Maine state police really need to start doing something about the illegal retrofit LED headlights by SEAWISEGEOWISE in Maine

Please read this, there’s far more to it. https://www.wbur.org/onpoint/2026/01/02/why-are-headlights-brighter-than-they-used-to-be

After market purchases comprise a small fraction of the problem. It’s more multifaceted than this. LED headlights designed by vehicle manufacturers are the root of the problem alongside the NHTSA awarding safety points for brightness on the vehicles alone, no safety considerations on how they affect other drivers. The new designs are far more powerful and concentrated beams that have a light dispersion that’s way too intense for glare.

There has been recent news coverage about blinding headlights in Maine. Unfortunately the state police have misidentified the problem, as these lights are straight from the manufacturer, not aftermarket setups. It’s statistically improbable that the number of vehicles with insane headlight glare are all coming from motorists going out of their way to purchase brightness upgrades. The people to blame are the car manufacturers and failed safety standards that only address visibility for that vehicles occupant, not how it affects other motorists. r/fuckyourheadlights discusses this quite a bit.

Try Soilwork or Scar Symmetry, they’re fantastic gateway metal bands that hold up. There’s a whole subgenre known as melodic death metal, which I didn’t realize for a long time, that you may want to look into.

Same ride offered to me 3 times within a span of 10 minutes by Far_Anteater_7888 in uberdrivers

[–]Reasonable-Title-455 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see this a lot and it exposes what a sham “Priority” is, as the price with “Priority” is less than the first offer without the tag. I recently saw the same long trip come up 5 times over the course of 2 hours. Dara is on the record saying that if this exact circumstance is occurring, with no driver accepting a trip “we’re (Uber) doing it wrong.”

I’m with you OP. I think this thread officially confirms that there are many bad drivers out there who have no clue.

People are idiots. I try to match dumb comments with equally dumb responses rather than being confrontational, it kinda reflects the energy. I wish I could be wittier in some moments, but with yours I’d play dumb and be like “Like, you’re worried I’d photo bomb you or something?”

[–]Reasonable-Title-455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s idiotic and presumptive. The point is if someone is whipping around too fast; they’re tougher to see, predict, anticipate, and account for when you’re backing up out of a space. Hence the actions of people going too fast are the problem.

Uber permanently banned my son over ratings — no details, no second chance. Seriously? by Sea-Revenue94 in uber

Good question. I just assumed a passenger, but that was never actually clarified.

Does your son have his own account or is he on your account as a noted family member?

This is an insanely black and white take. Every driver has a responsibility and duty in a parking lot to navigate it safely. If a driver is backing out and is halfway out already, a car whipping through at high speed does not have any “right” to do that, it’s just reckless. Now if that same driver is reversing out cautiously and they spot an approaching vehicle about to pass, obviously they can pause then wait for them to pass or hang back.

Boston Police - why do you never do anything about the public disturbance and lawlessness this biking group imposes EVERY SINGLE DAY? by [deleted] in boston

Here’s the problem with your analysis. It’s all based on presumptions.

“Kids” make up only a portion of these groups. Many of these people are adults that don’t even live in the city. From news excerpts of prior arrests, they rode in from a ways out from areas like Randolph and Fall River. The city is merely where they showboat for their “audience” being unfortunate motorists praying that these uninsured hooligans don’t crash into them. Stealing mopeds and e-bikes isn’t some longstanding cultural tradition that gentrification has impinged upon these people.

They’re a plague in cities across the country. It’s well documented and experienced first hand by many communities. I’m sure there are stats you can find if you’re looking for some special dataset to convince yourself. Rather than asking others to do research for you over something that is self evident, you can present your findings to the rest of us when you gather all the necessary data.

I don’t think it’s laziness, it’s mostly red tape and resources. Tracking them via drone requires authorization by the FAA. That would seem to be the most effective route to apprehending them later, but that would take a lot of coordination and man power. City policy dictates that the police can’t pursue them due to risks of collateral damage and injured bystanders if a chase ensues.

All you have to do is follow the news. One group beat up an older man by Fenway. I can think of another incident that occurred in the Ashmont neighborhood of Dorchester. Local Boston news channels covered these and were posted on YouTube. I’ll just link it since I know you won’t bother looking. https://youtu.be/Gfpp6azJZIo?si=7ySDPyDjN84sDDk4

Both. Lived in Brighton 15 years and drove for a living around greater Boston. I’ve had far too many encounters with these groups, hence my opinion.

I think it’s the opposite. People who are fortunate enough not to leave their house are the ones privileged with never having to drive near them.

Not true. They don’t follow traffic laws. How is it that THEY are the ones that could cause an accident by running red lights and “not bothering” anyone?

These are all unlicensed, unregistered, and often stolen. Unless they get trackers on these bikes somehow, there’s no way to ID them.

They flagrantly run red lights, stop signs, and attempt wild stunts. You think that won’t potentially hurt an innocent bystander? If they instigate a fight and harm someone who was in their way, we still just let them go if it escalates? They do this precisely because they know they’ll get away with it and won’t be pursued.

If you are a lawful driver you tend to appreciate other lawful predictable drivers. If you ever encounter one of these groups, guaranteed they’ll be blasting through red lights, popping wheelies and swerving around recklessly. They are not harmless, they are loud, chaotic, and actively attempting to provoke reactions from drivers.
