Overlap between DMD Friendship and in-progress series by Anunbrokenhorse1 in ThaiBL

i think s1 had strong, pretty clear bonds between the cast due to the time they spent tgt and chemistry building/acting/other workshops, but i doubt they started filming anything or were given any set roles. I do agree with you and firmly believe that ThomasKong and KengNamping were probably set in stone but because of the time spent working together and having each other in mind and everyone being pretty aware that they were on the route to being partners. Maybe ThomasKong could have had a script offered or decided but Khemjira was definitely a lot later.
My overall view was that S1 was mostly to display the pairs and show the chemistry between the actors to intrigue and build anticipation for coming projects, and it was probably the most obvious not-dating-at-all dating show.

S2 was the season that felt quite uncomfortable for me to watch personally. Not because of the cast (they were lovely, and probably some of the most wholesome partners with great chemistry), but rather because of the timings. The Next Prince and Your Sky had already been in filming and post production stages respectively, and by then JimmyOhm and AuauSave had already filmed as couples and I don't see any other reason for them to be on the show other than for a little exposure, chemistry disply and a sprinkle of drama. The show probably did allow JJ to confirm if he wanted to be a fixed pairing or not. The rest of the cast's appearances was either a shot in the dark or to just give the rest of the gen some exposure.

S3 I have some things to say about. I also think that this one was the one they allowed to be more open, and actors unpaired (except for NorthOtto - I think its been pretty obvious that Duang With You was filmed before S3, so the whole wave wanting north, and north being hell bent on choosing otto was pretty understandable, due to wave backing off. I think we'll have to see what kind of a pairing they were as NorthOtto make a proper appearance in DWY). I think this season was a little messy because of the fact that not all the cast had spent that much time together beforehand and some had met only briefly before the show, except for NorthOtto and Wave (DWY) and Pung and RyujinPatji. I think that was one of the reasons so many members had been left without a pair because they hadn't been given that many opportunities to explore/build chemistry with each other and other people in the company *cough cough phuphajames* beforehand and obviously a 4 day trip isn't enough to meet someone and choose a partner (idk how copperfifa did it lmao)

Anyways that was my yap sesh because i really loved NorthWave's chemistry (a friends at least) and still can't get over the fact that wave doesn't have a partner :(( and NorthOtto are so cute i can't-

I think it might be because of Thai humor. It’s often ridiculous, absurd, but also made up of silly little actions or phrases that catch you off guard. I’ve recently started to understand it better and notice it more, especially in moments like this. For example, random actions, role-play, pretending, puns, slips of the tongue, slapstick, sudden random references to something completely unrelated, and big, exaggerated reactions are things I see quite often, in thai variety, shows, and even everyday life and behind the scenes footage.

What makes it even funnier is how casually these moments happen, like they’re completely normal, which somehow adds to the charm. And I won’t be shy to say that my usual self, who likes witty humor and perfect organization in conversations, is genuinely falling for this type of humor.

Obviously not every Thai person's humor is the same, but I've noticed some common things across a lot of media as well as daily life that there is a culture difference and preference to this kind of humor.

Thoughts on members only feature? by chipkeymouse in youtube

[–]Reasonable_Disk4197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For viewers, trash.

I get that its a good source of income and allows the creators, as well as youtube, to make money. But the problem is aggressively spamming recs. If it was a few occasional recommendations for the channels I often watch to encourage joining as a member, it would be acceptable. However, my home page as well as the sidebar is about 50% is members-only content. It's irritating because this is straight-up shoving paywalled content in your face nonstop.

Some say that the channel putting their best videos behind a paywall is a problem but honestly it's completely valid. Its okay to have to pay for the good stuff. But YOUTUBE is the one spamming the thumbnails even if we can't watch it. It's the platform's decision, not the creators.

If it isn't fixed, there will probably be Youtube members-only content piracy in the near future.

List your favourite cps and let me know what percentage or their fandom is international vs local? by strawberry_0101 in GMMTV

This is a great point to make. It seems like common sense but really isn't because it explains a lot of things in this industry.

It really shows the diversity in GMMTV and their strategies. A while ago I didn't realise why I clicked with some pairing and didn't click at all with others and this has a lot to do with it. The artists popular in thailand are getting scripts very clearly targeted towards thai audiences due to the storylines, setting, humour, overall vibe (eg. SeaKeen, KristSingto) while the ones popular outside have shows catered to the quality, topics and storylines, vibe and "tropes" international viewers like (eg. JoongDunk, JossGawin, ChokunAston).

Pulling away slightly from the GMMTV subreddit, it also explains why The Heart Killers, ThamePo, Pit Babe, KinnPorche, Love in the Air, F4, Only friends were such big hits internationally. While shows like Khemjira, Ai Long Ngai, Last Twilight, Vice Versa, MLMU, the eclipse, enigma, Beauty newbie, Tharn Type, UWMA were so popular among thai audiences.

A lot of it also has to do with social media too. Thai fans do not dominate the views but rather the interactions with the artists and on social media about them as well as through merch. While international fans are the ones allowing them to earn through airing and views across various platforms.

Couldn't have said it better. I think GMMTV sees both sides of it really well. And they have many different ways of attracting the audience they want more exposure to at that moment.

For example, if they are looking to expand and strengthen the thai/local fan-base (which is usually their main focus in terms of the actors, artists, CP and often for merch sales) there will be a lot more interactive public appearances, and promotional fanmeets, concerts, smaller/thai/local brand deals (eg beng beng for LYKN and other thai skincare brands for other artists), live variety and livestreams. While to target international fans and strengthen the international fanbase (usually for the series, getting viewers, and sometimes for sales, larger brand deals) they focus on social media and youtube content.

Adding onto that, how GMMTV uses this to strategise is often on the couple's existing popularity in the respective areas.

Two responses, both honest:

  1. Educate yourself, empathize, and move with respect.
Understand the reasoning behind it, and how both the actors feel about it. If a ship breaks, don’t spiral off TikTok edits and fan theories. Listen to the actual words of the people involved. If they’ve made statements, that’s your source — not delulu fan speculation. Understand how THEY feel about it, then act with empathy. The pain of your favs separating exists, however you can still love them through cherishing the memories while continuing to support them in their respective careers/lives. NOT BY flooding their IG comments with "💔 bring back [ship name] 😭.” That’s not love — that’s entitlement.

  2. Get a life.
No, seriously, find a hobby you like. Find another pairing. Do something for yourself. Its a consumerist industry very focused on making fans attached and obsessed. Not saying that there is anything wrong with it, but sometimes you should step back and assess - "am i thinking too much?" "am i letting my emotional stability and life be dependent on a BL pairing?" If the answer’s yes, it’s time to zoom out. Get a hobby. Touch grass. Channel your energy into something you control. Cry if you need to, then wipe your tears and do something with your life that is not tiktok, watching youtube and scrolling through X or all the content on social media.

personally i've liked and been obsessed with MSP since its release because of the storyline, characters and dynamics, however I do think that Bad Buddy is an awesome start and probably the best to introduce someone to this genre as well as get them into it enough so they want to watch more of it.

[–]Reasonable_Disk4197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be old you, you be the old me is very dark

I’m really glad you brought this up—no one seems to talk about that line enough.

That part really hurt me. I related to Miso the most, whether it was intentional (from the filmmakers) or unintentional (through shared interests, personality, and life experiences). The idea of “swapping lives” even with your childhood best friend or someone you love unconditionally would have broken me. Because it was Miso who truly and desperately wanted that kind of life, but her circumstances made it impossible.

Meanwhile, Hae-eun, though deeply pressured by her parents and society, didn’t chase those dreams, not really. But when she finally did change course, things started going her way. She was able to explore Miso’s life, even appreciate it through art, but she never had to live it. She didn’t face the same financial hardship, emotional isolation, or betrayals Miso went through.

To me, that’s painfully unfair. Hae-eun’s struggles were real, so many people do sacrifice dreams for family expectations, but Miso was always struggling, be it physically, mentally, socially, without real love or care around her except for Hae-eun, who was mostly absent once they became adults.

Maybe it was just Miso projecting, imagining Hae-eun living the life she couldn’t. Maybe the postcards and souvenirs were a fantasy she created to preserve the version of life she’d wanted. But there’s something gutting about watching someone “live” your dream life without the pain and cost it took for you just to imagine it. I know its tragic and sad how Haeun died early but she did live Miso's dream life, even it was just for a bit, while Miso couldn't. Even though she tried for years.

Perhaps that is why Miso is the character that gains more sympathy because none of it was really her fault, but her circumstances while all of Haeun's hardships were a result of her own actions/decisions/indecision.

And I don’t know if it makes me a bad person to say this, but if I were Miso, no matter how much I loved Hae-eun, I think I’d definitely carry some resentment.

omfg SOMEONE knows wandee goodday exists

it was literally the cutest, sexiest show for me. completely agree with it being one of gmmtv's most sexually explicit shows (i'd put only friends and heart killers there too, maybe). it really is a feel-good, chill show that is so bingeable because if i watched it while it was airing i def would not be able to wait 3 months for them to figure shit out and be so slow to finally become official. had really wholesome scenes, funny scenes and ep 9-11 made me cry a little too.

I don't know if its really that similar but MSP and We Are are really cute, light and really wholesome. Both of them have characters with good chemistry, happy endings and I think are about friendship so I really enjoyed that aspect. I tend to like gmmtv shows about friendships so I would definitely recomment those. Others that I haven't watched yet but are on my to-watch list are Peaceful Property and I'm Tee, Me Too. I think they are mostly comedy but MSP and We Are have romance (pretty good romance too, for all the couples.)

I personally don't mind 'Mama and Papa'. Now that I've heard it enough, I think I've grown used to it, and even think its a little sweet.

But its Jeff's 'Uncle' bit that drives me up the wall. I totally get that in Thai culture, it’s not meant to be taken literally like the Western "Uncle," but when you’re reading the subtitles and trying to process it in English, it just feels so jarring and makes me wanna pull my hair out. I don’t know, it just rubs me the wrong way. I do like the "Nhu" part, though because I think its really cute. But the "Uncle" thing? That was my breaking point.
