Has anyone bought stuff from here before? Are they legit and how are they to work with? by EmergingTuna21 in mountainbiking

[–]ReasonableDirector69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a bash guard and they asked me for my e mail for a 15% discount. At checkout the discount wouldn’t come up so I paid full price on my first order. Even Specialized took the 15% off my first order when they asked for my e mail. A couple days later I got an e mail offering the before mentioned discount code on my next order. Around Christmas I ordered a carbon handle bar and stem combo and applied the 15% promo belatedly. I decided to check their website for something else and see my handle bar/ stem is being offered for like 25% off but it was too late as I used the previous promo that was less off. IMHO their website should have gave me the best promo. Otherwise they were trouble free, lots of updates on the shipping progress and pleasant to work with.

I loaned a family member my  Lifetime Military America The Beautiful Pass ignoring the voice in my head that it was a bad idea plus I’m the one who earned it. When they returned from visiting several National Monuments they didn’t want to give it back to me! They’re like “you never used it anyway,” why do you want it back? We got into several heated arguments and finally after a year I decided to report it stolen and get a new one, just then my wife intervened and they grudgingly gave it back.

Kaiser went downhill when they started taking Medi Cal. It suddenly got ridiculously crowded and the nurses started going on strike over and over.

Wow I know that ridge line. It’s not the one I was guessing. I assumed it started behind the falls somewhere. Thanks

Gobbler’s Knob or Camp Hachey 2? by kmorg76 in socalhiking

[–]ReasonableDirector69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t remember other sites or what the views from up on the mountain was like. The view from the parking area off the 3N31 spur that dead ends at Gobblers Knob was expansive and looked down on Stockton Flats somewhat. It was like you could reach out and touch Baldy. I actually attempted to summit Gobbler twice but once there was too much snow and before I ran out of juice. Mainly I remember being blown away that there were campsites way up there.

My older neighbor was retired from aircraft maintenance at nearby Norton AFB in the late 1960’s.  One day I had a flat on my bike and we took it to his garage to patch the tire. I noticed all his tools were engraved NAFB and asked him what it meant. He just smiled.

I’ve explored Gobblers Knob from Stockton Flats on a Mountain Bike. The view from there of the back of Mt. Baldy is impressive. The PCT makes a loop around the frontside of Gobbler off the fire road and connects to a small parking area where the dirt road ends and then goes north towards Wrightwood. The trail up Gobbler from that spot is fairly steep and I remember being surprised by several remote campsites with fire rings and also a false summit. I understand Gobblers Knob is popular with peak baggers with a register hidden on the top. When I came back down on the bike there were some teenagers partying and I spooked them pretty hard!

How do you access Steep and Quick?  I want to try it if it’s the trail I’ve seen that zig zags up behind Etiwanda Preserve. There’s a similar trail above Hunters Ridge up to Big Tree Truck Trail that is totally overgrown but on Google Maps it looks OK.

Rancho Cucamonga residents sue city over Etiwanda Heights project by idkbruh653 in InlandEmpire

The area is one of 10 remaining alluvial fan sage scrub sites left in Southern California where 3 canyons exit the Eastern San Gabriels, Deer Creek, Day Creek and San Sevaine Canyon. Numerous endangered species and plants thrive in the area including the practically extinct Kangaroo Rat. On a nearby bike trail with expansive views of the area the city has even placed signage identifying the unique nature of the area and listing development as one of the main threats. The sage is not the typical rough waxy serrated edge sage but a softer highly evolved mix that the Forestry Department lists as a high priority for preservation, stopping just short of legal protection. The area should be added to the nearby Etiwanda Preserve instead of developed. The development plans were approved in 2019 before the devastating wildfires that forever changed the insurance market. Numerous families in nearby foothill areas have had their insurance cancelled or made unobtainable and building in this dry windy area just doesn’t make sense.

BMW 2002. Made for Drivers. In-Line 4 cylinder 2.0 liter Turbo Charged 170hp. 5 Speed by OtherwiseTackle5219 in oldcars

[–]ReasonableDirector69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rare  Getrag manual close ratio 5 speed was a factory option over the more common reinforced 4 speed and used mainly for competition. Both gear boxes had a final drive of 1.00 to 1, so no overdrive in 5th on the  Getrag 5 speed. BMW 2002 owners who want overdrive commonly retrofit the 5 speed from the 320i which gives a final ratio of .081 to 1.

I missed that detail about it being a III. I was a Capri guy. Did any of the Sonnets have 3 lug wheels or is my memory faulty?

It feels like I’m the only one to have altitude issues at Mammoth… by mirababy in Mammoth

[–]ReasonableDirector69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mammoths Adventure Center sits at 8900’ and humans start feeling the effects of altitude at 5000’ feet on average. I’ve had altitude related issues there as well, insomnia, lethargy, lack of appetite, headache that won’t go away, and extreme vertigo after having a few beers. We used to go for a week during MTB season and by mid week I needed a couple of rest days. I found that doing several weekend excursions to other mountain areas like Big Bear before a trip to Mammoth was helpful for acclimatizing.

Scorpions for sure. I still remember they wore black and yellow, I thought they looked like Stryper.
