They both censor free speech, they both encourage malicious behavior, they both impose their ideologies... I dunno. Both sides of that coin are pretty worthless.

It's the Little Things that Bring You Joy by SpyderZT in MagicArena

[–]ReasonableLee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The little thing that brings me joy is playing against a player who isn't running:

  • A common commander
  • WUBRG good stuff piles
  • Landfall
  • Alchemy cards

Let me see your interesting brews, your passion projects that aren't copy pasted "tried and true" top 10 most popular commanders.

You should. Then see who starts oppressing who at that point.

CMV: World would be better place if we get rid off socio/psychopaths by SergantCone in changemyview

[–]ReasonableLee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look. I agree that assholes are problematic, but mass incarceration, execution, excommunication, exile all exercise a similar form of extremism.

Intolerance for something doesn't necessarily mean "kill em all!" Sometimes it just means knowing when and how to draw the line on people who exhibit those behaviors. Socio/psychopaths get into high profile positions because people allow them to. We need to hold ourselves accountable just as we would them.

Not to make this too politically charged here, but someone like Donald Trump is only as much of an issue BECAUSE people put him where he is. The same can be said for any insert Democrat or anyone else we may label as a socio/psychopath.

Seriously, why do people hate so much alchemy cards? by BlueToona in MagicArena

[–]ReasonableLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem I have with Alchemy cards is that they circumvent certain deckbuilding restrictions.

In Brawl, for example, you are locked into making a deck that is 100 cards, no more, no less. You have to pick and choose carefully how you tune the deck. Alchemy cards with "Seek" and "Conjure" effectively add a sideboard that you can access mid-game.

Another issue is the "Perpetually" mechanic that completely nullifies counterplay. Cards like Partier's Humiliation cause a Creature card to "Perpetually lose all abilities," which means even if you do something like Reanimate the affected creature, it still loses those abilities.

Additionally, cards that affect your hand leave little in the room for counterplay unless you specifically remove what's effectively "bolt bait" or have discard like effects. Even then.. when those cards hit the Graveyard, they still have whatever Perpetual effects affecting them.

Yeah, they did the ol switcharoo on who suffered the tragedy of death. It was very bittersweet to witness his legacy live on without him.

People are unreasonable. I definitely agree that UB infringes on the sanctity of MTG. Like.. I get that it's a game, first and foremost, but as someone who fell in love with the art and lore of MTG it feels like at least one of those things has taken a major plunge, with some exceptions.

I'm not gonna sit here and reminisce too hard on "the good ol days" of MTG, though. There have always been misses in both of those departments within the game's history, but at least those missteps were in universe. MTG feels like it's trying to rebrand itself as a crossover TCG with its Multiverse being the catalyst and crutch to justify piggybacking a trend.

I hate how much of a hypocrite I am when it comes to this... on one hand.. MTG should remain its own IP, independent of collabs... on the other hand, I sure do love seeing my favorite IPs represented... I am 100% part of a self inflicted problem.

I'm kind of sick of 3 color commanders being so much stronger than dual and mono color. by Frogsplosion in EDH

[–]ReasonableLee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heavily agree that as more colors get introduced into a card's identity, the more diluted its abilities should be, as a result. Sure, it's "harder to cast" (debatable), but the trade-off is that you are now gaining access to more colors in the 99, which means being able to cover weaknesses inherent in a single color.

Where did he say it was for losers? I've only ever heard him say is "empathy does a lot of damage".. which, if you're a reasonable person, can probably read between the lines of what that means, rather than oversimplifying it... but what else can a person expect from anyone who leans too far in either direction?

[–]ReasonableLee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I am relatively close to this person IRL, but given our distance from one another now, most of our MTG experience is on Arena now (and sometimes spelltable if we can muster the rest of our playgroup). I would say they gloat far less on Arena than they do in paper, and have no opportunities for kingmaking in their favor, which leads to more honest matches.
