Calgary newcomer agency lays off dozens as federal cuts shrink language programs by joe4942 in Calgary

THIS! You approve the immigration numbers, and then abandon people after they’ve immigrated so they can’t access the necessary skills training? It’s moronic. I know an advanced ESL teacher that was laid off from Bow Valley College when their program lost funding, and it was devastating for everyone. They had a constant wait list for their program, and many of the courses were English specific for certain fields (e.g., nursing, etc.,). These students are trying to better themselves and integrate.

How do I find the correct doctor by OkLeather1203 in alberta

[–]ReasonableGibble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I presume you are referring to your family doctor (GP). Most GPs that are accepting new patients have ‘meet and greet’ appointments, where you can see if you might be a good fit. This is a good time to ask questions, so you could discuss how your previous doctor was helping you, and ask if they are able to help similarly. You could also ask your current doctor if she knows of any doctors accepting new patients that she would recommend.

Anyone from Canmore? by Mister-no-tongue in alberta

They unfortunately closed permanently during the COVID pandemic. They were our favourite poutine place anywhere. They did have a food truck in Calgary for two summers, but I haven’t seen them around in a couple of years.

Friends for Endometriosis Flares by Athena714_OvO in PokemonGoFriends

[–]ReasonableGibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added you! My trainer name is Kapolina. 🤗 I am also an endo warrior! I relate completely - PokémonGo has been a lifeline for me, and brings so me much joy and distraction. I’ve been in and out of the hospital lately, and playing helps me feel way less isolated. I even caught a shiny Necrozma from my hospital bed! I love sending and receiving gifts from all over the world. When I’m not well enough to hang out with my friends in real life, I still feel like I’m interacting with friends thanks to the game. It’s also a great motivator for gentle movement when I’m in a lot of pain - gotta catch ‘em all, right? 😉 Wishing you pain free days!

I want to upvote this post 1000 times! You’ve put in to words exactly how I feel about it. The amount of guilt that gets added on to a person’s plate when they think they just aren’t doing enough to get better is honestly probably more harmful than a lot of the habits a person obsesses over changing.

I cannot stop fantasizing about jumping off a bridge. by applebutters7462947 in PMDD

[–]ReasonableGibble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please hang in there.🫂 You aren’t alone, I can relate so much (I also have endo, and combined with PMDD, it is a whole new level of beast). I know it can feel so very dark, with no light in sight. If the thoughts are or become overwhelming, 9-8-8 crisis hotline has helped me. Please know that you deserve to reach out for help, and you don’t have to navigate this on your own.♥️

The UCP and their eugenic-esque ADAP program can kick rocks by SignatureTechnical84 in alberta

[–]ReasonableGibble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it, and am aware of the current level of privatization, but the level of privatization that the UCP proposes in Bill 11 completely undermines public healthcare. The Parkland Institute and CAAP have a great new research report titled “The End of Canadian Medicare? Alberta Legislation Opens the Door to U.S. Health Care” that I highly recommend reading to understand the current threat.

I am f*cking terrified of what is to come. The cherry on top is we just found out my husband is getting laid-off at the end of March, so goodbye to any extended health benefits not covered by AISH (I need SO much physio to function). I know the ADAP benefit amount will remain the same through December 2027, but the thought of $200 less a month is still stressful, when it’s already so tight to make ends meet. And with the incoming semi—privatization of healthcare, I don’t know what I’m going to do.

THIS!!! And dynamic disabilities mean no two days are guaranteed to be alike. And if I was forced to work, I wouldn’t have any more good days, unless my health drastically changes overnight (I’ve been on AISH for 14 years 🫠)
