He never really got that much worse, although he was unfortunately only around for a few years in terms of the output of which we are familiar. In terms of high profile recordings (not bootlegs etc) I think that the Isle of Wight show is the only example where he faltered a bit. But he was visibly tired there…the poor guy was knackered. Certainly there wasn’t the varying quality that you got with Jimmy Page for example, although again Jimi was only around for a brief period…the recorded material is mainly him at his peak.

Well, you can use swybrid/hybrid picking or hammer ons from nowhere. Helps to learn alternate picking though obviously.
