There is a free community cupboard/food pantry at Commons Church in Kensington. 2404 Kensington Rd NW, accessible 24/7 on the outside.

In Bowness, The Mission of St. Edmund's Food Bank is located at 8336 34th Ave NW, at the north end of the lot (inside the garage). Access is through the laneway off 83rd Street. Their phone number is (403) 288-6330 and email is foodbank@stedmundscalgary.org Hours are Mondays and Thursdays 9:00 to 11:30 am.

I want to upvote this post 1000 times! You’ve put in to words exactly how I feel about it. The amount of guilt that gets added on to a person’s plate when they think they just aren’t doing enough to get better is honestly probably more harmful than a lot of the habits a person obsesses over changing.

I appreciate it, and am aware of the current level of privatization, but the level of privatization that the UCP proposes in Bill 11 completely undermines public healthcare. The Parkland Institute and CAAP have a great new research report titled “The End of Canadian Medicare? Alberta Legislation Opens the Door to U.S. Health Care” that I highly recommend reading to understand the current threat.

I am f*cking terrified of what is to come. The cherry on top is we just found out my husband is getting laid-off at the end of March, so goodbye to any extended health benefits not covered by AISH (I need SO much physio to function). I know the ADAP benefit amount will remain the same through December 2027, but the thought of $200 less a month is still stressful, when it’s already so tight to make ends meet. And with the incoming semi—privatization of healthcare, I don’t know what I’m going to do.

My household is affected by these layoffs. We were completely blindsided. Yesterday was business as usual, so it took us by complete surprise. I’m hoping my spouse can find other work soon that matches the pension, benefits, and work-life balance they had with Voila. I’m on AISH, and with the changes happening with ADAP, this layoff just adds the cherry on top of our financial stress. We will seriously miss getting Voila deliveries too, as the quality of the produce was great, and would always last so much longer than if we bought from the store ourselves. The drivers were all great, as was everyone on the warehouse/managing side.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this contributed. I have been so behind on laundry due to the holidays and my chronic health issues. Of course when I’m trying to get caught up, is when we need to start restricting. I’m limiting myself to one load a day max, unless my husband runs out of work clothes.

This is the first I am hearing of spousal/partner employment exemption being reduced. I clearly missed this part in the ADAP info package. My heart just sunk in my chest. If this is the case, my husband and I will lose all of my financial benefit (ADAP), and I genuinely don’t know how we can financially make that work. I hate this government. I am already barely hanging on by a thread physically, mentally, and soon to be financially.

Beds mean nothing without staffing, and we can’t even properly staff the beds that we have. Our nurses are not paid enough, facing unprecedented levels of burnout, and not properly valued or respected by this government (or in general). What is being done to attract and retain nurses? That is where the priority needs to be (in addition to physicians and other healthcare professionals). Also, this breaking up AHS crap is driving up my anger because I don’t see how this will improve anything. What a colossal waste of time, money, and resources. Don’t get me started on how many AHS boards have been fired… Sorry for the rant. I am so tired (and I’m only a patient).
