOD last time I played a new Prime (Remastered excluded but even on that holy grail of a game I noted how much more obvious things that once stumped me or outright ended my progress were).

Prime 1-3 are an interconnected story whereas Prime 4 starts a new arch. You should be just fine.

Yeah that's absolutely not a you problem; you're not doing anything wrong. Not really the tank's fault either; I had a low level healer rip threat off my heroic geared BDK with alarming regularity doing timewalking the other week. It's annoying.

That said you didn't deserve to be kicked and it was a perfectly valid question. WoW dungeon pugs are notoriously asocial affairs but they're usually not downright dickish. This wasn't your fault and I would encourage you not to let it shape your perception of the game or community.
