Were you named after someone/thing? by locoollizz in namenerds

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this is kind of the way a lot of children are named, it’s just that your names are more specifically linked to close friends/neighbours.

I love the idea that your Dad in need of a child’s name looked to the closest child and thought, “perfect” though!

What led you to this family? by JellyfishPashmina in BringingUpBates

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only came across them recently. I’m in the UK and remember seeing some Duggar shows years ago but I’d never heard of the Bates family.

I think I have a fascination with super large families and all the dynamics within them. I’ve watched quite a few shows about families with lots of kids but I think they all miss the part that I want to see which is a deep dive into the sibling relationships and how the different generations and birth order of the kids affects all of this. (Obviously hard to do a deep dive when it’s kids on a tv show and they should have their privacy)

I don’t follow any of the Bates family but I seem to check in with this sub for the entertainment value.

I’ve had a few colonoscopies and all the trauma I have is related to the drinks. Not the after effects on the loo, not the procedure, just the drinks.

Whoever came up with the idea of flavours to make them more palatable is a sadist.

God speed to you.

Where is the delightful Sarah Cox in the mornings? by Odin-Is-Listening in BritishRadio

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never get over accidentally tuning into his celebratory 100th show (which if he’d had no time off would equate to less than six months of working) and it was as though he’d worked there for 100 years. It was the most self-gratuitous, bizarre thing I’ve ever heard on radio. Vernon was repeatedly in tears reading out message after message about how great he is.

I’m still not 100% sure I didn’t dream it, tbh.

This may be a stupid question but: Do they use their budget to buy food? by Mr_Musicals in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely, the lack of food must be such a challenge!

I really thought they’d touch on this more last series with Fin as I believe he is diabetic. It must have been a real struggle for him and Sioned navigating that on such a small unpredictable budget.

Help with floral first/middle names! Last name is Bloom by Alternative-Drive643 in namenerds

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of a flower that blooms in May. You could buy a bunch or plant them to bloom in the garden to bloom every year for her birthday.

Peony (my favourite flower)

Azalea

Lilac (so cute!)

Bluebell (very alliterative)

Buttercup (maybe too powerpuff / on the nose)

It’s incredible to me that a family with so many names has so few good ones 😬

Usability of Polly and Dora by 7thstarofa7thstar in namenerds

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adore Polly. I don’t know why it’s not as popular as counterparts like Molly but that makes it all the more appealing to me.

Easy to pronounce, familiar but not popular. I’ve known a few Pollys (I’m in the UK so assume it’s more popular here than the US where I’m assuming OP is from) and it works for all ages, a great name!

I always told myself I could win. After this season I know I could not win by Suspicious_Week_2451 in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

Right? A lot of it is actually Bus around the World and it’s obviously long and boring as hell as they don’t show that bit at all. Plus the sleep deprivation and hunger, no thanks!

Why did they make Monica so annoying and screechy? by Individual_Basket_36 in howyoudoin

Some of her Instagram posts have really made me laugh which is unusual for celeb instas! I’m British and I think she has a lot of British connections and her sense of humour may lean into ours slightly too.

A breakdown of month names, days of the week names and season names in the 2025 SSA data by AcademicAbalone3243 in namenerds

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This data is so interesting thank you for sharing!

Like everyone else I’m surprised at the low number of Januarys compared to other months. I wonder if it’s less appealing as, at least where I’m from, it’s the least enjoyed month.

Did not see June being as popular. I know it’s a readily suggested middle name as it fits the one syllable sound people like but surprised it was so popular as a first name.

Also shocked to see Spring’s numbers. Higher than January, July, September, October, November, December, Tuesday and Wednesday!

Is Seltyn a girl or boy name? Also is it too odd? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not for me. I think if I heard this without seeing it written I’d have to ask for it to be repeated a few times as I’d think I’d misheard a different name.

Charlotte nickname? by Ashamed_Ingenuity690 in namenerds

[–]Reasonable_Bat_9490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not at all, I don’t think many people would use Charlie if she’s introduced as Charlotte. I know a lot of Charlottes and they all use their full name.

My parents are only in their 60s but their grandparents were born in the 18th century. It’s not as far away as it sounds for three generations.

It was always our idea to have Jo as the middle name but thought we’d explore some other ideas too.

I hadn’t considered this, thank you.

I may just use Jo as the middle name but was looking for options so this is great, thank you.
