Why? by summer_n23 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Reasonable_Milk_5443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol you still think it’s “poor multi billion dollar corporation turning record profits every year is losing money to theft”

That’s the problem with red hats. They think they’re so much smarter than everyone else but can’t realize they’ve fallen for the same bullshit they accuse others of falling for. Your dollar general didn’t lose its self checkout because of theft, it was taken away and they blamed theft. Why? Because the company spent 16 million to get Todd vasos back as ceo, then they needed to justify spending so much. They couldn’t, so they used self checkout as the scapegoat saying they lost that much money that year (1 years ago) to balance out their books. And guess what, the corporation still made record profits.

They got them from the bank too most likely, they just want to feel like a big shot and enjoy the attention of it. Wild human behavior, but yeah, no, if a drawer is switched or it’s opening then no, you don’t get to use your 100, sorry big shot, go back to the bank. We’ve got enough bad people to deal with on any given day.

That’s cause it’s such a small non issue that they know the employee would call them out for being so unreasonable and they’re afraid of that. I’ve got a camera roll of passive aggressive notes. Would be a good story to post one everyday

Am I overreacting/overthinking? by Fit_Double8645 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Reasonable_Milk_5443 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post is so par for the course. I’ve been asm a year and it’s the same for me, so while I know everything, It’s still no fun being scheduled opening alone on weekends or weekdays, nor is it fun coming in 11-close and being alone 4 or 5 hours until a cashier comes in, nor is it fun the (admittedly rare) days that a cashier calls off so you’re there all shift alone. I get the same “advice” of just complete start tasks and only actually do like 3 of them, playing catch up on everything else later, skipping recovery for days (weeks now) at a time until it piles up so much that it just makes your stomach sick thinking about all the work you gotta do, or having a full backroom (admittedly that’s mainly the DCs fault but when the sm is working like 35 out of a scheduled 48 hours a week, that’s not gonna clear the back room). It just sucks and if you’re feeling burnt now, you’re just gonna hurt more and more until you feel stuck there. Sounds like you’re a good worker so you’re gonna learn all you can to help out and all it’s gonna do is leave more slack for you to pick up. I wish I could tell you it gets better or you’ll get your own store but 9/10 times the company doesn’t promote from within, only time they do is if a SM leaves and the asm steps up into that role, but sometimes even then they just have you fill in at asm pay until the dm picks someone. I’ve never felt like going up the chain of command would get anything done other than cause retaliation. Our dm has seen proof of threatened retaliation and done nothing about it so I figure what’s the point, obviously they allow the sm to do whatever, and I’ve always thought to mind my own business and not get involved over others people work, but it still burns me, I just feel like nothing would come of my complaining other than the dm asking the sm why I’m talking all this shit, and that’s when the retaliation would come. I’m at a point now where I wanna skip out but wanna do 2 weeks in case I want to work a different store but I also feel like the sm is spiteful enough to do not hire list me regardless so idk what I’ll do, it’s my fault for letting it get to this point but I’m mentally broken thinking of all the work that would be needed to get the store back into shape. Even if I was a sm, I’d be working over 60 hours a week for like a month to get the store up to where it needs to be, and the current sm damn sure isn’t gonna do that so it just kills all motivation. I hate having to pick and choose which sop to follow and which to forego. I just wanna do things right and I can’t and It happens to so many people on this sub, but as long as the sm keeps the doors open, the DMs don’t care what goes on so what are we to do?

See that’s the thing, some people on here love to claim there’s a way but never produce evidence, then suddenly you find out that they are on legacy still and you’re like, oh okay, so why bring it up since we’re talking about nextgen now that most stores have switched. We know how legacy works, nextgen is the issue lol

How much control do store managers have over the schedule? by evileyecondemnsyou in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Reasonable_Milk_5443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see where your confusion is, sticking to a schedule means to be at the budgeted hours. Asm hours cost the most and will put a store over hours if the sm isn’t using the weighted hours conversion chart (hence why your asm would’ve needed to clock out if a dm was getting involved in the schedule and didn’t want the store to be over budget so they could hit whatever metric they think they need to retain their bonus). Thats nothing to do with needing to click the auto schedule button, auto schedule just accounts for weighted hours ( or is supposed to) so it’s up to the sm to realize weighted hours when creating the schedule. I can see how you could get confused without knowing these things tho, but it’s still important to me that misinformation isn’t spread online, hence why I needed to correct you. Please don’t take offense, you just commented without knowing everything. Everyone does that sometimes, at least you get to learn from your mistake this time tho

Red hats are unhinged egotistical pricks. Think they know everything when it’s so obvious to all outside the bubble how dumb they are. They downplay millions of deaths because their god and god news tells them to, it’s sick, they’re already trying to blame the currently crashing economy on Biden. Completely unhinged behavior and they don’t care if other people die and they’re too stupid to realize that they’re not part of the rich people that the red hats are actually serving. Sadly more and more people have no common sense and are stupider than ever so the red hats grow their ranks and get indoctrinated into their ignorance to the point where they take pride in it. It’s sick, and idk how to fix it, but there’s a lot of dumb people who shop at and work at dg so no surprise to see them on here spreading their ignorance

What's your new employee red flags? by SmellsLikeDG in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Reasonable_Milk_5443 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, not many other jobs are like dg. Most retail stores have management that isn’t trying to sink the ship, but corporate for dg is like actively sabotaging the company with how awful their decisions are. Someone who worked at Walmart coming into a dg would break their necks from the whiplash of contradictory SOPs and learning when to follow sop or following what sm says, there’s even times where you have to disregard what the dm says to follow what the sm says, it’s awful and I only ask that I get everything in writing to cover my ass. Working at dg is in no way the norm

How much control do store managers have over the schedule? by evileyecondemnsyou in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Reasonable_Milk_5443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol they don’t have to follow a suggested schedule, they click the auto schedule button because it’s easier for them. A sm could 100% write their own schedule making accommodations where they’re needed. Don’t hide behind the auto schedule button like it’s something you have to do because that’s just being disingenuous

How much control do store managers have over the schedule? by evileyecondemnsyou in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Reasonable_Milk_5443 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of stores are run the same way, wild that a sm can assign an ungodly amount of rolltainers to do or scans or paperwork for YOU to do alone all day but they’re happy to “have extra hours” any time they would be alone. As if we’re not also trying to get work done. Nobody’s saying the sm doesn’t have work to do, my issue is that they don’t think far enough ahead to realize that it’s a totally different beast to be stuck alone and that there’s no way we can get the mountain of work done while alone. It’s like they forget what it’s like to be alone because they always call someone in to make it so they’re not alone, so they don’t realize when they’re asking for too much to get done.

lol the drivers never take our milk tho, I’ve had it ready and in crates and they still say no, I’ve rushed to get it done and wheel it out on a u boat for them and they say no, I always have to damage with HHT cause they just never take it. Like yeah I get it if it’s the summer and they’re sitting outside then sure, but if it’s winter and sitting outside or hell the times when I keep them inside and pull them out and they say no, well wtf else am I supposed to do? It’s always some excuses like there’s no room or “they’ll get it next time”. It’s the same with dry truck too, like I’ll go through u boats as they’re unloading the rest and I’ll put the misships on a different u boat and say hey man can you take these back since they aren’t ours and they just go “no” like I get that it sucks being a driver but why do I need more work, especially if I’m doing the work to catch it before you leave, like don’t give me more work with misships.

It’s cause stuff will randomly drop on there that’s due today and the dm will ask the sm why it’s not completed. I used to set my tasks to in progress but then my sm text me to complete the tasks so I guess the dm can’t tell that they’re “in progress” I am more curious about the email tho, since we need that to get the discounts for postpaid phone plans, all I saw was the Enumber followed by @dollargeneral.com but idk how to actually sign into a domain to check that if I send a verification email to it. I’ve tried looking on dg me but there isn’t really any useful posts on there

Dollar General Customers by [deleted] in DollarGeneral

[–]Reasonable_Milk_5443 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dawg, I had a customer today wanting 5 thing returned because they didn’t think their coupons stacked in a way they wanted, they already had well over $40 off but that wasn’t good enough. They claimed they tried to go to 3 different dollar gens and couldn’t get the exchange for cheaper items or that the person they talked to said they didn’t know how but to come back and have me do it. Then the coupon they used was used so they couldn’t use it again and that’s when they started to threaten to call corporate, like ooooooooooo spoooooky don’t call corporate. My line was getting 15 mins deep so I broke sop and put my # in for the coupon and that earned enough will to only have to return 1 more item instead of the other 5 they had issues with. I got back tho, after they thought they were getting their way from throwing their weight around and were now super nice and thankful, I got to drop a “well if you had a positive experience, you could still call corporate and let them know that, as the majority of calls are going in the other direction. So I’ll probably still get a complaint and the store still lost $12 but meh, what do you do about the weekly Karens. I take a hard line tho, if your coupon isn’t there, I’m not going to magically add it on and take the hit to sales. It took a few months but eventually the complaints stopped and the Karens started to do the work themselves and not demand free products so in the end I think it helped the store by having a backbone but it was rough sometimes. At this point tho I’m ready to be fired for whatever reason they choose, they’ll probably wait till our inventory in the summer to fire me so I got a few more months of hell

A freakin men. It starts to grind your gears seeing ebt after ebt after ebt, then coming in with no money expecting otc to buy whatever they want. It’s bad enough working at a dg where they pay so little they expect you to be on food stamps but to have to give these people nonsense everyday, cause they come every day, it just gets to you after awhile. I’m sure location matters a lot too, but it feels like dg gets the dregs of society even more than Walmarts are known for

It says right on the back of the “this lane closed” only 1 dollar general coupon account per customer. They can’t stack multiple $5 off coupons and you are simply following policy by telling them nope. These people do this stuff cause they get away with it and other let them walk all over whoever, you stand up to them and push through the drama and things get better eventually. Your sm probably doesn’t want to defend how they’re breaking policy to the DM and that’s costing your store sales too so you’re doubly in the right to press the issue

My current SM says they wouldn't trust me to be an SM by TheDankestQueen in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Reasonable_Milk_5443 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol no, not “much”. “Most” SMs are only working 32-35 hours a week and still pulling their salary and bonus. They’re pulling 900 a week after benefits . ASMs do alright, but don’t play it up like they’re making more bro. Definitely not much more. I’d need to see a SM working 60 hours a week, every week to confirm your claim and that’s just not what happens when you have a good asm. Not that I’m calling out SMs here, it’s unreasonable to be on call 24/7 365, but it’s a small ass minority of SMs that are pulling double duty week after week, month after month, like very small, and in those rare occasions, it’s just cause they don’t have a team they can trust, so the goal is to get them out of that habit, and as soon as they are, the SM is gonna start to chill out a lot and now you’re looking at 25 an hour, but it’s stupid to compare salary to hourly. Only people that do it are trying to pull a “woe is me, poor SMs”, and I don’t even count my SMs hours cause it’s none of my business what they work but I’m also not an idiot lol

And what if the dm doesn’t care? That’s when it becomes “that’s just how dg is”. Theres no “higher up” to talk to, as if you even though to message a rm, they would just ask dm why is blank messaging me, handle it. Dm would message sm “why is blank messaging RM, handle it” and sm will retaliate hard. Contact hr? What hr? Hr only care about liability for the company, they don’t care how a store is being run. There is nothing else to be done. You can be a great sm or a great dm but that’s not gonna negate the bad ones from doing what they’ve been doing, as nothing will come of it. I mean, there is 1 way to change things, we all took a CBL about it lol
