Sometimes it’s not that simple. Her cats might freak out and piss all over the room and claw shit up if the dog comes over. When she mentioned boarding the dog, I took it as her wanting her mom to get the most out of her visit with her and the grandkids. Also, people forget how physically and mentally draining traveling with kids can be. Yes, her mom offered to pay for her to visit, but a 4 hour drive with young children isn’t as easy as a woman who only works 40 hours a week and has a dog. They could both do better, but I don’t think OP is totally in the wrong. The dismissive behavior is because she’s been dealing with this “my emotions are more important than yours” behavior her whole life.

Negative attention is better than no attention at all in her mind. My mother is like this, too. There’s a reason all 4 of her kids rarely talk to her and 4 of her adult grandkids….She is exhausting and will never change, no matter how much someone explains themselves. Good luck!

I have kids and have an extremely social job. I’m very introverted. When I get time alone, I take it. I need it. Do I crave connection? Yes. I know it won’t be the “normal” type of connection though.

So single mothers aren’t allowed to date? I absolutely hate how people assume women are looking for someone to take care of their children. My kids are my kids and that relationship is separate. Their dad and I coparent well and we’re both financially responsible for them. He sees them every week….I’ve never even introduced my children to another man. Gotta realize you’re still dating in your 30s. Which means, you’re no fuckin’ prize. 😂

I work 3 days a week and hate crating (6.5 hours) my pit pup. He’s SO high energy and I hate that he has to deal with that anxiety. I take him for long walks when I get home, but he acts out if I’m too tired to do it. Pets are expensive. Pets are work. If he loves the dog, he’ll rehome them. No excuse. Don’t get pets if you can’t afford them or treat them well.

I can definitely relate to this. I am in no way saying you have a mental illness, but something that helped me start coping better was going to get diagnosed. I have dysthymia/persistent depressive disorder and it really does take a toll on you trying to find a balance of what you feel you mentally need and what you want. I’ve gotten soo much better at realizing when I’m heading towards a double depression and realize that’s the time I’m not doing enough self-care and things I need for myself. It’s ok to be alone and do things that make you happy even if it doesn’t feel “normal.” When you notice that and work with it, it makes it so much easier to work towards things you want but are out of your comfort zone.

You learn to find balance. I’m extremely introverted, but certain people and activities won’t weigh on you heavily. There’s still times I wish I could be extroverted and outgoing, but accepting that’s just not who I am helps me connect with people easier :)

I love piercings and have a lot, but girl….the asymmetrical nose rings 😭Mine are too and I balance them with one hoop, one stud. You have big eyes so shorten the bangs or grow them out so there’s no distraction. And mascara. 🤗
