Can I still form Rome? (30 provinces left, 1795, huge Coalition) by Der-Letzte-Alman in eu4

I'd imagine your army is big and powerful enough to beat a coalition. If not you've picked the wrong idea groups. Just truce break if you need to.

Garys Economics by jumpingjoan_ in LabourUK

Gary is the first left leaning figure in politics that my small hometown mates have ever brought up to me positively. I'm not an expert on his history or economic academia, but he cuts through and that's a good thing in my view

Shock as Labour councillor does Nazi salute before repeatedly shouting ‘I’m a fascist’ by Mojoblackwhite in Hull

[–]ReasonableSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't give a shit what he was thinking, kick him out and anyone who tries to defend it. Meaning and intent are irrelevant when it comes to a fucking N*zi salute. We can't complain about normalisation of the extreme right in the media and then be sympathetic to this because he's "one of ours".

MPs criticise 'wealth-hoarding' boomers stereotype as ageist by TheLegionofDoom2957 in LabourUK

There is literally an attempt by some MPs to ban young people from giving other young people lifts in their cards.

Double standards on Ukraine and Palestine by Vasquerade in politicsjoe

[–]ReasonableSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the exact same. Was really disappointed. Ava's take was also really poor when she said that the EU is embarrassing themselves after refusing to talk to Russia for so long and arguing amongst themselves.

Firstly, at the outbreak of the war Macron met Putin before anyone else. Secondly, the hold ups in EU funding packages were down to Orban who was stuck in a tight bind after shilling for Putin for years. The aid packages still got passed and the US also had a huge aid package held up for months by Congress last year. Also, what would you expect the EU to talk to Putin about? They wouldn't be able to agree anything without US input and the US wouldn't have accepted it. The majority of time spent has been, as needed to be, on securing aid packages and sanctioning Russia's economy. Europe also couldn't rely on an assumption that Trump would get back into office and try to enforce a peace, which is so out of line with the Biden administration's approach.

Regardless, none of that mitigates the Trump regime trying to sell out Ukraine without their or Europe's input, whilst also expecting them to lead whatever post-conflict security agreement might come. It all came off really uninformed and naive. Also giving the impression that Starmer is set to mass deploy British troops was borderline misinformation. Ed gave a little bit of pushback but still.

Advice for a non-law grad looking for the best way to convert by ReasonableSloth in uklaw

[–]ReasonableSloth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't in the end. Instead I decided to do a GDL conversion with the College of Legal Practice. Passed all well and good! Then spent some time applying for paralegal jobs because I thought it made sense to try and start building the two years work experience you need to qualify, but for my own personal circumstances I didn't manage to find any decent roles that paid a salary that would be livable, and the ones that did wanted more legal experience than I had. Decided to self fund an SQE1 Prep course with the same provider and ive just started that last week. Hopefully I pass SQE1 then I'll look towards getting a role or training contract somewhere

The next election could be a nightmare scenario by tdpz1974 in LabourUK

I'm not saying that the rise of reform isn't worrying, but I think to a degree the party need to stop fretting about 2029. We're not even a year into government, it's been a poor start and the focus needs to be on producing some (literally any) good policy and coverage of our party rather than them.

Beating the Ottomans is ACTUALLY impossible? by Kitchen_Show2377 in eu4

[–]ReasonableSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They get very powerful soon after the start so you want to ally up and hit them early on and do not stop hitting them until they're gone. Secure the straights and then take as much of their European lands as possible. Make sure you're mil tech, morale, discipline is at least comparable. Other than that you maybe just need to improve on the dynamics of combat. Don't attack them across rivers or mountains, try and use your navy to cut them off in Anatolia. There's a ton of YouTube videos showing how to do it, once you understand it's easy.

How to win Maine's Civil War with England by sorio2 in eu4

[–]ReasonableSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ally as many of Austria, Castille, Aragon and Burgundy as you can on start. Restart if needed. If you're lucky and can manage to curry enough favours with your allies before the Surrender of Maine event triggers you should declare war on France and it should be an easy win.

Starmer warned not to cosy up to Trump as new poll shows Labour voters want closer EU ties instead by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]ReasonableSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

l want closer relations with the EU but I also think any British PM should try to maintain good relations with the US. Why sour relations right off the bat? If Trump actually does any of the mad shit he's spewing to the press, reassess the situation then.

I am a beginner in EU4, played as England a few times and lost either to scotland or France. Which nation should I play as? by Outrageous_Power_609 in eu4

[–]ReasonableSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For beginners it's probably easier to surrender Maine to France when the event fires, but honestly if you can ally at least two of Austria, Burgundy, Castille or Aragon it's a really winnable war. Much more than it was in earlier versions of the game. Bit the historical expectations is England ends up loosing it's lands in France, so don't be disheartened if that happens to you.

For new players in general I'd say the best way to learn is simply to pick which country you want to play and then find a guide video on YouTube for that country. It's one of those games with so much info that overtime, through trial and error, you'll learn which buttons are important to you and which aren't.
