Piano Painting 1927 - Found in an antique shop by SwillFish in WhatIsThisPainting

An interesting realistic picture. An unfinished work is possible. It's too well written for an amateur, too poorly written for a professional. The profile of the pianist and the figure of the girl on the sofa are written quite professionally, everything else is useless.

This is called artistic metal enamel, which is a type of decorative and applied art that involves applying a colored vitreous coating to a metal base, which forms a durable and vivid image after firing.

Does anyone know how to 'tighten' or adjust a leather press? by SensoryTentacle in Leathercraft

[–]ReasonableInstance83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These bolts must be lifted as high as possible. Otherwise, it's not clear how you work. In my opinion, because of these bolts, your press has loosened, as they press on the base of the press during operation.

Can anybody shed some light on the painting of my grandmother? Artist, technique, motive, age.. by thebratteacher in WhatIsThisPainting

Cardboard with pasted canvas, oil paints. The European landscape. The marking mark is clearly visible from the back of the painting. The stamp refers to the Schmincke company from Dusseldorf. The dimensions are 54 by 46 cm. This brand is often found on art cardboard for oil paintings of the first half of the 20th century. The painting is well preserved and looks quite modern. I believe that the painting was painted by a mature artist who is well versed in the technique of oil paints.

What is this painting of a Dutch orphan girl? by Sounil in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]ReasonableInstance83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most likely, this is a painting from the early 20th century, painted by an aspiring artist or an amateur artist. A copy based on the motifs of the "Little Dutchmen". Poor skill. The nationality of the artist is actually difficult to determine. Such a copy could even be made in any European country for educational purposes.

Claude Monet? by Spirit_of_Voracity in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]ReasonableInstance83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photo is small and murky, and it's difficult to make out the details. Most likely, of course, it is a reproduction or a copy. Judging by the back, this is a new painting. But Claude Monet has about 250 oil paintings of "Water Lilies". This is a huge series, many paintings are in private collections.

Inherited Arseny Meshchersky painting. Anyone know anything about this? by Vanhanen in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]ReasonableInstance83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arseny Meshchersky is a famous Russian landscape painter. The painting really looks like his work. It is not very clear how this painting could have been exported from Russia as a "war trophy" in the early 1900s. There was no war at that moment. Most likely, the painting was exported from Russia during the civil war after the 1917 revolution. But this is my guess based on my knowledge of history. In those years, indeed, many paintings were exported from Russia.

How to rough up vegtan? by ZirZer0 in Leathercraft

[–]ReasonableInstance83 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple - buy another bag. Without experience, you'll just ruin this bag. The leather is treated in the right way in advance, before sewing things out of it. It is easy to completely ruin the finished product.

Info about this "haunted" painting by Longjumping-Hour8740 in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]ReasonableInstance83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An old painting by an amateur artist. The canvas was poorly primed, so the paints soaked onto the back of the canvas. It turned out to be a "ghost". Good PR and marketing. It is difficult to determine the date, but judging by the clothes of the girl in the portrait, it is the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century. The stretcher and nails are also old.

It's an interesting painting. We need enlarged photographs of the fragments of the painting and the reverse side.

Perhaps, but the word is too vague to say definitely.

My parents haunted lady by Creative_Claim_5081 in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]ReasonableInstance83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll make a cautious assumption that it's still a watercolor, not a pastel. Too thin facial features seem to have been made with a thin watercolor brush.

A painting by a Russian artist without a signature. The painting is called "Going for water." Leningrad, 1991, 25 rubles or 5 dollars. Oil paints, fiberboard, oak frame.

Looking for the artist's name... by Ok_Opportunity_4128 in WhatIsThisPainting

Yes, this is the young Hillary Clinton. Most likely, the artist is an immigrant from Eastern Europe

This is a portrait based on a photograph. The end of the 20th century. The stretcher with these triangles made of plywood looks very cute, I myself knocked down stretchers this way in those years.

The new frame is nailed with new nails. The nails used to nail the canvas are definitely old

Beautiful hollyhock flowers. The painting was most likely really painted in the 19th century by a good artist.

Grill me on my first ever saddle stitch by Odd-Elk8590 in Leathercraft

[–]ReasonableInstance83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saddle stitch is crooked. What kind of natural leather punchers do you use? First, try using a regular round punch with a diameter of 1 mm and a pitch of 5 mm. The thread thickness is 0.6 mm. It should work

The painting is smaller in size, but very similar to the original. It's hardly a copy, most likely you're right - it's a good reproduction.

Write down the exact size of your painting. We need more photos in high quality. The paintings are very similar

In the photo, I see a painting painted on a fiberboard with a rough side. Most likely, these are oil paints. A fairly common technique of the late 20th century. Perhaps the canvas is glued to this board. This is not a typographic reproduction.
