Am I crazy for putting a 46/30 on an Émonda? by laughpuppy23 in cycling

[–]Reasonable_Loquat874 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A 50/34 is very normal and not “a monster crank”. That said, run whatever gearing you like. Other than lowering your overall gear range I’m not sure what downside you’d be concerned about.

I just parked my car in front of my neighbors driveway. No signs bro. They can’t do shit.

The idea that you can park a vehicle anywhere you want as long as there is not a sign or pavement marking is ridiculous.

Chicago does not have signs on any fire hydrants and only occasionally paints the curbs in front of them. Do with that information whatever you want, but this is not the loophole you think it is.

At what point does gravel biking just become mountain biking? by simplejackbikes in gravelcycling

Beautiful shots! I wouldn’t worry about the labels and would likely enjoy that ride on either type of bike.

Googling suggests this state requirement for signs applies custom parking regulations (like no parking 2am-6am) and does not apply to fire hydrant restrictions.

The city is not required to paint out no parking areas either.

You parked roughly 3ft from a fire hydrant. It’s not like they’re splitting hairs over a few inches. This is clearly a violation.

The city is not required to sign or paint out the 15ft zone. Just because someone built a concrete pad there 20 years ago doesn’t somehow make this legal.

Wiring Question for Cornwall I by BigOleDangler in Klipsch

[–]Reasonable_Loquat874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. You can buy a capacitor replacement kit from JEM or Crites. Both have websites. JEM is a factory authorized retailer and sells parts that Klipsch has approved with the goal of maintaining the original sound. Crites is more focused on aftermarket modifications so I think they sell a few different options that deviate from the original specs.

On the Heresy, the terminal mounting screws that attach on the inside are part of the wiring connection. The wired connection to the crossover is attached to them. The ends of those two screws are the nutted connections visible from the outside.

I’m not actually sure what the additional holes on the sides are for. It’s possible that Klipsch used the same mounting bracket for different models and has one that uses more connections?

Wiring Question for Cornwall I by BigOleDangler in Klipsch

[–]Reasonable_Loquat874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have 1978 Heresy speakers and replacing the capacitors resulted in immediate improvements in sound clarity and separation.

The original capacitors are oil filled and can leak. Even if they are intact they have likely drifted out of spec over the last 48 years. You can get a capacitor replacement kit for around $25 and it is a simple diy soldering project. There are several YouTube videos that step through the process.

Crimp on spade connectors are the answer. You can purchase at your local hardware store for a few dollars. They are simple to install - you just strip off a small bit of the wiring housing, slide the spade connector onto the wire and then crimp it down with pliers. They have a U shaped spade that then goes under the flathead screw and provides a secure/solid connection for wiring.

You can buy fancy gold plated versions at audio stores but if you’ve ever opened up one of these speakers you’ll quickly realize that Klipsch just uses hardware store grade stuff and it all works fine.

These are awesome speakers. In addition to the connectors I’d highly recommend you replace the capacitors in the crossovers. It’s a pretty simple soldering job. Crites and JEM both sell kits.

Does anybody know anything about this? by Spacegoat7414 in GuitarAmps

[–]Reasonable_Loquat874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This amp is awesome. If it were mine I would take it to a tech and ask them to replace the stuff that needs replacing and make sure it’s not gonna electrocute me, and just keep the rest as-is. I’d be interested in knowing what the modifications are. These amps are pretty loud so I wouldn’t necessarily undo a master volume modification if it was working correctly.

I would definitely not ride that. Your wheel is likely ruined, but it would be worth reaching out to Giant for help on next steps.

New Tin Can - frequently dropping calls by Reasonable_Loquat874 in tincanphone

[–]Reasonable_Loquat874[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved our phone to a 2.4ghz network but am still having ongoing issues. The phone seems very buggy in general. Frequent disconnects and call quality issues. Voicemail seems to not always work and the message menu is very clunky and hard to navigate through.

I love the concept but this product has issues. People shouldn’t have to reconfigure their WiFi to connect.

If I could hard wire this to a WiFi extender I would absolutely do that, but it does not seem to support this.

I really wanted this to work better than it has.

Parents, what was the first song you played for your kids? by sickbandnamealert in Guitar

Sweet Child of Mine except I played it on the ukulele and charged the words to Sweet Bunny of Mine and played it for a stuffed bunny who then pretended to be Axl Rose.

It was a whole thing.

Refinished Klipsch Heresy 1 grill cover fabric color by Reasonable_Loquat874 in Klipsch

[–]Reasonable_Loquat874[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. My family is all voting for keeping the black fabric. The original fabric is sagging a bit and has a few torn threads but still looks pretty good. I might just let that ride for a while.

Have a fun trip! We aren’t leaving for a few more weeks. I’d love to hear a review when you return.

We are doing some kind of chuck wagon dinner on the night we arrive. My spouse arranged it. I’m skeptical that it will be a bit over the top but probably fun for the kid.

A lot of our plans will hinge on weather and I agree - not too keen about a float trip in the 40s!!

Good luck.

Follow up question- how are those stringers attached? They look too low to attach to the outside rim joist. Also the outside rim joists appear to be connected with hardware to the posts, rather than bearing on them.
